Vampire Miyu by Narumi Kakinouchi

Yeah, Yeah, Whatever.

Hecate's at it again...

There are some stories that lead to thoughts of cold fogs, of darkened chambers filled with the debris of the long dead, and the silence that has a sound. Vampire Miyu is one of these. This short (6 issues) series by Narumi Kakinouchi is the tale of Miyu, a young girl awakened to her vampire blood. Miyu has a hard time dealing with her vampirity, and finds solace in the helping of mortal girls who seek an escape from life. To say that she kills them would be wrong - she seems more to remove their spirits and set them free.
The one person that Miyu can depend on is Larva, her shinma companion. Miyu has Larva under some sort of geis that binds him to her, but he does not seem to mind. He is her sanity and stability.
While this series lacks plot, both the art and the writing are breathtaking and haunting. The pervading melancholy is not cloying or depressing. The whole story has the feel of a dream half-remembered, or perhaps not had at all.
