Sukeben Deka is the story of a girl and her Yoyo. The story of a girl and her killer Yoyo that she uses to fight crime! The heroine of the story, Saiki, a jaded high school girl who had been spending her days in solitary confinement has been forced to become a secret police agent and find out what dark workings are happening at a certain school. The school is dominated by three rich and very cruel sisters. The youngest is an aspiring artist who can do nothing but copy, the middle daughter is a drug adict and the oldest is just generally evil. All of them have no qualms about killing to get what they want. And so the adventure begins...
The story in itself sounds a little lame, I admit I almost didn't see it because it' about a girl AND HER YOYO? But in fact it was extremely well done. You may have noticed in some of our other reviews we complain that things are too short, well Sukeben Deka was but two tapes and very good. I have seen both the dubbed and the subtitled and both are well done. In the dub there are very few bad voice actors.
The animation is interesting. It reminds me a lot of the style of the woman who draws Utena with the long faces, large noses and pupiless eyes. There is a fanciful use of hair and eye coloring, which is interesting, because it was based on a live action TV show by the same name.
Over all it was very dark, but worth seeing.>
