Saotome Ranma is the reluctant betrothed of Tendou Akane, the violent 'macho chick'. His father betrothed them - his father would betroth anyone for food. When Ranma was in China he visited the Cursed Springs, and fell into the Spring of Drowned Girl. Now, when drenched in cold water, he turns into Onna-Ranma, a pretty redheaded girl with a petite body and a pigtail. Akane doesn't want to have to marry a girl. He has an enemy in the form of Hibiki Ryouga, a boy of the same age with a deep and unabiding hatred of Ranma. Ryouga only wishes to steal Akane away, but Ranma, for someone who claims he doesn't like her, is strangely reticent.
