Ranma SaotomeClick for pictures LOOKS : Ranma is very attractive in either male or female form. A sort of unrestrained attractiveness and vivaciousness in both forms. Tall and athletic, thoroughly masculine and raven haired in boy form, cute, bubbly, busty and red haired girl in female form. Can be very vain about his looks on occassion. PERSONALITY : A little rough around the edges, considering that his father did sort of take him away from normal civilisation for ten years. Probably didn’t have much interaction with other people so no wonder he’s a little rough around the edges. He can put his foot in his mouth a lot. Doesn’t really have that much of a vocablary so when he tries to say something, usually it is either taken the wrong way or people just don’t really see what he’s trying to say. He’s very afraid of showing his softer emotions to people. He has a VERY large ego and is also very honorable, protective and can be very nice at times, though, it is often either taken advantage of or taken the wrong way. CURSED : Yes. He turns from a boy into a girl with a splash of hot water. This is the subject of most of his problems. Though, this is where the name of the series comes from. INTELLIGENCE : Like before, he doesn’t really have much of a vocabulary. Though, it is sort of acceptable, considering he probably never actually attended school regularly before junior high. His father Genma isn’t really much of an example either. He sleeps a lot in class and doesn’t pay attention to the teacher. Ranma is VERY adaptable to certain situations though. If it has to do with martial arts, he would probably give it his all. If you told him he had to learn astro physics or quantum physics to defeat a certain enemy who had just beaten him, he would probably become a relative genius in the subject. Too bad he doesn’t think school is all that important. He could be very very bright if he put any effort into it. FIGHTING SKILLS : Ranma specialises in Anything Goes. Like the name suggests, it’s anything goes. It’s really a blend of different styles mashed together to forma another one. The Saotome School focuses mainly on aerial combat as can be seen in his daily sparring maches with his father. He is incredibly fast, agile and quick to think of ways to defeat an oponent. He has been taught many different attacks by both Cologne and Happosai, mostly Colonge though. He is thought of as one of the best martial artists of his generation. WEAKNESSES : He gets VERY angry if you insult his manhood. He’s extremely afraid of cats due to a certain training technique his father put him through when he was young. In order to defeat his fear, he sort of...becomes a cat, in a sense. He will start yowling and hissing and purring. He’ll also shred trees into confetti, rocks into dust, opponents into submission or put them into an unconscious, yet, very painful, state. Like most guys in the anime, Ranma cannot resist a girl crying. He’ll do anything to make her stop, which usually gets him into a lot of trouble. Quite clueless sometimes. FAMILY : Genma and Nodoka Saotome. He hadn’t seen his mother until quite a bit after he returned to Japan. Unfortunately, due to another stupid thing his father did, if his mother ever found out about his curse, he would have to commit seppuku (a form of traditional and honorful way of commiting suicide.) RIVALS : Tatewaki Kuno is obsessed with him being a socerer who had cast a spell on his beloved pig-tailed girl and Akane Tendo. He’s not much of a rival really, Ranma can beat him into paste, but he’s very annoying to have around. Ryoga Hibiki is both a rival in martial arts as well as for the affection of Akane Tendo. Ranma doesn’t hate Ryoga as Ryoga says he hates him, but he does find him annoying at times. Their rivalry has had a positive effect on him though. They both get better at martial arts in order to defeat the other. Mousse is only fighting Ranma because Shampoo loves Ranma. He figures, if he kills Ranma, Shampoo will be all his. Well, that’s sort of true. If Ranma goes, Shampoo won’t love him, but Shampoo will hunt Mousse down rather painfully. Happosai isn’t really a rival, more of an annoying human, creature, thing, it. He’s always around and getting Ranma into trouble. LOVE INTERESTS : Akane Tendo is Ranma’s first fiance. Though, she’s been very reluctant and outright violent towards the engagement. Ranma’s always going off to save her after she’s been kidnapped and stuff. He’s always very protective towards her. She and Ranma would probably get along better if he didn’t keep insulting her or if she didn’t keep taking everything the wrong way. Ukyo Kuonji, or Ucchan as Ranma calls her, is Ranma’s best friend. He had previously thought of her as a boy so, with great surprise, he finally found out ‘he’ was really a crossdressing ‘she’. He called her cute in an attempt not to get beaten into a pulp. So, now, he had Ukyo hanging off him as his ‘cute’ fiance. Shampoo is a violent, obssessive yet very devoted Amazon. After Ranma defeated her as a girl, Shampoo chased him down to Japan but when she found out ‘she’ was really a ‘he’, she gave him the kiss of marriage and became totally devoted to him. She turns into a cat and since Ranma’s afraid of cats, that a very, very bad thing. Kodachi Kuno, the sister of Tatewaki Kuno, is a psychopathic gymnast with a penchant for poison. She became obsessed with Ranma after he had saved her from falling off a roof after attacking Akane. She’s always popping up in the most akward of times. She keeps trying to kill his girl form so that’s a bit of a downer. She’s always trying to poison him too. Tatewaki Kuno is in love with Ranma’s femal form and will do anything to get near her. He ignores Ranma’s rather painful rejections and chases after her with reckless abandon, despite Ranma’s disgust and annoyance. HISTORY : Ranam was taken from his mother Nodoka by his father Genma when he was around six years old. He signed a contract with a hand print (Genma probably told him it was finger painting) which would later come back to haunt them both. Anyways, Ranma was taken on a ten year training journey which took him all over the world. Unfortunately, his father decided to teach him the Neko-Ken, or Cat-Fist. This involved throwing poor young Ranma into a pit full of starving cats while covered in fish sausage and sauce. Now, Genma didn’t really think anything was wrong so he kept doing it over and over again. Finally, Ranma snapped and went sort of insane. He started acting like a cat and pounded Genma into the ground before bouncing away. Needless to say, Genma thought it was a success. Ranma was later calmed down by a nice old lady. Ranma also met his best friend Ucchan, Ukyo Kuonji, and without him knowing, Genma engaged him to his best friend. Of course, Ranma being as clueless as he is, had always thought of Ukyo as a boy. Genma later asked if Ranma liked okonomiaki better than Ukyo. Ranma, being a little kid, said okonomiai. Genma promptly ran away with the Kuonji yattai, food cart, and left Ukyo behind. Later on, he met Ryoga at junior high. Ryoga got extremely frustrated when Ranma kept ‘stealing’ his bread from him. In other words, Ranma got the free bread before he did. Anyway, Ryoga challenged him to a match. Ranma waited patiently for three days but Ryoga never showed up to the vacant lot they were to fight in. The vacant lot behind Ryoga’s house. Ranma finally left after the third day but Ryoga showed up on the fourth day and accused Ranma of running away from their duel. A few month before they returned to Japan, Genma took Ranma to China. There, they went to Jusenkyo. There, Ranma became cursed to turn into a girl by falling into the Spring of Drowned Girl and Genma became cursed as a panda. After that, Ranma happened to come across a certain Amazon village. There, he defeated Shampoo, though her name’s really Xian Pu, and got the kiss of death. This meant, Shampoo was to hunt Ranma down until he either killed her of she killed him. After running away, they finally made it back to Japan and there starts the story. |
