Duo-Yasha: A Braided Fairy Tale

By Kaycee Ronin

I own nothing. I don’t own Gundam Wing or any of its characters, and I don’t own Inu-Yasha (the graphic novel where this idea came from) either. If you’ve read or seen Inu-Yasha, you’ll probably understand this fic better than those who haven’t. But if you want to know what Inu-Yasha’s about, email me and I’ll send the details that are important to the story. This fic also contains 1+2 shonen ai, two versions of Heero, and a half demon Duo. If ya like that kind of stuff, then go on and read the fic! ^_^ Onegai minna, send me comments!

As he ran, his bare feet flying along the moist ground of the dense forest at an unbelievable speed, Duo-Yasha knew he was in trouble. He looked down at the blue colored jewel in his hand and grunted in annoyance. All of this commotion for the stupid little pebble. The Tama no Youkai was of no use to humans, so what would that village of fools ever need it for? But if he used it…Duo-Yasha smiled to himself as he kept running. He only needed to get a little farther away; then he would be home free. “Just a little farther,” He whispered, urging himself to keep going. “Just a little farther and they won’t be able to follow me.”

“Duo-Yasha! Yame ima!”

Immediately, Duo-Yasha stopped in his tracks and spun around, his long brown braid flying over his shoulder as he did so. “O-Odin-chan?” He whispered, retreating a few steps as he recognized the voice and saw the dark haired boy running towards him with a few other men. Fear coursing through his veins, Duo-Yasha turned and ran again as fast as his feet would carry him.

“Yamero!” The voice shouted again.

“Iie!” Duo-Yasha called back over his shoulder, a mischievous smile crossing his face. “I’m already going to fast to stop Odin-chan! You’ll have to catch me!”

“If I catch you, you die!”

“I know you don’t mean that!” He stuck out his tongue at the group as he continued to run, dodging trees and fallen logs and everything else along the path with ease. Odin meant business this time, of that he was sure. Duo-Yasha had actually managed to escape with the jewel, and he had known full well that Odin would come after him to retrieve it. He clutched it tightly in his hand as he continued to run, looking over his shoulder every once in a while. He could plainly see that the group after him was gaining ground quickly. “Kuso,” He hissed as he tried to change his course.

“Yamero! Wh-what are you doing!”

“Heh…Fool, you actually think I’d give the jewel to a demon like you? Where would you ever get that idea?”

“Demo Odin-chan…”

“Shut up! I swear on my life Duo-Yasha, you won’t live to see the end of this day!”

An arrow suddenly appeared from out of nowhere, catching Duo-Yasha’s braid before embedding itself in a tree. He cried out in surprise, thrown back as the sharp object caught him. He grasped the end the arrow as he struggled to pull his precious hair free. Unable to remove the arrow from his bound hair, Duo-Yasha cut the band that held it in a braid with one claw. Again he was free, but his braid had come undone and his incredibly long hair flowed behind him, catching in the wind and slowing him down as he tried to run.

“Duo-Yasha!” Odin’s shout reached his ears only moments before an arrow struck his right side with such force he was thrown to the ground.

“I loved you…Odin-chan…how could you do this to me?” Duo-Yasha murmured to himself as he approached the village. He leapt onto a tree branch and looked over to the temple where the jewel, the Tama no Youkai, was kept. Anger filled him as he remembered Odin’s broken promise. Taking a deep breath, he jumped to the roof of the closest building and ran across it to the temple. He hesitated for a moment, then jumped through the thatched roof, landing on his bottom and directly in front of the Tama no Youkai.

Duo-Yasha froze as he heard the voices of guards nearing the temple entrance. He reached for the jewel with a shaking hand and grabbed it, clenching it tightly in one hand. He stood quickly and turned around, coming face to face with four of the village soldiers.

:: Remember what Odin did to you :: A voice in his mind shouted. :: That human turned on you, and now all the others will as well unless you destroy them ::

“I…loved him…” He felt the old familiar feeling trying to return to his betrayed heart.

:: And he tried to kill you for that. Perhaps the next time you decide to trust him you will die ::

Duo-Yasha narrowed his violet eyes in fury and ran at the four soldiers screaming. Within seconds, all of them were on the ground blood flowing from their corpses. By then the rest of the village had crowded around the entrance outside.

Panic rising in body, Duo-Yasha was unsure of what to do for a few moments. Finally he shoved his way through the crowd and leapt to the top of a small home as he neared the woods. He was almost home free. Suddenly a familiar voice called out to him.

“Duo-Yasha!”

He stopped and turned. “Odin-chan,” He murmured to himself. Odin’s voice sounded normal now. The one he used to love hearing. It wasn’t at all like the one he had heard earlier that had threatened to kill him. :: Must be a cheap human trick :: The voice told him. :: He is trying to lure you into a trap :: Duo-Yasha looked down and saw him standing nearby, staring at him in confusion.

“What are you doing?!” The dark haired boy called up to him.

Duo-Yasha clutched the jewel tightly in his hand and glared down at the one he had once loved. “You swore you’d kill me before this day is over…You broke a promise and betrayed me.”

“Nani?”

“You swore you’d kill me…” Duo-Yasha sounded more hurt than angry. “Iie. I’m the one who is going to kill you!”

With that he turned and ran.

Duo-Yasha sat up slowly, an unbearable pain growing in his side where the arrow had struck, impaled deeply in his pale skin. He knew wouldn’t be able to get away now; the pain was so great he could not even stand. His pointed ears pricked at the sound of many footsteps growing nearer. He reached one hand to remove the arrow, but lacked the strength to do so. Blood was oozing from the wound and beginning to stick to his dark clothes. He whimpered softly in pain as he heard the men closing in on him.

A shadow suddenly loomed over him and Duo-Yasha slowly raised his head, his wide eyes meeting the stern narrow ones that he knew belonged to Odin.

“You killed four guards and stole the jewel,” Odin said indifferently as he folded his arms and looked down at the injured demon. “Why?”

“Because…” Duo-Yasha’s eyes filled with tears as the memory flooded into his mind again. “You…you betrayed me. You swore you’d kill me.”

“Duo-Yasha…You know I would never--”

“But it is YOU who is going to die!” His eyes became dark with anger as his voice grew louder. “I thought you loved me but I guess I was wrong!” He raised one hand and swung at Odin, his claws dragging across the other boy’s stomach and drawing a good deal of blood. “You’re going to see how death feels from Shinigami himself you bastard!”

Odin staggered back a few steps, overcome with shock and bleeding. “I don’t…understand why you’re doing this….” He said softly as pain shot through his body. Slowly, he drew an arrow and aimed it at the longhaired demon.

“You…betrayed me…” Duo-Yasha gasped as he stood up using the little strength he had left. He pulled the bloody arrow from his side and gave Odin a deadly glare. “You tried to kill me!”

“No I didn’t!” Odin shouted back. “I would never do that!”

Duo-Yasha backed up against an old tree, continuing to glare at Odin. “You are lying damn you! I’m going to kill you before you can do the same to me!”

Without another word, both charged each other at the same time. Duo-Yasha struck again at Odin’s stomach, worsening the wound that was already there and drawing much more blood. Odin released his arrow, hitting Duo-Yasha directly in the heart and pinning him back to the tree. The jewel slipped from the demon’s hand as his back hit the tree. Odin bent down to pick it up and when he stood again, Duo-Yasha was giving him the most hateful glare he had ever seen.

“What did you do to me?” Duo-Yasha whispered hoarsely. “I…I can’t move…” He felt an overwhelming blackness creeping up on him as he glared at Odin, his eyes showing nothing but hate.

Odin gasped in pain and covered his wound with one arm. “Duo-Yasha…” He murmured softly.

He actually felt his heart stop beating. The darkness that was slowly overcoming him was winning, Duo-Yasha had his gaze fixed on the person he had thought loved him. “Bastard,” He choked, trying desperately to keep his eyes open as the strange feeling overwhelmed him. “I hope you rot in hell…I thought…you loved me.” Then the demon’s head drooped and his eyes closed.

Odin barely heard the harsh words over the dizzying agony in his stomach. He fell to his knees as he watched Duo-Yasha lose consciousness. “I’m sorry…” He whispered to the still form, beyond hearing his voice now. “This shouldn’t have happened…I do love you.”

Several guards approached Odin and helped him to stand. “Come on,” one soldier said. “We must get you back to the village and take care of this wound.”

“I…Iie…” Odin replied, as he shook himself free of the soldier’s grip. “I am not going to live.” Dark hair hanging limply over the dying light in his blue eyes, he turned to a soldier and handed him the Tama no Youkai. “Where ever I am going…” He began weakly. “This comes with me. It will cause no more trouble for this world.” The soldier nodded and stepped back with the jewel in hand.

Odin took several shaky steps forward until he and Duo-Yasha were inches away from each other. He leaned forward and kissed the demon’s cold lips lovingly. “Duo-Yasha…” He choked, smiling through his last breath. “Ai shiteru…”

No sooner had the words left his mouth than his last bit of life was gone. Odin fell to the ground, able now to be at peace with the one he loved. The Tama no Youkai was sent to the other world along with Odin’s remains.

“Where ever I am going…This comes with me.”

To Be Continued…

Okay, here are some notes so you readers out there won’t be so confused:

-- This part of the fic, as you can see, takes place in the past. We’ll get into modern times in the next part.

-- Um, bare with me, this part is kind of confusing. Odin is Heero but he’s not Heero. Heero Yuy is the modern day re-incarnation of Odin, as you will see later.

-- Duo-Yasha is Duo, but his name in the whole story is Duo-Yasha. Just making that point clear.

-- In this part of the story, Odin is 17 and Duo-Yasha is 15. Heero, who is not in this part, will be 15 as well.

-- And now for the long explanation of what the hell is going on:

In the graphic novel Inu-Yasha, the half demon Inu-Yasha steals a jewel from a temple in a village, angry with the village priestess Kikyo for “betraying” him. Kikyo goes after Inu-Yasha and pins him to a tree with an arrow where he dies.

Later, it is discovered that Kikyo didn’t betray Inu-Yasha, another demon named Naraku (not Nataku, N-A-R-A-K-U) had stolen her form and done so. Inu-Yasha never admitted his love for Kikyo, but he ends up falling in love with Kikyo’s (Odin’s) reincarnation, Kagome (Heero). That should cover it for now. ^_^
