Goku is a Sayin, one of the last of the warror race. He was sent to earth to destroy all inhabitants and to prepare it for sale by freeza. He was sent to earth as a child and was adopted my gohan. Goku ,as a young child, fell and hit his head which erased most of his sayin programming, except for the urge to fight. In the original dragon ball,Goku made some friends which he jsut ran around with in many wild adventures. Dragonball was based mainly on comedy. DragonballZ is more serious. Its probably why everyone loves anything dragonball now. Goku had to fight his brotehr Raditz. He sacrifices himself in the process, but is trained by King Kai in another dimension which increases his power level immensly. He them defeated Vegeta and Nappa, who were tryin to find the Dragonballs to wish for immortality. Picolo was defeated and the dragonballs disapeared along with him and Khami. This triggers the Namek Saga. The dragonball characters go to planet Namek to find the dragonballs to wish back their friends. Goku arrives a little while after Gohan, Krillin, and Bulma. Frieza is already on Namek searching for the dragon balls. In the end,Goku turns Super Sayin and defeats Frieza, which was the greatest animated battle ever....More to come
