The
Flower Of Life... Many
Centuries ago, a scientist of the Robotech Masters named Zor, discovered the
Flower and its unique properties while surveying that world. It was
discovered that a form of chemical "cold fusion" was used in the
Flower's natural pollinating process to release its spores from its hard
shell. Zor derived a way to contain this power by storing it under pressure
in an artificially created "cell", which offered a near infinite
supply of energy for many scientific and engineering applications. Thus was
the discovery of "Protoculture", literally translated to mean
"Zor's Science". It was this discovery that enabled the
inconceivable notions of extending life by centuries, selective Biogenetic Engineering,
and near instantaneous Interstellar Space travel by providing enough energy
for the theoretical process of "Space Folding". Realizing the
power of this discovery, the Robotech Masters conspired to rule the known
Universe. To hold their dominance, the Masters ordered their army of
genetically engineered Worriers, the Zentraedi, to defoliate the Planet
Optera of all plant life so that no other society could possess this power.
Left to starve on Optera, the Invid ruler The Regent, swore that one day he
would have his vengeance on the Masters, and spent several long generations
evolving his species for war. When that time came, the Invid delivered a
surprise attack on Zor's Battlefortress during a Protoculture 'seeding'
mission in a remote star system. With Zor and the entire crew being killed in
the attack, the ship's artificial intelligence (E.V.E.), severely
malfunctioned, and Folded the Giant Ship far into the unknown vastness of
Space. It was this ship, which was to crash on an unknown planet and be
renamed the SDF-1, and the 'secrets' that it possessed, were the secrets of
Protoculture. |
