Well, as usual, I found out about this anime by reading an article about it in my Animerica magazine. I thought it sounded cute and funny so I decided to give it a try. I bought the first 2 videos right away, but it took a few months to get the last one. Well, the plot goes something like this: A group of high school kids are in a magic club. One day an alien force invades there city. The aliens pose no threat, they just observe the humans. The military tries to fight off the aliens, but they can't. The president of the Magic User's Club decides to "fight" against the aliens (he only says this to impress the girls). So it's settled. The Magic User's Club is to spend their days figuring out ways to "fight off" the aliens. It sounds like an action packed magic movie when I describe it, huh? Well, it's far from it. It's more about high school life, love, and believing in yourself. *Oh, sounds sweet, doesn't it?* I really enjoyed this series from the first episode! It's funny, cute, happy, and it also deals with some issues like love and inner strength. I just make a list of pros and cons... The best thing about this series is the unique characters and the halarious situations. The main character Sae is naive and confused, her friend Nanaka thinks they should both drop out of the Magic User's Club, the club president Takeo is constantly trying to impress the girls and fantasises a lot, the vice president Aburatsubo is popular and loves to flirt with Takeo, and the last club member Akane hardly shows up for the club meetings because she is always out on dates. Yep, this group of students definatly makes the show great. One irrisistable point is Takeo and his fantasies about the club members. One scene can be serious when suddenly the girls start throwing off their clothes. Then Takeo is shown red faced and daydreaming as the other club members stare at him. It's very funny, you kinda have to see it to understand ^.^; Another thing I noticed that's new to me and I love it is that the ending theme song will start to play as the episode is coming to a close and characters are still talking. It ends each episode very nicely. Hmm... cons... well, uh, non really come to mind! In my opinion this series is pretty much perfect. Magic User's Club is now one of my favorite series. When I finished the OAV series I was sad that it was over, but there is also a follow up tv series that's 13 episodes long and is now being released in the US! Great news, huh? I will definatly be buying it ASAP! So to conclude, Magic User's Club is irrisistable! A must see! Reviewed by: Becky (Sat. 11/3/2001)
