The Doom Tree Aliens

Ail and Ann are aliens that come to earth to collect energy. They are the last of their species and a giant tree called the Doom Tree gives them energy on which they survive. They collect energy for the tree, because if the tree were to die, they would die also. They disguise themselves as humans and attend Usagi's middle school. They pretend to be brother and sister.

Ail

Ail enrolled himself as a 9th grader at Usagi's school under the name Seijuro Ginga. He falls in love with Usagi and tries to romance her, which doesn't quite work. He prefers attacking men for energy, because he doesn't value them as much as cute girls. Many of the girls at school have a crush on him. Ail plays a flute that awakens their energy gathering monsters (cardians) and that summons the tree to give them energy. Toward the end of the Doom Tree saga, Ail is the first to recognize positive emotions and energy from humans. He recognizes love and how beautiful it is.

Ann

Ann is an 8th grader at Usagi's school under the name Natsumi Ginga. She seems snobby and anti-social around girls, but falls in love with Mamoru and chases him around when she sees him. She gets jealous when Ail flirts with Usagi and other girls, but can talk him into having things her way. She picks the cardians they use to collect energy. She can get extremely jealous when Ail flirts with girls and doesn't make an effort to be polite to humans like Ail does. Ann is bitter and full of hatred until the end, but sacrifices herself to protect Ail from the Doom Tree. While protecting Ail, the Doom Tree stabs her and kills her. She is soon revived by the reborn Doom Tree.

The Doom Tree

Not until the end of the Ail and Ann portion of Sailor Moon R is it revealed that the Doom Tree has a consciousness and can talk. It once lived alone on a planet in space. Because it was lonely, it created human-like creatures for it to talk to. It kept the creatures alive by giving them it's own energy. The creatures soon became greedy and battled each other for the Doom Tree's energy, eventually destroying the planet. The Doom Tree escaped in time with a few survivors, but as it traveled through space looking for a new energy source, all of the creatures died except for Ail and Ann. What Ail and Ann never knew was that the Doom Tree didn't live off of any energy, but the energy created from love. In the end, the Doom Tree asks Sailor Moon to cleanse it, and it's reborn as a sprout, to be grown again by Ail and Ann's love energy.
