Ah, our beautiful miss Utena. In the movie she comes to the school dressed as a boy and has her hair cut short like a boy. Everyone thinks she is a boy until her first duel. Utena gets caught up in the duels when she tries to defend Anthy from her abusive "boyfriend" Saionji. Anthy awakens a power within Utena and she wins the duel. Utena also takes on the appearance of having a dueling uniform and gorgeous long hair every time she duels. At first she is reluctnat to accept Anthy as her own, but soon falls in love with her. She later encourages Anthy to escape with her to the "outside world".

Anthy

Our beloved Rose Bride Anthy looks quite different in the movie. She has her hair long down and doesn't wear glasses. She is no longer shy and quiet, though still gentle, along with flirty and outgoing. She seems to take an instant liking to Utena and begins to trust her with her dark secrets.

Touga

Touga seems almost the same appearence wise, but we find out that him and Utena were a couple when they were younger. He is still somewhat of a playboy, but isn't so conniving as in the series. Him and Utena were seperated by a tragedy when they were young, but now have the chance to meet up again.

Saionji

Still a handsome brute, Saionji is the keeper of the Rose Bride when the movie begins. He is very possessive of Anthy but treats her badly. Utena soon saves Anthy from him.

Juri

Juri has long flowing curls in the movie. She is still an expert fencer but girls call her "the prince". She and Miki are pretty good friends in the movie, and she even flirts with him a bit playfully. Unfortunatly, she is still tormented by her unrequited love for her friend Shiori.

Miki

Miki looks a bit more mature and handsome in the movie. He still plays the piano and has an unusually comfortable relationship with his sister Kozue.

Shiori

Shiori is still a manipulative wench in the movie. She is with Touga quite often and they are even intimate together. She seems to have loved him for a very long time and hates that Utena has won his heart. She uses Juri's love for her to manipulate her into trying to defeat Utena in a duel. She shows up in the end also, trying to interfere with Anthy and Utena's plans to escape.

Akio

Akio is the head chairman of the school and engaged to Kanae. He doesn't have such a big part in the movie because at one point someone finds him dead and buried in the rose garden. He has a shady past with his sister Anthy and shows up in the end of the movie to try to destroy Utena and Anthy's plans of making it to the outside world.

Wakaba

Wakaba is one of the first students to talk to Utena. She shows Utena around the school, but is really no more than an aquaintence to Utena.

Kozue

She is only seen briefly in a bathing scene with Miki. She is still very possessive of him and everyone else at school seems to know that.

Kanae

Akio's fiancee. She isn't seen much in the movie, except for when she is with Akio.

Nanami

She's really not in the movie... except for as a cow. She's in a short video that the Shadow Girls watch.

Dios

Still the mysterious figure and Utena's role model.

Chu Chu

Chu Chu only appears briefly in the video with Nanami. He seems to be bugging her.

The Shadow Girls

They are seen pretty often in the movie. They run the school radio show and help Utena and Anthy with their escape.

Suzuki, Yamada, & Tanaka

These 3 appear only in the video with Nanami. They are elephants.
