Champagne Taste
I was born simple and normal as one could be
Never wanting what was “best” and never wanting to be “she”
That girl who made parents swoon and teachers go berserk
I was happy to leave at school all of my homework
I have champagne tastes on a tap water budget,
Champagne tastes on a tap water budget,
The water will soon be cut off but I’m not carin’
I just spotted a well spout down the lane
My heart never fell into place in this universe
It seems they wanted me to be a vet or maybe a nurse
I dreamed of the days of marryin’ rich, having valets
‘Course they’ll never exist but I still pray
‘Cause I got champagne tastes on a tap water budget
Champagne tastes on a tap water budget
No I don’t see myself lazy
Just thinking of when someone will need me…
The moral is that I help the soul
My words comfort and make you whole
Your pains are forgotten and life’s all good
And I do it all for free
I work my fingers to the bone without asking for it
I’ll love you t’ill your dyin’ days, I swear it
I ask so little of those around me and pleasantly smile like a puppy-child
That’s why I have champagne tastes on a tap water budget
Life would so much easier without that damned budget
If heart was worth pennies I’d be in up to my eye balls…
And my life doesn’t suit me
I can’t scrapbook or quilt
Don’t ask me to cook or clean- I dare ya
You’ll do nothing but fill me with guilt
Champagne tastes on a tap water budget repeat [x3 to fade]
