Path of the Strongest

Author's note: Yeah, Part five is finally here! I guess I DID kinda take a long time for this one. But come on, you know good things come to those who wait. Or bad things, depending how you look at it...oh, well. On with the story!

Part V: Prelude to a Fight to the Finish!

"I making some fish with rice and pickles. I hope you like it," said Reiko. Tomito grinned, as he would always get excited when food was involved.

Yamcha and Krillin in unison both replied, "Sure!" Just then, the door swung open, revealing that Tyler and Kakarrotto were finally home.

Reiko looked toward the door and smiled, "Welcome home. You're just in time, I'm making dinner."

Tyler grinned, "Cool, grub time! Hey, who the f-" Reiko glared at Tyler. "Er, who the heck are these guys?"

Tomito bounced around and exclaimed happily, "They're my new friends! They're here to play with me, right guys?"

Krillin and Yamcha face faulted immediately.

Kakarrotto raised an eyebrow, "Seriously, who are you?"

Yamcha and Krillin recovered from the mother of all face faults and began to tell their story. How the saiyajins came and kidnapped women from earth, how Yamcha lost Bulma, how they got to the planet and how Krillin nearly got them both killed with his harebrained scheme.

Krillin then exclaimed, "Hey! We're alive, aren't we?!"

Kakarrotto nodded, "I see. So basically, you've come to a planet you know nothing about to rescue women who you really don't know, risking yourselves to be torn limb from limb by a race of super strong beings who have the power to destroy mountains before they reach the age of ten, right?"

Yamcha and Krillin's only reply was with wide eyes.

".............."

Tyler chuckled, "Man, you guys are either really strong, really brave, or on drugs. Or possibly one of many combinations of those.

Yamcha took a deep breath, "Let's just say we're strong enough for Earthlings. But we're not going to give up until we free the enslaved women of this planet."

Tomito raised an eyebrow, "Slaves? I never saw no slaves."

Tyler looked to his younger brother, "There's lots of things that you haven't seen...like evil spirits."

Tomito looked a little worried, "E-evil spirits?"

Tyler smirked devilishly, "Yeah, they come into little kids' dreams...and then they....BITE THEIR LITTLE HEADS OFF! MWHAHAHAHA!"

Tomito let out a loud scream and ran off to his room as Tyler began to fall to the floor, laughing hysterically.

Reiko scolded, "Tyler, what have I told you about scaring your little brother?"

Tyler sighed as his laughing died down, "Sorry, mom. You know I'm an opportunist."

Tyler flashed a grin, but she defended against it with her frown of disapproval. Tyler sighed as he new what he had to do, "Fine, I'll go apologize to him...sheesh, I was just havin' some fun..."

Tyler trailed off as he walked out of the room.

Kakarrotto sighed, "Kids. Anyway, I think you two should stay out of trouble. The king's mate already escaped and he has already tortured a man to death in a degrading manner. And also, he's completely on guard. Not to mention the fact that my son is having brutal conflict with the prince."

Yamcha commented, "Why don't you just ground him? If he's not allowed to leave the house, he can't get into trouble."

Kakarrotto rubbed his chin, "Grounding, eh? Never tried that. Reiko, what do you think? Should we ground the boy?"

As Reiko continued to cook, she replied, "Well, if you think it will keep him safe from any trouble with Prince Trunks, I'm behind you on it."

Kakarrotto nodded, "It's settled. I will ground the boy!"

Krillin asked, "Well, it might work but..."

Kakarrotto looked at Krillin, "But what, baldy?"

Krillin gave Kakarrotto a scowl, "My name is Krillin...anyway, what if he sneaks out of the house?"

Kakarrotto cracked his knuckles, "He'll be in for an even greater punishment."

Krillin sweat dropped, "I see...."

*Morning.....*

Bete's eyes opened as she was facing the window. The sun's warm glow came in through the window, reminding her that a new day had arrived. She let out a long, noisy yawn as she sat up in bed and stretched her arms.

She gazed out the window and thought, "I wonder what Tyler is doing now?"

She couldn't get her mind off him. The way he held her the other day. It felt warm, not just on the outside, but she had a warm feeling n the inside, too. She didn't want to admit it, but she had an acute case of love sickness. She stood up and began to get dressed. She had to see him and ask if he felt this warm feeling about her. She had to know for sure.

Meanwhile, at the palace, Trunks was already up and doing what saiyajin warriors did best. Training. Trunks was inside of a small room , surrounded by saibamen. 3 were laying lifeless on the ground, as 4 were preparing to attack. One flew at the might prince only to be grabbed by the throat. Trunks smiled evilly as he slowly and mercilessly began to crush the saibaman's throat, closing up it's windpipe. The saibaman gagged as it's eyes bulged and became bloodshot. Trunks squeezed a little harder and then began to loosen his grip. The saibaman gasped for breath, but before it was half way done exhaling, Trunks shot a beam down the center of the pathetic thing, splitting it in two. The two halves dropped to the floor in a pool of violet blood. The other saibamen watched with horror as each one took a step back.

Trunks smirked,"The rest of you aren't even worth my time."

He then turned his back on them. The saibamen began to let out sighs of relief. Once again, before their exhale was complete, Trunks spun around, firing a triple ki blast, each in the direction of a saibaman. 2 were nothing but victims turned to ash, the other jumped out of the way, letting the blast explode the wall behind him.

Trunks once again turned his back, "I suggest you give up. Unless you WANT to die..."

The stubborn saibaman flew at Trunks at full speed only to get his face smashed into the wall and a complementary neck snapping. Trunks tossed it's lifeless body behind him as he exited the training room.

He smirked as he continued down the palace halls, "You're next, Tyler."

Meanwhile, at the hideout of the human female preservation faction, Bulma sighed as she stared at a half empty glass of water with her head on a wooden table. Thought, it was difficult to stay comfortable while sitting on a wooden chair. She began to think, "A glass half full....."

"Hey, are you feeling all right?"

Bulma turned to the direction of the voice and saw Chi Chi standing across the room with concern written all over her face, "What's with the long face? I hope you're not loosing faith on me."

Bulma forced a smile, "No, nothing like that. I was just thinking about some things."

Chi Chi strolled over to Bulma, sat down in front of her at the table. "Well, you can tell me. Unless you feel uncomfortable with talking to me about whatever you were thinking."

Bulma shook her head, "It's nothing that I can't talk about, really. I was just thinking about how my life was on earth and how much I miss it. I lost contacted with someone I was in love with when I was taken away. I still think about him all the time. I wish...I wish I could be in his arms again. So he can tell me that everything will be okay."

A tear fell from her eye as she let out a soft sob.

Chi Chi stood up, walked around the table and put her arm around Bulma. "I know how you must feel, but that's why we fight. Everyone here has their own personal reason to keep on. You're no different from the rest of us. I'm sure the man you love wouldn't want you to be sad and gloomy. I'm also pretty sure you'll find each other someday, but you mustn't give in. You have to stay strong."

Bulma sobbed, "I don't know how much longer I can last without someone to love! All these years...all this time! I've waited...oh, God, I've waited! But, nothing! All the abuse I've suffered! For what? I'm still alone. I don't want to give up, but it seems like the only sensible thing to do! I wish...I wish I was-!"

Chi Chi said firmly, "Stop it! Don't say it, Bulma. I know you don't mean it. You have to keep yourself together. You're the only one who can decide if all is lost or not. You can't let yourself loose now, or it really will be all for nothing."

Bulma turned around and stood up from her chair. Her watery eyes met Chi Chi's right before they embraced each other in a hug of comfort. Bulma sobbed onto Chi Chi's shoulder as Chi Chi comforted her affectionately, "Bulma, everything will be okay. Just hang in there."

"Say WHAT?" Yamcha's eyes grew wide at Kakarrotto's words.

Kakarrotto nodded, "That's right. The woman you call Bulma is free from the king and in hiding currently. From what she's told me, you've been on her mind all these years."

Krillin patted Yamcha on the back, "See? Everything worked out for the best."

Yamcha suddenly had a big, excited, and dopey grin on his face, "Where's she at?! Tell me! Where? Where?!"

Kakarrotto raised an eyebrow, "Calm down, you. I'll set you two up, don't worry about it. Just relax for now."

Reiko stepped into the room and overheard the conversation, "How exciting this must be fore you, Yamcha. You're finally going to be reunited with your lover. It sounds very romantic."

Yamcha kept his grin, "I feel warm and tingly all over!"

Krillin sweat dropped, "Yeah? That insane grin you're making makes me feel sick."

The morning had gone by quickly. Bete spent it flying around the sky, thinking about what exactly she should say to Tyler. These days, he was on her mind constantly.

As Bete flew through the sky, she thought to herself, "What could've happen to him that would make him forget everything? He hardly remembered me at first....and he also forgot about HER."

*Flashback*

Bete continued to look into the sky, "Do you remember a lady with long, black hair who wore a kimono and used a katana?"  Tyler replied, "No, why?"

Bete sighed deeply, "No reason."

*End of Flasback*

"How did he forget?  I wonder who would know the answer to that question," wondered Bete out loud. As she continued to soar through the skies, the smile on her face only grew wider as she thought about Tyler. She was definitely in love. She just had to find out if Tyler felt the same way that she did.

Suddenly, she heard a voice, "You're out pretty early. Where are you going?"

Bete cringed as she stopped in mid-air. She knew that voice. Bete slowly turned around to see that Trunks was floating right before her, with two of his lackeys. "Cabag, Calflur, restrain her."

The two complied quickly and warped behind her, each grabbing on of her arms. Trunks smirked as he slowly floated closer to her. "I gave you time to think about what I told you the other day. So, I'll be gracious and give you the choice of willingly becoming my mate."

Bete turned away, "No way! I'd tongue kiss a lizard before I'd consider mating with you!"

Bete reinforced her words by spitting in Trunks' eye. Trunks growled as he wiped her saliva from his eyes, "You little bitch!"

Suddenly, she kicked Cabag in the groin, causing him to let go. She then used the weight of Calflur's grip on her other arm to swing around with a spin kick to the back o his head. Both guys fell down the the surface below. Now it was juts her and Trunks facing off.

Trunks smirked at Bete deviously, "Do you want to fight me, woman?"

Bete nodded, "That's right. I'm not afraid of you!"

Trunks narrowed his eyes, "Then I'll have to show you why you should be."

As he stepped closer, he noted the rising of her ki. It seemed like it increased with every step he took toward her. Trunks could only smirk, knowing that although her power level may be rising, she was still no match for him. Trunks wasn't planning to hurt her much, though. He was too infatuated with her beauty to do anything to damage it. The only real reason he wanted to fighter her was to show her that he was stronger and the perfect mate for her. Also, her will and determination to fight made him want her even more. She was just so aggressive and spunky.

As Trunks came closer to her, Bete's fist tightened and shook with anger. He dared to use his rank to try and force her to be with him. She knew that she couldn't beat a super saiyajin. But, she also knew that as long as he didn't transform, she would have a chance at beating him. She no longer feared how much punishment she would have to take. She didn't care anymore. Before she realized it, Trunks was standing before her.

His smirk had grown into a full grin. A sinister grin. A lecherous grin, even. She took a step back from him, bracing herself to attack. Trunks merely took another step forward to maintain the short distance between them. Bete's right eye flashed with a small, cyan glint, right before launching a punch a Trunks at a speed that could almost match the speed of light, of even the gods.

To his surprise, Trunks found himself doubled over from the punch delivered by the saiyajin girl. She may not have been at his level, but she proved herself to be anything but a pushover. Bete returned to her stance, ever ready to give her all or go down fighting. A small smile grew on Bete's face as soon as she saw Trunks' facial expression after she attacked him.

Upon his recovery, Trunks gritted his teeth in anger as he managed to stand straight once more. His eyes narrowed at Bete, staring daggers directly at her. Bete could feel the coldness of his stare. As the chill traveled through Bete's spine, Trunks' power aura flared up greatly. Trunks charged the female saiyajin like a rabid beast, ramming into her with a raging flurry of punches. Bete blocked her body with her crossed forearms as she was being forced downward and back into the wall of a cave. Trunks continued his onslaught until the dent being made in the cave wall became a hole in which Bete was knocked through. Bete's cry of pain was let out sharply upon her rough landing, inside of the cave.

Trunks' eyes widened when he her Bete's pain stricken cry. He wondered if she was all right. He felt guilty for the first time of his life. He never felt this way about anything before. He shook away the thoughts of concern and straightened up his face. His lackeys returned to him after being assaulted by Bete. They all shouted declarations of victory as Trunks looked down at the cave, waiting for Bete to come out. She didn't.

Trunks looked to his henchmen and nodded, "Let's go. This fight is over." Trunks flew off with his two followers.

Inside the cave, we see Bete leaning tactfully against the wall, near the mouth of the cave. "Damn it. How can I fight a guy who goes crazy after being hit only once?" She reviewed the fight in her mind repeatedly. She couldn't figure out how to get through Trunks' wild attacks without taking any damage herself. She sighed and shook her head.

With a slight smile, she said to herself, "One day."

--------------------------------------------

Meanwhile, King Vegeta paced about the throne room. He was fuming and irritated. His mate had escaped without a trace and his son was getting defeated by a third class warrior. Not to mention two good soldiers were killed by Earthlings who stole a fleet ship and is now somewhere on his planet. He contemplated on how to handle all of these matters. He began to devise a plan on how to draw out the human scum who currently invaded Planet Vegeta. A cruel and menacing smile grew upon his face. He immediately called in his assistant, Nappa, to begin the first phase of his plan. The end of those retched humans was drawing near.....

--------------------------------------------

"One day what?"

Bete spun around in slight fear to see Akira standing casually behind her. He was wearing a blue, denim jacket, matching jeans and a black shirt with the japanese symbol for "bad" on the front. He didn't seem have a facial expression of menace or threat. He was simply staring at her curiously. Bete hesitated to answer. He was one of Trunks' buddies. That made him her enemy, thus she believed that she shouldn't have to talk to him.

Akira raised an eyebrow at her, then chuckled. He shook his head and smiled, "What? You act like I'm gonna try to eat you or something."

Bete spat, "I have nothing to say to you OR your leader! You, Trunks and the rest of those morons can burn in he-!"

Akira interjected, "Whoa, whoa! Slow down! Just so you'll know, I don't hang with them anymore. I'm a solo act now. You can say that we had our differences."

Bete folded her arms and turned her back on him, "Yeah, sure. They just happened to show up here and you just happen to be inside of a nearby cave. How stupid do you think I am?!"

Akira sighed, "You're pretty paranoid. Besides, I bet you can't even recall a time that I've actually done anything to you."

Bete sneered, "Like that even matters! You're just saying that to gain my trust and probably plan an ambush or something."

Akira sighed again, "Yeah, sure. Anyway, I don't care if you trust me or not. I'm just saying that I don't hang with those royal ass wipes anymore, okay?"

Bete walked outside of the cave, then looked back at Akira,"Whatever you say, Akira."

She then looked forward again and took off into the air.

Akira watched as she flew off and said to himself, "Stubborn as hell....."

-------------------------------------------------

The day went by with little important events. Bete didn't work up the courage to ask about his feelings about her, but it didn't matter since his father explained that he was grounded. Bete sighed and saw no choice but to save it for another time. It was now evening and everyone was in their homes, preparing for the next day. In some cases, preparing for the rest of the night.

Yamcha grinned at Krillin, "Hey, Krillin. Do you think she'll care if I'm dressed in my fighting gi?"

Krillin sighed, "For the 50th time, NO! It's like that Nike commercial, Just shut up and do it!"

Yamcha sweat dropped, "Um, isn't the phrase 'just do it'?"

Krillin shrugged, "Yeah, but I changed it just for you."

Yamcha frowned, "Krillin, you can be a real jerk sometimes....."

Both earthling warriors were interrupted by the sound of sibling rivalry. Tyler and Tomito came into the room inside of a violent cloud of dust, threatening to mow down the innocently bystanding Krillin and Yamcha. They both made a dive in separate directions, gaining way to the brawling brothers. As the dust cleared, they saw that Tyler had Tomito in a sleeper hold as Tomito was biting down on his forearm. Both shouted out in their own agony as the other refused to let up. Yamcha nd Krillin both sweat dropped at this sight and decided that leaving this room would be the wisest thing to do.

Upon exiting the room, they both were approached by Kakarrotto who had a grand smile on his face. Krillin raised an eyebrow, "What's got you so chipper?" Krillin then smiled at him slyly, "Quality time with the wife?"

Kakarrotto gave Krillin the 'How-the-hell-did-you-know-that?!' look and left it at that. Yamcha chuckled at the whole scene.

Kakarrotto handed Yamcha a sheet of paper and said, "Use this map. The meeting spot is marked with an 'X'."

Yamcha nodded, "Thanks a lot. I can't thank you enough for this."

Krillin interrupted, "Yamcha's finally broken out of his depressed psycho stage, thanks to you!"

Yamcha glared at Krillin, "Depressed psycho?! How dare you! What did I do to make you think that?!"

Krillin sighed, "Well, before we left Earth, you DID kill that one guy who was down and pretty much helpless....."

Yamcha sweat dropped, "Oops, forgot about that..."

After the whole conversation came to an end, Yamcha was off to see Bulma again, using the map Kakarrotto had given him. Little did anyone know, but Tyler snuck out from his room window and flew off to see Bete. Kakarrotto knew since he could sense his power level rising for take off. He decided that if Tyler wanted to get into more trouble, he'll just have to learn his lesson the hard way.

-----------------------------

30 minutes had gone by since Trunks left the castle. He had been looking for any sign of Bete or Tyler. He wasn't angry at all, though. Trunks was all smiles right now. That is since he could sense a power level from a distance that resembled Tyler's. There was another power level, also. But this one was a little lower. Trunks decided that it was time for him to investigate this.

---------------------------

Yamcha stopped in mid flight, then looked behind him. Tyler didn't have time to hide, so he was caught red handed. Yamcha raised an eyebrow, "And where do you think YOU'RE going?"

Tyler answered, "Well, I was gonna go see a friend of mine and this is the fastest way to her place. Don't mind me...."

Yamcha glared, "Aren't you still grounded?"

Tyler shrugged, "When's the last time you saw a teenager who never snuck out before?"

Yamcha couldn't even argue, "Well, I guess you do have a point...."

They both continued to their destinations. Yamcha's map lead him to a lake which was in a clearing, within a forest. The trees surrounded the clearing, allowing a view of the lake from above. Yamcha flew down toward the lake as Tyler was about to continue toward Bete's house. But before he could, he heard a voice, "Hey, Tyler! Down here!"

The young saiyajin looked down to see that Bete was standing at the lake, waving at him, obviously signaling for him to go down there. He quickly complied with her wishes.

Meanwhile, Yamcha noticed that a blue hair woman was sitting on a rock, right next to the lake, on the opposite side of Tyler and Bete.

"Bulma?"

The woman slowly, turned around to see who was there. Upon seeing the face of her long lost lover, her face lit up with joy and excitement. She stood up and ran into his arms, practically tackling him. The couple held each other tightly as if the other would fade away into oblivion. Intoxicated by their happiness, Yamcha and Bulma never expected what was about to come.

"BIG BANG ATTACK!!!"

A cyan colored ball of ki fell from the sky and exploded into the center of the lake, causing it to become a huge crater within the forest clearing. All four people looked up to see the purple haired prince above and the arrival of his father, and Nappa.

"How fortunate," said King Vegeta, "It looks as if we've found what we've all been looking for." He glared at Bulma as he warped before her and Yamcha, "How dare you run away from me! You will come back immediately!"

Yamcha stepped forward, "I don't think so. I'm not going to let you hurt her. If you want her, you'll have to DIE first!"

Vegeta scoffed, "Pathetic human. Don't make me kill you. And don't you ever utter such threats to me again, unless you don't want to keep that tongue of yours."
---------------------

Trunks smirked as he came down, in front of  Tyler and Bete. "Well, Tyler. It's time for you to die. Are you ready to face your death by the hands of a super saiyajin?"

Tyler gritted his teeth, "You son of a...."

Trunks grinned, "Oh, wait. You like earthling customs, don't you? Well, I think you'll like this idea. How about you fight me in a fighting tournament? You're little girlfriend here will be the prize."

Bete spat, "I'm not an object to be won, you bastard!"

Trunks threw a punch at her, which was caught by Tyler's hand, "Don't even try it, Trunks."

Trunks smirked, "Try what? This?"

Trunks swatted Tyler's arm away, at Bete and as Bete defended against Tyler's unwilling hand, Trunks side kicked her in the side of her head.

Tyler growled, "I'll kill you!"

Tyler was about to pounce on Trunks like a beast, but Trunks quickly transformed into a super saiyajin and smirked. Of course, Tyler backed down after that. He kneeled down beside Bete, trying to wake her up. Trunks punted Tyler about 10 feet away and picked Bete up himself.

He floated up about 3 feet and looked at Tyler with an evil smile, "The tournament will be held tomorrow afternoon at the palace coliseum. I'll look forward to your attendance."

Tyler watched as Trunks carried her off into the night. There was nothing he could do against as super saiyajin. He was doomed.
----------------------

Super Vegeta was already flying off with Bulma in his possession as Yamcha was knocked out against an oak tree. Tyler ran up to the earthling and shook him. "Yamcha! Yamcha, wake up!"

Yamcha's eyes slowly opened. His vision was blurred, but slowly came into focus. Tyler was standing over him, looking extremely serious,"Look, man. They got Bete and Bulma. They said that we have to fight in a tournament tomorrow to get em back."

Yamcha rubbed the back of his head and sneered, "They...they did it again! Yamcha shouted out in frustration as his power aura flared up with rage, nearly blowing Tyler back a few feet. After letting out his frustration he looked up at the sky, as if he could still see Bulma, "Fine. If they wanna fight, then they got it!"

Tyler nodded, "Yeah. They just signed a death warrant."

Yamcha sighed, "We have to tell the others about this, too."

Tyler thought to himself, "I'm supposed to be grounded, too. I'm in deep shit...."

Author's Note: I know it was kinda short and probably wasn't as good as the others. But, at least I finally got it done, right? Right?! Anyway, coming up is the final (I think) installment of Path of the Strongest: A Fight to the Finish!
