When I first laid my expecting eyes on the finalised pics of the Gamecube
I thought it was quite boring (probably better tha the wierd streamlined
artists impressions I had seen). I mean come on a cube? A square box? How
dull. After that I laid my eyes on the controller and thought to myself
'How the hang am I supposed to hold that? It's crazy?". Shortly after this
I found out how miniture the cube actually is and started to think that
I could have jumped to conclusions a bit too soon. I was also releaved
to see that it came in differant colours than purple. I also decided to
look into the ergonomics of the controller and after a bit of thought,
started to bask in the glory of the design. Nintendo have done it again
folks! They have made yet another bold but very cunning move.
The Gamecube is a work of innovation. A piece of art. After drooling
over yet more pictures of the cube, I noted a handle out the back and almost
burst out laughing - shortly before the relisation of how smart this actually
is dawned upon my poor cube starved mind. Who can remember how shocked
people were when they saw the N64 controller? And how functional it really
was (although I saw it baffled many Psux fans, who I saw trying it out
in the shop holding both the outside handles and trying to move with the
stick and fire with the Z-trigger but crawled off to their Psux's again
mumbling about how stupid the controller was. I am the only person I know
that just picked up the controls for the first time to move a splendid
looking 3-d plumber around an equally splendid 3-d world, without looking
at the controller once - I was off and thus emmersed for weeks. Anyway
the point of that mindless dribble was to state that the cube's controller
is the most functional, most ergonomical controller yet! Many people have
stated that it resembles a psx controller in some ways but can I remind
those people how much alike the psx's controller was to that of a snes?
The gamecube seems to have the advantage when it comes to hardware,
being much easier to programme for than the psx2. Nintendo are going to
have a far stronger library of titles this time around though, because
the hardware gives developers much more freedom than the psx2 and also
a lot of 3rd party developers are allready bagging the psx2, saying that
it has far to little ram and it is hard to programme for - back this up
with the fact that Nintendo have the a far superior in house development
crew and how much thought Nintendo put into the tiniest details and I think
we have a winner!
