Here are some of the first shots ever released to the public of Zelda64. In these shots Link seems to have no mouth or nose. Apparently they would give a good impression on what to expect from the final product.

Conclusion

I think that it is definatly a good thing that Link's face was changed, Links face in Z64 is a lot better than this.
