- Majora's Mask - First Impressions-
My first impressions of this game were, "Did they really change much
apart from the map", but quickly after that a huge sense of immersion grabbed
me and held me for the rest of the day. What can I say after that day?
Zelda MM is truely worthy of being part of the series! Whilst the game
uses the Zelda TOOT* engine and borrows most of it's characters and animation,
there is defiantly a huge amount there for even the most jaded Zelda gamer.
Starting off in a new town in an Alternate Hyrule type place called Clocktown
(Hence the huge Clock in the middle), Link is pretty much immediately bombarded
by the surrounding inhabitants and their lives. The brilliance of Clocktown
is how the residents actually move around the place and have conversations
with each other! Gone (hopefully) are the days of people standing around
stuck to one spot and muttering the same sentence all the time. You can
literally (and sometimes have to) follow the characters around the map
and see what they get up to. Most of the characters are alternative versions
of people from Hyrule but there are some new characters, such as the ultra
disturbing Mask seller and the equally (if not more so) Tingles the wannabe
fairy!
Graphic wise this game is a lot like ZTOOT* and uses many of the same
models, fortunately the new area's I have seen seem to also have quite
a few new models that fit well into the Zelda universe and the area's have
there own unique feel. Again the time of day effects the colour scheme
quite a bit and some area's look quite different on different days at different
times.
The sound in this game is HUGELY better thanx to the re-inclusion of
the Overworld Themesong that has been in all the games apart from ZTOOT*.
You all probably know it but if you don't, here's what it goes like:- dodo
dododoo doodlooo dooodleooodleodle dut doodle doo doodle dut dut dut dooodleoodleoodle
....uh yeh, something like that anyway! Again most of the music effects
are from ZOOT!
The gameplay is where it really starts to kick in though! Basically
this game is just as much fun to play through, from what I have seen so
far it could even be more so! It also looks like ZMM is going to be harder
with way bigger and badder baddies, which would be good! Zelda1 on the
NES was a struggle to get through and had some really mean bad guys - Hopefully
Zelda games will be having more challenging bad guys again! Mmmmmmm, I
like it like that~!
