Don't like this editorial? Blame Scooby-Doo. It inspired me.
Basically, leave my Puritanical country alone. Scooby-Doo just reminded me of a beloved American sight gag.
Picture this: two guys are both interested in the same girl. And one's standing on each side of her. Girl giggles coquettishly(yeah, yeah, that's a stereotype we'll deal with later)both guys decide to make their move and try to kiss girl on the cheek. Girl ducks, guys end up kissing each other on the mouth.
There are at least two examples of this that I've seen: just now on Scooby-Doo with Scooby and pointless add on characters Scooby-Dumb and Scooby-Dee. And in an old Chip and Dale cartoon. You know the one where Clarice is performing and Chip and Dale sneak out to see her? Big musical number, then Chip and Dale move in. Clarice, of course, dodges, and Chip and Dale end up kissing...and embracing. Yeah, those crazy chipmunks! Ha, ha!
True, these examples are all from pre-1986. Go watch Space Jam. Bugs Bunny was cited in an earlier review, but he locks lips with Michael Jordan at least once.
So, you can all thank Scooby-Doo for that repeat vent.
I know what you're thinking now..."Well, Zelda, if it's okay for Disney rodents to make-out for humorous purposes, why can't Fish-Eye be male and try to kiss Darien? That made me laugh hysterically! And you said Americans love men in drag!"
We sure do! Look, I recently found out that in some countries, cartoons don't even get as dodgy as Animaniacs(okay, Animaniacs really stretched it...) Be happy for what you have.
Any purists out there who somehow made it this far are probably vomiting into their trashcans before looking back up to glare at the screen and say, "Great. Another crappy dubbie site. This is exactly why Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon should never have been dubbed!"
No comment. I think I've said enough about this subject already...
Meanwhile, I've decided that I don't like review sites. Well, the preachy, pretentious ones.(I find myself enjoying AQ's Worst Pages immensely, but everything other than that annoys me.)
As someone who really wants to be given an award that says I suck(do you know what an honor it is to be considered the worst when there's so much crap out there?) it's odd that I find myself despising a good many review sites.
Here's a main reason why: I noticed something while procrastinating/not sleeping. On review sites with multiple reviewers, the sites of fellow reviewers tended to get the highest ratings. In some cases these fellow reviewers did have great sites. Some of them didn't, however, and visiting a page that was damn near impossible to navigate(as well as being hella ugly, although my current splash page makes me one to talk...) that had was half a point away from a fellow reviewer's highest rating...
Coincidence? I doubt it. Okay, other sites submitted are rarely stellar, but...I'm bothered by such things.
A large part of this is probably based on the fact that I've been bored lately(and needed something to do instead of working on my Theater History paper). And while there are some great pages out there, I'm starting to memorize some of them.
And no, this isn't a whiney plea for updates, because I am the last person to complain about webmasters not updating. I also really hate getting little guestbook entries of "Update, god damn you!" or e-mails of "When are you going to update again?" If you're going to send me an e-mail asking me when I'm going to finish another fic and we've never met before, at least have an introductory paragraph saying how much you enjoy my site or my writing(which still won't buy my love.) I'll always send a polite reply back(I grew up in Virginia. We're just as mean as every other region of the United States, but we'll rarely be mean to you to your face)but it's one of my major pet peeves.
Back to the subject at hand, I have reached that special place where I will be happy if I find an Amazon Trio shrine. In any form. Even if it involves crudely drawn stick figures and a Fish-Eye haiku. So I naturally don't understand the review site mentality I seem to have stumbled across.
I don't know what it is, webpage wise, but pretention bothers me. Maybe it's because, despite being vain/egocentric as folk, one of my greatest joys came from seeing a little link to this page on a small AT shrine...saying that I was a decent place to go for information about the Dead Moon Circus...
I was extremely flattered, mostly because even my info section doesn't try for info(basic stats bore me and other pages have done much better) My character "profiles"(profile at the moment) are simply my random thoughts about the characters...("Nehelenia gave me nightmares. Notice how she has naked Helios tied up in a cage? Pretty kinky!")
And so, on a happy note, ends March's assortment of jumbled ramblings. Flames go to the usual place. Or the guestbook. I like seeing new things in the guestbook.
