Having the same hobby or sport is a good foundation for friendship but for something more romantic,it's how their personalities complement each other that's more relevant and not the sport they play.Sora is very mature for her age while both Tai and Mimi are on the transition from immaturity to maturity.True,Sora is the voice of reason for Taichi.He needs someone like her to show him the right decisions to make.However,he also needs someone who wouldn't treat him like a little boy..someone who has the same level of perception as his.For example,Taichi and Sora became a real couple.Their relationship may run smoothly for a while but knowing Sora,she'd probably hinder Taichi from doing things which he likes to do because she thinks he's not supposed to do them either because they're dangerous or unreasonable. Taichi isn't the submissive type really,so if their relationship keeps on going like this,he might feel suffocated.
Taichi didn't cry when Mimi was captured unlike with Sora.
Ah..the famous taiora evidence.Personally,when I saw this scene,the first thing that came to my mind was that he cried because he felt he failed as a leader.Taoira fans who'd probably see my statement would say that it's obvious I would think that way because I'm Michi.To tell you frankly,during that time I wasn't into Michi or Mimato or any other couple.Taichi was blaming himself at that time for he could save Sora but he wasn't able to because he became a coward(this is according to our translation of Digimon.We don't follow Fox's translation.We have Taichi Yagami not Tai Kamiya.).He's undergoing self-blame.If it was another Chosen Child who was captured,having the same scenario,he would still cry.
But it was still Taichi who saved Sora...
Who do you expect to do the job?Yamato?Jyou?Takeru?Obviously,it was Taichi's responsibility to save Sora because he's the one who has been friends with her for a long time.He can't pass the obligation to the others for it would only make him such a bad friend if he does.

I've seen most Taiora sites use this statement as one of their proofs.For one,Digimon is mainly not centered on romance,unlike Fushigi Yuugi for instance.There are no official couples,so fans have all the freedom to mix and match the characters.Saying one is in love with another signifies the that the couple is official.However,Taiora isn't official(and we don't even know if romance would be added to the 01 characters' storylines) so having the said statement above as evidence is invalid.
