Toby is a young man with blue eyes and a big bush of blonde hair. His entire body is covered by his magician's outfit that looks like a jester outfit that is skyblue and blue, and yellow on the inside. Fans have often said he's the only man to ever look good in a blue bug suit. ^_^ He's also been called broom head by fans.
Toby is the oldest child in his family and Cherry's older brother. He apparently left his home earlier to pursue his own dreams and own career, namely wanting to become the most powerful magician in the world. His father, who seems to be a very down to earth man must have seen this as nonsense, and this must be the reason why Toby left home. Toby doesn't seem to want to follow in his father's footsteps of having a family and being a steady provider as a hard labor worker. Even so, for all his father's pride, his father does miss Toby, but is too proud to become sad and upset. Instead, when his son is mentioned, he becomes angry. It can clearly be seen that he misses his son.
Somewhere, sometime after he left home, Toby must have met Lord Kuruku. Even though Kuruku hates all humans, he takes Toby as his servant, having him go out to do all the work of turning creatures into living puppets. Their bargain is for Toby to turn animals into puppets in exchange for Kuruku teaching him magic tricks. In their original agreement, Toby was to turn animals into puppets, but then Kuruku wants him to transform humans too, something Toby didn't agree to do and doesn't want to do, but has to anyway. He hopes that he'll become powerful enough one day to be able to transform everyone back and probably to overthrow Kuruku. Whether Toby's magic powers are his own or they come from Kuruku isn't known; his powers act and seem a lot like Kuruku's magic. However, Toby also has the ability to turn around and attack Kuruku with magic, and if Kuruku gave him his powers, then he could simply strip Toby of his powers if they were Kuruku's power given to Toby. Either Toby has inner power and magic of his own that Kuruku saw could be used to his advantage (and thus explaining why he allowed him to become his apprentice; either that or Kuruku knew he could easily manipulate Toby because of his personality) or Kuruku let Toby attack him because he found the attempt futile and amusing.
Toby deeply cares for his family, but especially for his little sister Cherry. When Cherry and Unico show up on Nightmare Island, Kuruku's island, Toby does some quick thinking so that he can turn them into toys instead of living puppets, since he only knows how to reverse the spell for toys and not living puppets. He then changes and frees them later, taking them back home.
When Cherry and Unico get back to Nightmare Island again, Toby faces Kuruku to save his sister, stating to Kuruku that he was waiting for the day when he would be turned into a living puppet as well, since that would have to happen eventually when either he rebelled or everything on the planet was under Kuruku's control. Toby gets injured and fails. He is turned into a living puppet, without being able to help his sister who is turned into a puppet soon after.
