In the pilot film and manga, the goddess of love and beauty is jealous of Unico. Instead of The Gods in the other two films, Venus is responsible for Unico's misery.
Venus is portrayed as a beautiful woman with black eyes, crimson brown hair, and in a fanciful bright blue Roman/Greek dress that shows off her legs and has a long train of cloth and see-through blue cloth around the shoulders. She also wears large oval earrings and her hair is worn so her ears are not seen.
If you are familiar with Greek/Roman mythology, Venus became jealous of a beautiful princess named Psyche who is said to be more beautiful than even her. Unico is Psyche's pet and she's his original mistress. Venus also becomes jealous of Unico and his happiness with Psyche, and blames Unico as a source of good luck for Psyche. She has a butterfly/butterfly spirit/fairy kidnap Unico after it disguises itself as Physce and fooling Unico. Venus then summons West Wind forward, and tells West Wind that Unico is banished either to a certain location (?; facts are sketchy with what I can interpet from the film in Japanese) or is banished to travel through time to different locations and then have to leave them constantly with West Wind for all time. Since they travel through time, this might explain why Unico never seems to get any older (or get older naturally).
