Akane is the 16-year-old tomboy daughter of Soun Tendo, and is engaged to Ranma. She is the only one of Ranma’s fiancées who would rather not be.
At first when she meets Ranma as a girl she says “Hi I’m Akane, you want to be friends?” So much for that idea when she finds out he’s a boy, and it doesn’t really help that she walked in on him in the bathroom and now is intent on calling him a pervert.
Akane is the youngest of Soun's daughters and when they find out that one of them has to be engaged to Ranma, Nabiki and Kasumi soon decide that it should be Akane with the excuse that Akane doesn't like boys and Ranma is half girl anyway.
Akane is the only one of Soun’s daughters to practice martial arts, and is a bit of a hot head. At the very beginning of the story we find out that she has a crush on Dr. Tofu the local Chiropractor, but this crush soon subsides at the end of the first book. She totally despises all other men, especially Ranma (but of course she loves him really). Some of her admirers include Ryouga Hibiki, Mikado Sanzenin and Tatewaki Kuno.
Before Ranma came into her life, her principal suitor was Tatewaki Kuno (and almost every other boy at Furinkan High School). Though she is quite popular and attractive, she has a reputation of being a tomboy and has always said that she has no interest in dating. Since Ranma became her fiancé, many of the boys at her school seem to have accepted the fact that they cannot compete with him, and have lost interest, all with the exception of Tatewaki Kuno.
At the very beginning Akane had long hair, but it soon gets cut short in a fight between Ranma and Ryouga. Akane is really upset about losing her hair as she was only trying to help Ranma. However, Akane is a lot cuter with short hair.
She also has a pet pig called P-Chan, who is none other than Ryouga. Akane is blissfully unaware of this fact and is quite happy to take P-chan to bed with her, much to Ranma's horror.
Akane is also comically inept at traditional feminine pursuits like cooking, sewing, and tea ceremony. She also swims like a hammer, being utterly incapable of staying afloat and is a total klutz.
She goes to Furinkan High and is in 1-F like Ranma.
Akane has a very violent temper and often has injured Ranma, although Ranma is often to blame. Akane is very nice to others unless provoked. Akane's mother died when she was very young and she misses her a lot. She often feels sorry for Ryouga because he is always losing against Ranma (though he does bring it on himself). She is good at sports and is captain of the volley ball team.
Personality: Like Ranma, she often helps out people with their problems (she has even helped out Shampoo, Mousse and Ukyou). She is honest and rarely uses underhanded tricks and isn't exactly vindictive. Sometimes she can be a little cruel, but only when she feels quite put upon.
However, she does get angry quite easily, and violent especially towards boys, but once she calms down again, she's normally okay. She does also have a particular problem in believing Ranma though, and generally expects the worst of him and doesn't give him time to explain his actions.
