Makoto (also known more commonly as Mako or Mako-chan) is the fourth senshi to be discovered by Usagi. She had problems in her old school (mainly because of a boy) and left, and rumors were spread about her beating up a kid, so no one would be her friend. No one except Usagi, who is attracted to her cute lunch and is impressed by her strength, cooking skills, and cuteness, so they become fast friends. Usagi takes Makoto to the video arcade after meeting her when school is over for the day. While there, Makoto sees a boy, Joe, who is extremely talented at the UFO catcher game, winning anything he wants. Makoto thinks him to be like her senpai, so she immediately thinks he's cute. She therefore follows him when he leaves. Joe is one of the seven original Youma of the Dark Kingdom, and when Zoicite attacks him for his rainbow crystal, Makoto defends Joe. Joe is considerably callous to Makoto, saying he doesn't like how she's so tall and unfeminine, and he admits to her that he has a special telekinetic power that enables him to cheat at the UFO catching. Zoicite attacks once more, and Joe flees, and Makoto, in anger at his comments about her, chases after. Zoicite takes Joe's crystal, and he turns into a Youma. The Youma goes after Makoto, but Sailormoon intervenes, though somehow she manages to be caught by the enemy. Luna, at this point, gives Makoto her henshin stick after seeing the sign of Jupiter flash on Mako's forehead. The brunette then transforms and saves Sailormoon, thus joining the Sailor Team as the fourth senshi.
Makoto is quite tall and strong and has aspects of what some would call a tomboy in her makeup. Makoto is an extraordinary cook; this is helpful for Makoto since she lives on her own. This ability at cooking also helps to endear Makoto to Usagi, the food connoisseur.
She lives alone in an apartment because her parents were killed in an airplane crash, hence her trouble with airplanes.
Like the rest of the Inner Senshi (save Rei), Makoto goes to Juuban Junior High School in Minato-Ku (in Sailor Moon). Interestingly enough, Makoto does not wear the same uniform as the other girls. This is because Juuban Junior High does not have uniforms to meet her size.
As Sailor Jupiter, Makoto is one of the stronger Inner Senshi. This is due to both her physical strength and due to her power of thunder. This also contributes to Makoto being one of the more aggressive senshi. Makoto is often smirkly referred to as the talented senshi by her detractors. Talented refers to a translation in the DiC dub from the original...in the original "Snow White" episode, Makoto says that she should get the role of Snow White because she has the largest breasts...DiC translates it to 'talent'
Makoto is a semi-paradox sort of girl. While she is somewhat tough and has a quick temper, she enjoys cleaning, cooking, and "feminine" activities. She is constantly attracted to a new boy, who she claims always looks like her senpai. She is constantly being taken advantage of because of this fault. In the first season, a possessed ice skater believes her to be a Sailor Senshi, so uses his charm on her; in SuperS, Tigerseye treats her incredibly cruelly but she accepts it because she is so infatuated with him. Some people have accused her of being bisexual because she chases Haruka around in one SMS episode, but that was only because she deeply admired Haruka.

During the series, she has two different forms of senshi:

Sailor Jupiter: Her first form in the first season, R, and early S.

Super Sailor Jupiter: Her form in SuperS and SailorStars.

Transformations:

Jupiter Power, Make Up: Used to transform into Sailor Jupiter during the Sailor Moon series. Makoto spins with lightning around her. She brings in her arms and legs, and the lightning encases her. She appears in uniform, then strikes a martial arts-like pose.

Jupiter Star Power, Make Up: Transformation phrase using during Sailor Moon R series; first appearing in episode 65. Same as her other transformation, except the symbol of Jupiter appears in the background.

Jupiter Crystal Power, Make Up: Used to transform into Super Sailor Jupiter; first appears in episode 154 (Sailor Moon Super S series). Same as her other transformation, except the symbol of Jupiter and a circlet of leaves form in the background.

Attacks:

Supreme Thunder: Sailor Jupiter's attack during the Sailor Moon series. A lightning rod extends from Jupiter's tiara, a lightning bolt shoots into it, and she shoots it out.

Supreme Thunder Dragon: Sailor Jupiter's powered attack first appearing in Sailor Moon R episode 55. Same as the Supreme Thunder but the lightning forms into a dragon.

Sparkling Wide Pressure: Sailor Jupiter's attack using new transformation phrase; first appears in episode 65. A lightning rod extends from Jupiter's tiara, and lightning crackles all around her. She goes into a praying stance, then throws a ball of lightning.

Jupiter Oak Evolution: Super Sailor Jupiter's attack used in the Sailor Moon Super S series and on. Jupiter spins and a series of energy leaves shoot out everywhere.
