.hack//Liminality
.hack//Liminality is the OVA series that comes with the games. The story revolves around several characters.
The first is a girl named Mai Minase. Mai is the main character of this story. While playing "The World" for the first time with her boyfriend, Tomonari Kasumi, he and her both fall unconscious while playing and are rushed to the hospital. She wakes up, but her boyfriend does not. She is determined to find out what happened to them. She also has a strange ability to hear a "ahh" sound right before something happens in the game, and she uses this to log out before anything can happen to her.
The second is a man named Tokuoka Junichiro. A former employee of the CC company which made "The World", now investigating the strange occurrence where players fall unconscious while playing. According to him there have been 6 others who have fallen while player before Kasumi. He convinces Mai to help him and they log in to find out what exactly happened.
The next is Yuki Aihara. She gets trapped in Yokohama during an emergency. She was supposed to have a meeting with Tokuoka, but he was delayed. She has information regarding the current situation with the World.
After her is Kyoko Tohno. She meets up with Tokuoka in a remote part of Japan. There they search out clues and unravel more information regarding the Epitapth of Twilight.
