Final Fantasy X
Summary: You start off as Tidus, a star blitzball player who gets thrown into a world with chaos... and Sin. You learn that you and your new friends must defeat Sin or face the end of all humanity. The odd religious backbone that supports Spira, your new home, and the myriad of people who all support and oppose you will change your life, forever. This is how it begins, in your eyes, and as you soon uncover, you don't even know the whole truth. Happy Gaming. -_^ Review:I, as you probably guessed, am a big fan of the Final Fantasy series. But I am not a biased person. The movie did nothing for me as did FF IX. They were nice tries, but not something that stuck with me. With this intallment, however, I had nightmares and dreams. I was so attached to each character individually that each emotion they experianced and trial they faced was my own. It's hard to find such a moving story beyond the realm of a good book, but this one has it. Combined with superb animation and a nice set of voice actors, you will be drawn into the world of Spira for 100 hours of your life. The only thing I believe that was lacking was the freedom of plot move ment. The game is very linear until about halfway into it. However, i understand why the creators did this and do not believe it negates the overall experiance. Rating:5/5

Devil May Cry
Summary: Dante *drool*, the half demon, is the main character in this "too hot" game. If the title opening doesn't get you ready to kick some evil ass then the intro sure as hell will. After being imapled through the chest (which seems to happen to Dante more than he'd like) You're ready to roll. Have some revenge, cool weapons and a lot of fun. Review:Where do i begin? The animation: superb. The characters: Kick Ass! The Fights: Rock. The GamePlay: Easy Mode to Dante Must Die Mode. RePlay: Of Course! The Plot: well... they tried. Really the plot could have been developed more. I don't really care about Dante's mother as much as I think I'm supposed to. *shrug* Who cares?! I still love this game! Rating:5/5

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3
Summary: The plot consists of a group of skaters who must SAVE THE WORLD!!!... j/k Actually you just haveto kick ass in a bunch of skating arenas and impress a few fans along the way. Most of all, you have to stay on the board and off of your face. And that's almost as hard as trying to save the world. -_^ Review: Lemme start with all of the cool updates that are available in THPS3. The character creation is a particular favorite. You havea new range of odd items to wear and more choices, such a female create a skater. yay! The locations are more detailed and you have cooler challenges like "saving" a man trapped in his car after an earthquake. This game has all the fun and replay value we dream of. A definate keeper for parties. Rating:5/5

Grand Theft Auto 3
Summary: You've escaped from a Prison transport, and now you've got an entire city to hide out in and work your way through. You meet a series of underhanded people in each city's hidden life. Do dirty deeds, make money, and maybe you'll live to see tommorrow. Review: Tired of the old GTA we were all addicted to? That overhead bird's eye view? The tiny people and the lack of blood and ammo? Well here it is, what you've always wanted. GTA in full color, 3-D with enough death and explosions to get it banned from thousands of households! You actually get to see what you're destroying and steal a variety of new cars and armored tanks. Screw around with the Police and Fire Department, and while you're at it, try to keep the bullets out of your own ass. I love this game, the only hard part is trying to remeber not to go on a rampage in the mall parking lot when i go to work. -_^ Rating:5/5

Aqua Aqua
Summary: The earth needs redecoration and to achieve that you must capture the rain and try to keep your water level at 70%. All the while you have to avoid bombs, fireballs and a variety of monsters that are doing everything they can to wreck your landscape. It's Tetris, but a 100x harder. -_^ Review: Ouch, I bought this game thinking "what a fun little puzzle game." I warn you now that this is not as easy as it looks. With Tetris you just had to avoid the cieling. With Aqua Aqua, it seem slike as soon as you get good at soimething, another problem arises. It sure makes me glad I didn't create the Earth. It seems to be a pretty frustrating endevour. The replay value is pretty high if you're someone who likes a challenge and doesn't give up. But pretty low if you get annoyed with puzzle games. The graphics are Kawaii, the music is annoying and waiting for the flashing danger messages to go away so you can continue playing has it's own obnoxious quality. Still, it was worth the $14.99 yet I suggest you rent it first. ^o^ Rating:4/5

Gran Turisimo 3
Summary: Ever wonder what It'd be like to be a professioonal driver? Starting at the bottom with a cheap car. Working your way up competition after competition to win money. Just so you can buy and build a better car. Then repeating the process until you are king of the road? This is what you have been looking for. Review: Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool! In case you were wondering, that's not o photo. It's the superb graphics that make this game memorable. From the crappy 18,000 car you start with to the coveted F-1, every vehicle's detail is painstakingly animated. Each race is a cut scene in itself as the scenery and autos melt into one another. You'll swear you're watching ESPN. I promise, you can't get tired of this game. Rating:5/5

Silent Hill 2
Summary: You start in a strange town, familiar because you used to live here. Silent Hill. A letterfrom your dead wife sends you back to find her. Why Here? Why Now? And who wrote that letter? That's what you've come to discover. But the answers may not be pleasant. Review: The creepy level of SH2 as compared to the first is unparalleled. You still have a static radio that makes every noise scare the crap out of you, but this time there are creepy crawlies that attack you from behind walls and under cars. There's a creepy little girl that won't leave you alone and some giant freak with a pyramid head that keeps following you. And to think, you're only armed with a stick! Keep the lights on and don't play this game alone. It will get to you. It will haunt you. And that's pretty good, for a game. Rating:5/5

Twisted Metal: Black
Summary: Apparently, all of the old folks and some new guys and gals as well, are all in a mental institution for various reasons. At different times, they are each approached by Calypso and offered a chance at revenge/redemption etc if they win his lil tournament of death. Thus, you begin the game... Review: This is one of the better game sequels out there. Unlike films, games tend to improve over time. TMB has wonderful animation and interesting backgrounds for each level. There are an array of levels and even options on which one you compete in. Even for story mode which, when you beat, has a beautifully animated CG movie with an expalnatory closure to that driver's horrible tale/life. Unlike Mortal Kombat, you'll actually WANT to beat the game with every character. It's only 8 levels to win, 2 bosses and it doesn't take too long or get soooooo boring that you lose interest. I definately recommend this one. Great for HOURS and DAYS of enjoyment. Rating:5/5

Dark Cloud
Summary:Your villiage (along with many others) have been destroyed by a couple of morons who want to rule the world. Apparently, this has happened before, so they should have known better right? Anywho, you have to go back and forth between battles and town to gather peices and rebuild each villiage. As you do so, talk to the people you come across for help and clues. Review: This is a "pre-ending" review. I'll update this after i beat the game. The first nice thing that caught my eye was the opening sequence. Very good animation and choreography are combined int o a wonderful tribal dance rountine that puts the "Riverdanceesque" one from FF9 to shame. So far, the animation andstory have caught mya ttention. Unfortunately, the boring task of rebuilding villages is bothering me. so I can't give a fair review at this point, but just know that I'm interested enough to finish this one. Rating:4/5

Unreal Tournament
Summary: What is there to say. You get to shoot people and KILL them. YAY! There is an array of weoponry strewn about for you and variety of different game types, from free for all to Capture the Flag. Getsome friends together and go at it! Review: Woo Hoo! I wish the rest of you could play this game against my little brother. His tauting of "I have a nail gun with your name on it. Get down here and take what's coming to you!" Made this a very enjoyable game. It's afuna nd is kinda challeging when played against another skilled gamer. Again, just rent this one unless you don't get sick of the few levels that are offered and the array of weopons offered. My favorite game: I like the capture the flag setting. Weopon of Choice: the shotgun. Rating:4/5

Bouncer
Summary: You havethe option to play one of three bouncers. Dominique, a bar mascot and friend of Sion (the guy on the cover -_^) has been kidnapped by Mikado Special Forces. The entire point of the game is to rescue Dominique and bring her back to safety.
Review: This game wasn't all it was hyped up to be. The intro is a nice work of animation in itself and the characters are an interesting neo-raver twist in the anime world. Still, the fighting arrangement and plot are lacking. It's got a cheesy feel to the whole game and so does the music. kinda teenie-bopperish and simply doesn't appeal to me. It's as if the game was designed to "suck up" to the new generation. Rating:3/5

Onimusha
Summary: You play the main character (the guy on THIS cover -_^)Samanosuke Akechi, who (a'la Silent Hill) dies in the opening, during an attempt to stop the kidnapping of young princess Yuki. He is then given another chance at life, and is handed the power of the gauntlet. This guantlet has special power of its own and will help you through out the game.2
Review: This game had nice animation and a pretty interesting story. Unfortunately, it fails to fully satisfy you for two reasons: Its waaaaaay too easyto beat and it's over in about 6 hours of game play. You leave wanting more, and wishing it was a lot longer. Definately an rental choice, but i wouldn't buy it for keeps. Rating:3/5

Tekken Tag Tournament
Summary: It's a rehash of an oldie with some new twists. No real story summary. Just good ol' fashioned violence. Just don'tforget to tag before you die, you can heal while you're partner gets his arse beaten. ^_^ Review: I really enjoyed the different characters you had to pick from. That's all that keeps me playing these fighting games. I'm more interested in a developing story or plot that trying to smash my opponents head in. Unless he's Sephiroth. Then i wish i could put him in a sleeper hold. *sigh* Anywho, though the fighting was nicely and smoothly animated, the game does get old after a while. Not worth the buy, but good to rent and invite some friends over for a pounding. Rating:3/5

Zone of Enders (ZOE)
Summary: A great game that reminds me of Gundam and Evangelion. It's a CapCom Anime style game with wonderful graphics and an interesting story. You play Leo, the main charachter. He's been unwittingly thrown into the middle of a universal conflict and must now pilot the frame (Jehuty) to do his part and help. Review:Nice balance between CG movies and actual play time. It starts you out pretty simply and has an ADA that explains almost every detail of each mission. There are some parts you may get stuck on, but through trial and error you'll figure them out. Also, I think one of the best features of this game is the soundtrack; the music is beautiful. Almost up there with Nobuo Uematsu. Almost. ^_^ Overall, a nicely fun and challenging game. Rating:5/5
|
Shadow of Destiny
Summary: You play the main charcter Eike Kusch and are trying to solve a murder, your own. You use time travel to change the past and postpone the immenent. Review:This is a great game. It has five different endings so there is definatey a replay value and it sports wonderful graphics. The characters and the story line work well together. Even so, the game is a little easy to beat and not much of a challenge. Rating:4/5
|
Summoner
Summary: You are Joseph, the Summoner's mark is on you and you must use this power to defeat the evil powers all around you. Plenty of people join your side in battle and have their own unique capabilities to help the side of good. Review:This is an okay game. It's a pretty generic RPG with no real replay value unless there are a few sidequests you missed the first time. I can't say the animtaion is all that great, not for PS2. The people all look like they're suffering from leprosy, which they might be ^_^. The characters are pretty interesting but they do drone on a bit each time you talk to them. Rating:3/5
|
Oni
Summary: Okay you play a cop, a female cop. Woo hoo. You're hunting down the bad guys. yay. Not too interesting of a plot, pretty predictable. Review: The game is eh. I know it looked great on TV, but it wasn't. First off, the control is horrible. Hell you spend the first chapter just learning how to use the analogs to do everything. If you manage to finally play, the animation is okay but the dialogue is all but impossible to read it's tiny and a bad font choice. It was hard to really enjoy the plot when I had to keep from running into walls and trying not to get shot. On the plus side, you have pretty cool weapons and the fighting isn't too difficult, if you keep the weopons loaded. ^_^ Rating:2/5
|
Kengo
Summary: You choose you Bushido master and train him to be the best. Training is set everywhere from an ice cold waterfall to the bamboo forest. Then use him to compete against others and watch them bleed. Goody. Review:This game is pretty good. There's plenty of beautiful scenery and great animation. It has a lot of features that make it stand out amongst others. For instance, you can actually bleed to death. Now that's realism. ^_^ Rating:4/5

Kessen
Summary: Kind of a cross between Star Craft and The Patriot, Kessen has you command the troops of a large Chinese Army. You can choose which side. Then you fight battle by battle to win the war. Review:This isn't the best game to play if you actually like to play and not watch CG movies all the time. It does have interesting cut scenes of cool 16th century weaponry but MAN! every single time?! I thought StarCraft took a while to play but this one takes forever! And you don't even really accomplish much of anything. Rating:2/5
