His mother and father both ruled the kingdom of Fanelia. His father died when he was very young, his brother disappeared after the rite of the dragon slaying and soon after that his mother disappeared. So Van has been without his real family from probably the age of 5. The people he considered to be his family were Balgus and Merle/Meuruu. He has pretty much been the ruler of Fanelia for 10 years, but he had to go through the rite of dragon slaying to become king. When Van was 15 he had to undergo the rite of dragon slaying to become the king. When he was fighting with the land dragon a pillar of light transported him to the mystic moon (the place we call earth). On the mystic moon with the help of Hitomi (as if you don’t know who she is) Van killed the land dragon, and got his dragenergist! YAY FOR VAN!
