Sachiel, the terrible harbinger of things to come...
Sachiel is the first Angel to make an appearance in Evangelion and, in my humble opinion, is one of the coolest. I mean, c'mon, it's a total BADASS! *ahem* Anyway...
As I was saying, Sachiel is the first Angel to make an appearance in the series as it comes to Tokyo-3 in its quest to find and reunite with Adam. The military is quick to respond, but is easily dispatched by Sachiel's surprsingly wide (when compared to the other Shito) array ot attacks and abilities. Out of desparation, the military deploys an N2 (Non-Nuclear) device, which only serves to worsen things as Sachiel gains the ability of firing a Cross-flare upon regeneration of its wounds.
Has anyone else noticed that when Sachiel regenerates from the N2, he gets a second head? Which head is the damaged one and which is the new one?
After regenerating enough to continue, Sachiel proceeds to march all the way to the center of Tokyo-3, directly over NERV HQ and Geo-Front. There, it confronts EVA Unit-01 and its first-time pilot, Shinji Ikari. The fight seems like a quick kill for Sachiel at first, as he snaps Unit-01's arm and pierces the braincase of the EVA with hardly any resistence at all.
However, when it seems as though Sachiel has won, the EVA Unit-01 does what it does best...it goes berserker. After ripping through Sachiel's AT Field like it was nothing, the two engage in what could be best described as drunken brawl like what you might see in your local bar. ^_^ In the struggle, Sachiel's hands are torn off and its S2 Organ is ruptured. Finding himself mortally wounded with no AT Field, Sachiel performs one final offensive act by leaping onto Unit-01 and self-destructing. However, the disturbingly beatiful Cross-shaped explosion that resulted failed to kill the EVA.
Despite being the first Angel to make an appearance, Sachiel is far from being a pushover. As stated, he has an impressive array of offensive capabilities when compared to the other Shito. Perhaps Sachiel's most commonly used attack is the use of battering rams located in his arms. Normally protruding from the back of his elbows, Sachiel can force these laser-rams through the palms of his hands with devastating results. The Angel also has a Cross-shaped flare that it seems to fire from the red plate on its chest (perhaps its S2 organ?). Sachiel also has the ability to increase muscular mass in his arms, enabling him to manhandle anything he grabs (a'la a rather large missile and EVA Unit-01's left arm).
As defense, Sachiel possesses the ability to regenerate wounds, and his AT Field is nothing to laugh at, even if it's not necessarily the strongest. The ability to float over surfaces is also useful when the Angel is pinned down by the military. Indeed, despite being the first Angel NERV faces, Sachiel is a very formidable opponent.
