All was quiet at Hikawa shrine. The sakura petals were drifting on the warm, summer breeze and happy couples were wandering around, taking in the peace, making wishes and buying charms for their love lives. Everything seemed like the perfect day until suddenly, the peace was shattered by a piercing wail.
“Wahhhh!! Rei! Why did you have to tell me tomorrow was the first day of school?” A young girl with blond hair up in two pigtail buns, cried while the group around her laughed.
Rei, a beautiful young shrine maiden with black hair, smacked the crying girl on the side of the head. “I told you because you have meatballs for brains!” She responded. “If I hadn’t reminded you, you would have slept all morning and missed it Usagi-Baka!”
Usagi sniffled at that. “I would not Rei! Stop being so mean! Luna would have woken me up!” She turned hopeful eyes to a black cat with a yellow crescent moon on its forehead.
Luna, who had been watching with interest, suddenly squirmed while the white cat beside her, also with a crescent moon on its forehead snickered. “Well, Usagi, I guess…” She trailed off as Usagi burst into fresh tears. “Well last year when I woke you up for the first day of school I got thrown across the room and out the window!” She defended herself, as she glared at the laughing cat beside her and said, “I wouldn’t laugh if I were you Artemis! You have the job of waking Minako up and she’s almost as bad as Usagi!”
A pretty girl with blond hair frowned at that and picked up Luna while the tall brunette beside her laughed. “What was that Luna?” The blond girl, Minako, asked Luna in a dangerous voice.
“M-Minako-chan,” Luna stammered. “It’s only what Artemis told me from last year!” She squirmed wildly, trying to free herself then suddenly found herself dropped to the ground. “Ar-te-mis…” Minako growled looking around for the hapless cat, which had run behind the brunette’s legs to hide.
“Calm down Mina-chan,” A quiet looking girl with short blue hair started. “It’s very true that you and Usagi will be late for school tomorrow!” That caused Minako to pause in her revenge, and Usagi to stop crying and both blonds grinned sheepishly. “I just hope I studied enough over the summer,” The blue haired girl continued. “I did only take three summer classes and I don’t know if that is enough to prepare me for the difficulty level of the second year in Senior High…” She frowned worriedly.
“Ami-chan!” The other girls coursed laughing. “We all know your going to be the top in the class again!”
“Class,” Usagi wailed. “I don’t want to go to school! I want to keep dating Mamo-chan every day!” She shook her head wildly as tears poured down her cheeks, causing her pigtails hair to flail wildly, making the other girls duck to avoid being hit.
The tall brunette rubbed her ear, starting to get a headache from Usagi’s whining. “Usagi-chan I’m sure you will still find time to date Mamoru even with school,” She said soothingly.
Usagi perked up. “Really Mako-chan?” She asked hopefully.
A sweat drop appeared on Makoto’s head but she nodded.
Suddenly Rei gasped and stiffened.
“What is it Rei-chan?” Luna asked her.
“I just received a really bad feeling Luna, I think something evil is coming…” The psychic priestess replied, while the other girls quieted and watched Rei worriedly.
Luna frowned. “But we already defeated Chaos,” She protested.
“I know Luna, but I believe another enemy has risen, I’ll do a fire reading tonight.”
At that the other girls nodded and went back to their friendly bickering although not with as much energy as before.
Later that night, after the shrine had closed and all the couples had gone home, the dark haired Rei knelt in front of a fire in the center of the shrine and started chanting softly. “Oh great fire, show me this evil which now threatens our peace.” She concentrated on the bright flames; sweat trickling down her face as she chanted.
After about an hour, she was just about to give up when suddenly a face appeared in the flames. The face of the man was that of someone who looked familiar to Rei, someone she had known. She frowned, trying to remember where she had seen those piercing eyes and long hair before, but before she could remember anything the vision disappeared from the flames.
With a tired sigh, Rei slumped forward tiredly, than rose and went to bed to rest.
The next morning Makoto and Ami stood by the steps of Juuban Senior High, waiting for Usagi and Minako to show up. Just as the first bell was about to ring, they heard twin screams, and the two girls plowed into the courtyard, screeching to a stop in front of Ami and Makoto.
“What are you two still doing out here?” Usagi panted, while Minako fixed the red bow in her hair.
Ami blushed and Makoto laughed. “We had Luna and Artemis reset your clocks! School doesn’t actually start for another five minutes.”
“You did what??” Usagi and Minako yelled in unison.
“Well you’re here on time right?” Makoto asked calmly.
The two blond girls blinked at each other then grinned. “Alright! Maybe we’ll do better this year!”
The first bell rang and the four girls went to look and the lists, grinning at each other happily when they found they shared homeroom again.
“I just wish Rei was here as well,” Makoto commented on the way to their class. “It doesn’t seem right without her.”
Usagi made a sour face at that. “I’m glad she has to go to that private school! She’s never leave me alone if we were in the same school, let alone the same class!”
The classroom held mostly the same people that the group had been in class with last year and without really looking around, the friends found four desks close together and sat down to wait for the teacher and the rest of the students.
School was pretty much the same as it was the year before, except harder. By the end of the day, both Usagi and Minako were yawning and Makoto looked bored while Ami was worried about not having studied enough over the summer again. The four walked over to T/A private school for girls, the Catholic school where Rei went.
A couple minutes later the bells chimed and Rei came out with another girl next to her talking happily. Seeing her friends Rei and the girl, whose hair color matched Rei's own, but was worn in a high ponytail, came over. Usagi decided the two could easily have been twin sisters except that Rei's eyes were purple and this new girl was graced with soft green.
“Hey everyone!” Rei greeted them. “This is my new friend, Clarissa! She is in all my classes and she’s really nice!”
Clarissa was a slim girl, shy and curious looking. Her skin was pale and she looked good in black jeans and a black t-shirt, having not yet received her school uniform.
The introductions flew around as everybody introduced themselves at once, causing Clarissa to laugh with surprise. “I can’t remember all those names!” She cried helplessly. The girls laughed and said their names slower.
“So where are you from Clarissa?” Minako asked her curiously when the names had been gotten straightened out.
“I’m from America,” Clarissa said. “My adopted brothers and myself just transferred here. They are in college and wanted to go here for special courses. I’m pretty nervous about being in the city where the Sailor Senshi were seen for so long though!” She looked more excited then nervous which caused everyone to giggle.
“It’s not so bad!” A voice said from behind. “You get used to girls running around fighting evil fairly fast.”
“Mamo-chan!” Usagi cried, throwing herself into her boyfriend’s arms.
“Mmmm, you were right Chiba-san,” One of the five guys behind Mamoru said. “Your girlfriend is pretty hot…” Mamoru frowned at that while Usagi blushed.
“Who are your friends Mamoru?” Minako asked, staring dreamily at the guys.
Mamoru chuckled and relaxed. “The annoying one here is Sean-san.” He said, causing the guy with silver streaked blond hair to chuckle. “And the others are Frost-san, Flamme-san, Storm-san and Ange-san.” The others in turn each interested the Senshi. Frost had blue hair, which was too long for the spikes he wore it in and flopped in his eyes. Flamme had long red hair and his eyes were sharp and mysterious looking. Storm was graced with the dubious honor of constantly messy, windblown green hair while Ange looked handsome with his wavy shoulder length blond hair. “They are all freshmen, just transferred her from America and I offered to show them around seeing as how I’ve been to America and all.” The five men all wore black jeans, and each had a t-shirt on matching his hair color, except for Sean whose shirt was black.
Clarissa had stepped forward and embraced each of them guys. “They are also the adopted brothers I was just telling you and your friends about Rei-san!”
Mamoru chuckled. “It’s a small world isn’t it?”
“Wow that’s weird! You’re all dressed almost the same as Clarissa! Do you know her?” Usagi commented looking at everyone curiously. She obviously hadn’t caught the part about them being adopted siblings, having been too busy staring at Mamoru.
Everyone laughed at that and the group of friends, old and new, went off to find something to eat.
That night Usagi was lying on her bed listening to the radio and reading comic books.
“Hehe!! How can anyone be so stupid?” She asked amid laughter, while Luna sat on the end of the bed trying to ignore her. Then the radio station suddenly went static. “Oh no I liked that song!” Usagi grabbed the radio and shook it, trying to get it to work again and almost dropped it when a voice came on and the static disappeared.
“Sailor Moon and Sailor Senshi. We hope you are listening as I suggest you meet us at the radio station. If you don’t want all the employees here to suffer that is. You may have defeated Chaos, but the Opposite Senshi will be your downfall.” The radio returned the static as the message ended.
Usagi stared at the radio wide eyed for a minute, then grabbed her transformation broach and run out the door with Luna hot on her heels, calling the others on her communicator and checked that they were all headed to the radio station as well.
A new enemy, Usagi thought as she ran. The war is starting again, I guess it’s destiny but I wish I could have had my own life for a while. “Moon Eternal Make Up!”
