Review: Blue Sub No. 6

Blue Submarine Number 6, an OVA series based on a manga from the 60's. In the near future, the ice caps have melted and the sea levels risen. The only hope for Earth against the new genetically Engineered creatures (Zonedike), and it is Blue Sub Number 6, a new marine vessel and her crew. A young pilot, Kino Mayumi, latest task it to recruit a former blue sub crew member, Testsu Hayammi, to help against the war with the ZoneDike. Hayammi refuses and the soon meet again on the battlefield, yet oppose each other on the way the enemy should be treated.

The unique animation of this series is that it can seemlisly blend CG and traditional cel Animation together. The CG worlds in this series are detailed and rich. The actual Cel animation is lacking though at parts it can be watchable. The Plot is a tad bit before it's time, since the manga was created back in the 60's. The character designs are also a little bit low. Some anime purists hate the idea of CG in their beloved series, but other praise it as the future of animation. I reccomend this series to everyone, just to get a taste for CG art and the way it was mixed in this series. It is now playing on Cartoon Network, suprisingly it still shows character "female" (we can only guess it's not even human, the humanoid-water dwelling character Muteo) topless, though I believe the unedited version has some language, being at the sea and all. Also there is a tad violence but it is only some explosions.
