Review: Escaflowne: A Girl in Gaia

Do you ever feel alone? Hitomi does, and wants someone to be with her. Suddenly she is wisked away to a strange new world called Gaia. Sound familiar right? The Escaflowne movie is not a rehash of the TV series, but a new twist on old characters. Hitomi must decide whether she can destory or save Gaia. Reminds me of X.

The animation is of what expected of the series, but better. The budget really shows. The movie cuts out the love polygons of the TV show and instead focuses on Van and Hitomi's relationship. The other characters from the show (Dilandau, Allen) are there for cameo appearances only. The music (by Yoko Kanno is some of her best, it really helps set the atmosphere. The movie has some intense violence, but besides that, it isn't that bad. Unlike Hitomi, you won't feel alone with the great plot, music and animation in this movie. The dub should hit theaters Late Fall 2001.
