Review: Rayearth OVA

The Rayearth OVA series consists of three videos,
each dealing with one of the girls getting their powers. The plot
is different than the TV series, Hikaru is about to graduate 8th
grade and doesn't want to leave her friends, Umi and Fuu, behind.
So she makes a wish that they will stay together forever, amking
the tree spirit Mokona come out and give Hikaru magical powers.
But little do they know, that the alternate world, Cephiro, is
about to invade Earth. A rogue mage, Clef trys to warn the girls
about the impending situation, but somehow makes the rest of the
population disappear. What will happen when Cephiro trys to
invade?
The animation in this OVA is far superior to the
TV show, which has "different" animation. It has a
couple of eye-openers. The plot is a little bit confusing at
first, but will, of course, be resolved in the later videos. The
character development is about as good as the TV/Manga series,
but each have their own strengths. I recommend this series to any
Rayearth fan, or someone that wants a diff. twist on the Rayearth
saga. The series contains violence and "transformation"
nudity (such as the Sailor Moon series.)
