Review: Slayers: Dragon Slave

In the Slayers world, there are two different timelines, The TV series deals with Lina's adventures with Gourry, while the Movie and OVA's deal with Lina and Naga (pictured above). This pair of OVA episodes, released by AD Vision, is presented in a more comedic fashion than the TV series. Lina and Naga are traveling partners but also rivals, and they try to make the other unhappy as often as possible. Throughout these adventures they meet a young (weak) man who want's to become a royal guard, while his mom wathces from the shadows to attack any one mean enough to verbally attack her son. They also come across an evil alchemist who wants to make a Chimera out of people.

The animation in this is overall better than the show, but doesn't use the same variety as it's counterpart. The plot is a lot less serious, and the the new (English) voice for Lina, makes her sound 10 years younger. When I questioned people, they preferred this voice, Cynthia Martinez, much better than CPM's choice, Lisa Ortiz. The character development, seems adequate and shows why Lina acts like she does in the television series. Get this tape if you're only really serious about Slayers. It's not a good starting place for the Slayers world. It contains violence and "big/flat" chested jokes.
