Review: A Wind named Amnesia
A Wind Named Amnesia, a very odd title, leaving much up to the viewer, was made in 1993 and released here in the US in 1994. One day a strange wind blows across the Earth and mankind forgets it's memories. Only a young man named Wataru, and the girl Sophia still retain their memories. They meet up after Wataru destroys a mech, and travel together for a while. Wataru is on a journey to find out what civilization has become after the devastation. Will the remnants of people start their own little world, worshiping newly born "gods" or will they become savage?
I am very disappointed with the animation in this movie, being made so recently, but the art in the desolate cities was very nicely done. The plot seems to have an underlying message, but I don't seem to get it. The plot has some nice twists but the end will, as usual, leave you thinking. There is some ok character development, but they don't expand on Sophia and Wataru until to late in the film. This movie contains violence, some nudity and language. I would rate it R, just for complex elements. I would recommend this to someone who seems to be a fan of second wave stuff. But this is not an anime to get someone initiated into the world of anime.
