Arisugawa Juri is the 10th grade treasurer of the Student Council. She is also captain of the fencing team. Actually, Juri is just acting as captain for now, since the real captain is absent because of illness. Juri does not believe in any sort of luck or miracles. She also doesn't believe in religion even though her name is religious. This all started when Juri was younger. She was friends with a girl named Shiori and a certain boy, who Shiori had a crush on. Shiori thought that Juri also liked this boy, but the truth was that Juri really liked her! Shiori "stole" the boy away from Juri, not realizing that her friend's anger came not from the fact that she stole (what Shiori thought) was the object of her affection, but from the fact that Juri could not let her feelings toward Shiori be known. Shiori had told her to "believe in miracles, and they will know your feelings." After Shiori began going out with the boy and then transferred to a different school, Juri became extremely bitter towards anything miraculous. She even duelled Utena because she was so disgusted by the way Utena felt about her prince. She described her bond with the prince of her memories as "kind of like a miracle", and Juri did not like that one little bit. The way she lost the duel was even more miraculous... it is probably one of the most dramatic duels in the series! In the Black Rose Saga, Shiori comes back to Ohtori Academy, creating a few problems between her and Juri. Juri is still tormented by the fact that she loves Shiori but does not have the courage to tell her. The love she has for Shiori is one of the unique things of the series... unlike the love that other characters have for each other, Juri's love is selfless. It's kinda like how Anthy only wishes to please whoever she is engaged to. She doesn't really care whether she ever gets together with Shiori, she only cares that Shiori is happy.
Your name of Juri has given you a desire for self-expression and for positions that allow contact with people, free from the restrictions and monotony into which you are often drawn. Although you desire to be spontaneous and natural, you are often drawn into technical and methodical lines of endeavour and the incidentals of life. You are friendly by nature, but you cannot enjoy complete ease in association because of a difficulty in expressing yourself. While you can be exacting and thorough in whatever you decide to undertake, and desire to keep a well-ordered life with everything in its place, it is not easy for you to maintain the system and order you would like. There is conflict between your desires and your expression which does not allow scope for your capabilities. This lack of fulfilment of your deeper qualities tends to create repression and frustration. You enjoy sweet, rich foods, as well as meat and starches, and any indulgence would create skin disorders or possible intestinal trouble or growths.
-Miki: Juri is my favorite character! One reason is because her Seiyuu is Mitsuishi Kotono, who is just great! The lovely macaroni hair is another reason. She is probably the most beautiful anime character I have ever seen. I also love saying her name; Juri Arisugawa is fun to say!(using the correct Japanese pronounciation that is!!!). The fact that she duels for selfless reasons is kewl. The whole thing with miracles is a great aspect of the show. I too do not believe in miracles. (but unlike Juri, I really mean it)
