Ruka Tsuchiya was the captain of the fencing team. He had to take a leave of absense because he was very sick, and he left Juri in charge. He returns to the Academy and reveals himself as a member of the Student Council. Well, he has a rose signet, but he laughs off the idea of dueling with Utena. Ruka takes back control of the fencing club, pushing a rather displeased Juri out of the way, and also begins a relationship with Shiori, which really pisses Juri off. Juri meets him at a park and tells him to keep his paws off Shiori, but he tells her that he can do whatever he pleases. Later, when Juri catches Shiori and Ruka kissing, Ruka looks straight at her, knowing that it will make her angry. Some people think that he really loved Juri, but had a funny way of showing it, just like everyone else on the show. That night, Shiori goes to meet Ruka, but Touga is there instead, and soon Akio follows and takes both Shiori and Ruka to see the "Ends of the World." The next day, Ruka challanges Utena to a duel and Shiori acts as Ruka's Rose Bride. As soon as the battle starts, however, Ruka refuses to fight, saying that he won't duel with Shiori as his Rose Bride. Shiori protests, and Ruka tells her that he knows her affections lie elsewhere. He isn't a very nice guy, is he? But, unlike most of the other characters, he isn't around long enough to to find out the reasons behind his nastiness. So it's kind of hard to really like him... Soon after this, Ruka publicly dumps Shiori. She is mortified, and Utena and Anthy, who are in the crowd, feel sorry for her. Juri is in the crowd also, but she just walks by, pretending not to notice. They continue to have problems with each other, and later Juri asks Ruka to make friends with Shiori again because she can't stand seeing Shiori so tormented. Ruka refuses, of course, on the grounds that Shiori is a liar, and Juri attacks him. Ruka fends her off and challenges her to a fencing match, saying that if she wins, he will make friends with Shiori again, but if he wins, Juri has to do whatever he wants. Of course, Ruka won, because he talks Juri into battling Utena again for the power of miracles. Well, I'm sure Akio and his car helped a little in that area. Juri loses her locket in the battle and pulls her rose off herself. Ruka just tells her not to worry. The next day, Juri goes to a hospital to visit a girl from the fencing club who has broken her leg. She overhears two nurses discussing a patient who just died. He had gone back to his school to fence, saying that he wanted to give the power of miracles to the one he loved. It had exhaused him, and he had died in the night.
Your name of Ruka indicates you are a very capable, systematic, and thorough person with talents for mechanics, accounting, computers, teaching, law, construction, and similar fields. You plan ahead, giving careful consideration to detail. Because of your efficiency you attract a great deal of responsibility, and you are inclined to worry excessively and become too involved in details out of proportion to their importance. Your over-cautious nature allows many promising opportunities to slip by. -Miki: I don't really like Ruka. He plays around with Juri and pisses her off when he actually loves her. Plus he's only in two episodes and I find it hard to like a minor character.
