2 of a Kind!

by Katrina

Disclaimers: I do not own Gundam Wing or the song "2 of a Kind!" or Rurouni Kenshin, they are all owned by really lucky and cool people who have lots of money, and I asssure you I made no money on this fic so don't sue.

Notes: "//......//"=lyrics

This is a duet by Sagara Sanosuke and Takani Megumi from Rurouni Kenshin. In the lyrics, blue text is what Duo would sing (Megumi’s Part), red is what Heero would sing (Sanosuke’s part), and white would be the part that they sing together.

The song "2 of a Kind!" comes from the anime series called Rurouni Kenshin. When I read the translated lyrics and heard the tune, it immediatly reminded me of Heero and Duo, so that's what this fic is about. I'm going to be using the translation of the song as it was written by Takayama Miyuki. The site that I got these lyrics from was here. I've never seen a songfic go to a song from a totally different series, so maybe this is crossing the line but I think it's a really good song and I like the idea so I wrote it anyway! :P

Warnings: bad words, shounen-ai, Relena bashing, perverted Dorothy.

Rating: PG-13 (like all my other fanfics!)

~commensing fic~

"You haven't had enough?" Duo yelled the question as he shot at the brown haired boy as he jumped up to the torpedo platform. He couldn't believe how determined the japanese youth was. He really must want to die.

//I don't intend to be told by you.//

"It's my mobile suit!" Heero yelled back, slamming his fist into the controls, launching the torpedoes. I must succeed in my mission he thought as the wind blew through his hair.

//I ain't gonna be told by you.//

"What are you doing you fool?!" Duo ran to the edge of the port, watching as Heero fell into the sea. Relena just stared on in disbelief of what she was seeing.

"Mission complete," Heero managed to say before blacking out and hitting the water.

"Noooo!" Duo stared as he saw his mobile suit sink with the one that the other boy had claimed to be his. He was so young, Duo stared down at his floating body and then helped he blonde girl he had been trying to kill get him out of the water and to the hospital.

A day or maybe two later, Duo stood outside the hospital. If this other boy was on a mission like he was, he might need a little help getting out of there. Duo had researched it thoroughly, he knew exactly where Heero was, and had planned their escape down to the very last detail. He smiled and walked into the hospital and strait up to an observation room.

He saw Heero lying there and he saw how wide awake he was, yet he had fooled the computers into thinking he wasn't concious. Duo activated the monitor and watched Heero turn to look at him. The man in the other room who was supposed to be watching Heero was busy talking to an Alliance leader, so he noticed nothing.

//You act all tough, pretending to be bad.//

Heero watched Duo on the monitor, knowing every word he said. Does this guy ever shut up? He'll blow my cover for sure, Heero thought and closed his eyes.

//You're overbearing, brazen.//

The next thing he heard was an explosion and he turned his head to see Duo standing in the midst of debris and a large whole in the wall. Immediatly the alarms went off and Doctors were rushing to the scene. The two pilots ran, and Duo threw a grenade and he and Heero dropped to the floor to protect themselves from the blast. Now there was a nice opening in the side of the hospital for them to escape out of.

So they jumped. And Heero closed his eyes. He figured he would die anyways, and he blacked out. Duo called to him, but Heero didn't hear..the wind rushing past his ears was too loud to hear the American's shouting. But then one of the most peircing voices rang through the air louder than a gunshot.

"HEEEEEEEEEROOOOO!!!!!!!!" It was Relena Darlian. Who else could have screamed for him so loudly? Anyways, the loud noise shocked him out of his unconcious blood-losing state, and he pulled his parachute because he didn't want to see himself die. Duo stared down at him from above.

"It's way to late now!" Duo drifted down slowly on his thermal copter. He watched Heero his the side of the building with a pained lok in his eyes. I know that has to hurt, he thought. Heero rolled down the beach, his body becoming covered in sand. He could barely stand, but he did anyways, aggrevating his injuries. Heero didn't care. Since when could he care about anything but the mission? The mission was everything.

Duo landed a few feet away from him, an angry look in his eyes. He scolded Heero for not being able to kill himself by jumping off a building. Heero was irritated, he didn't like anyone insulting how good he was at anything.

//You say we're 2 of a kind.

But that's why I hate you so desperatley.

I can't just let that go!//

"I'm not asking you to trust me or anything, but right now I'm the only friend you've got pally." Duo propped Heero up to help him walk away from the scene of his attemted suicide. Heero just glared at him the whole way.

//You're Irritating!

To the point I hate you.//

Heero didn't want anything to do with the braided idiot helping him, nothing at all..Whenever Duo tried to start up a conversation, he would remain silent or make a little "hmph" noise.. Duo was a little angry over this, he couldn't stand anti-social people sometimes.

//You're irritating!

You're not going to be cooperative, are you?//

After Duo pulled thier mobile suits up from the ocean, and Heero set his own broken leg (much to Duo's disgust) they took the suits to the hangar Duo was using. After a small argument and a "shut up" from Heero...the computer in Heero's Gundam beeped. He had a mission. "I'll leave first thing in the morning," the stioc pilot mumbled.

"Hey! You can't go anywhere with your machine in this shape!" Duo looked down at him like he was an idiot. Heero just glared up at the braided God of Death.

"It would take a miracle for you, but I can handle it," he said. He almost smiled at the look of frustration on Duo's face.

//Assaulting me with that abusive language.//

"Well excuse me for being a mere mortal!" Duo left Heero's view, feeling a little hurt that Heero didn't trust him and didn't find him even competent, even after Duo had resqued him from the grasp of the enemy. Heero just kept glaring, and thought about how he would go about fixing his mobile suit. An evil idea ran through his head, and his blank expression turned into a malicious smile.

//You're irritating!

Now more than ever.//

Duo stayed up to check on Heero, slightly surprised at the fact that he was still working on his mobile suit. Doesn’t he sleep? Duo thought to himself. He made a comment about Heero’s working and then went to bed. Heero was happy that the braided idiot, in his opinion, was gone. Now he could get down to the dirty work.

The next morning, Duo woke up to the sound of Wing’s engines. Getting dressed and rushing out to see what was going on, he was amazed at how quickly Heero had fixed his mobile suit…that is until he discovered Heero had used the parts from Deathscythe. Seeing Deathscythe dismembered really pissed Duo off, he screamed at Heero from the runway. Heero just smiled as he flew away, happy that he could outsmart the 2nd loudest person he had ever met. (The first was Relena, duh.)

//You’re irritating!

Worrying me like that and such.

It ain’t turning out to be a joke.//

When they met again, Duo was eager to repay Heero for dismembering his beloved mobile suit. However, Heero ended up saving Duo from an OZ model Leo and then flew away again, leaving the American Pilot angry and still vengeful. Duo vowed to find a way to get back at Heero. Somehow.

"Mission accepted." Heero looked at the screen. He had just gotten an order to destroy the OZ officials that were supposed to meet at an Alliance base. He flew off in Wing to steal a Mobile Suit carrier to aide in his mission. When he had suceeded in "aquiring" the carrier, the computer started beeping and saying that a mobile suit was being loaded into the carrier. Grabbing his handgun he ran to the back of the very large airplane. "That suit." He pointed his gun at the cockpit of the Deathscythe. "Duo."

The braided pilot jumped out. "Hey, load yours on too, I’ll come take over the cockpit." Heero looked down at him for a moment.

//We’re like two of the same pole on a magnet.//

"Do what you want." Heero ran off to load up Wing. Duo just smiled up at where Heero had been.

//If you get close to me, I’ll only take off.//

"He remembered my name after all." Duo climbed up to the cockpit of the carrier, and was soon joined by the stoic japanese boy that was on the same mission. They talked briefly about the plans ahead, Heero didn’t think Duo realized how vital the mission was but Duo knew exactly haow important it was. Duo did take his missions seriously, it was just that he liked to keep himself in good spirits, rather than be quiet and serious all the time.

"Then I can go back to space." The American boy’s words echoed through Heero’s brain. He looked over at Duo, who was staring straight ahead, a smile plastered on his face. His eyes began to water for a moment, Duo was the only friend he had known. Could he really call him a friend? No, Heero thought. Things like friendship are meaningless in war, they only get in the way…and yet…

Days later, Heero walked with Duo around the campus of their new school. The mission had been a total failure. Heero hated to admit it, but he had begun to really trust Duo. Duo had shown that he could hold his own in a fight, very well actually. Duo knew his name now, thanks to the Alliance member, Sally Po. He cursed at her in his mind for giving him away. He would have prefered Duo simply calling him "dude" or "kid" or whatever other names he might have wanted to use.

"Heero?" Duo looked over at him, a slightly serious expression on his face.

"What?"

"Why did you just stand there? When all of those Leos were shooting at you?"

"The lasers weren’t strong enough to do any real damage," Heero glared.

Duo shook his head. "Why didn’t you open your parachute when we jumped out the hospital window?"

//It won’t be ok if you end up with broken bones.//

"Do you always ask so many questions about everything?" Heero sat down on a bench, they weren’t far from their next class and they had a few minutes left. Duo sat next to him, and stared.

//That was a sprain!//

"Answer my question, and then I’ll answer yours," he said with a smile.

"Allright. I blacked out. Pain, blood loss, wanting to die. Now answer my question."

"I don’t ask questions about everything Heero," Duo paused and looked out at the ocean. "Just you."

"Why?"

"Because you’re facinating. I’m well aware you don’t like me much Heero, but I like you." Heero looked at him with a strange expression on his face. "Not like that idiot!" Duo laughed. "As a friend." Heero grunted something incoherent. It sounded like "too bad."

"What?" Duo blinked.

Heero cleared his throat and stood. "I said I like you as a friend too Duo." He lied. Then he got up and swiftly walked to class, leaving Duo there. Duo watched him go.

"I know that is not what he said…" Duo smiled to himself. Is it possible he likes me more than that? Duo stood then, wondering and a little bit mad that Heero just got up and left him there, along with his books. Frowning, Duo picked up Heero’s books and took them to their class.

//Hardhead.

You make me want to punish you.

For some reason, you cruelly hurt my feelings…

You’re dangerous//

Duo slammed the books down on Heero’s desk, causing the japanese pilot to jump. "Forget something Heero?" He smirked and took his seat, which was next to Heero’s. Class began. Heero felt the slight blush caused by his earlier statement fade away quickly. How could he have let that slip. Was it how he really felt about Duo? Did he like him better than a friend?

Months later, after many more missions and Heero’s self-detonation, they found themselves going to the same school again. They had been paired up on quite a few of their missions latley, so Duo decided it would be best for them to stay together in case some kind of emergency came up and they needed to be able to find each other. Heero didn’t like that idea of course, in his mind he didn’t need anyone to help with his missions.

Heero didn’t like the affect Duo had on him either, it was so undiciplined. He hated to admit to himself that Duo made him free, made his life that much more fun. So he chose to fight it instead of trying to get closer to Duo, but Duo wouldn’t allow it. At lunch, Heero deathglared at everyone who sat next to him or bumped into him, Duo just smirked at him occasionally. "What?" Heero was glaring at his companion now.

"You’re so cold." Duo’s bright blue-violet eyes looked into his. "Why don’t you try to be nice to the other kids?"

"I don’t want to. I don’t like any of them."

"But I’m one of them, and you like me right?" Duo leaned in closer, causing Heero to back away. He quickly glared to cover up his shocked expression.

//You’re irritating! My quarrel partner.//

"Didn’t I state that earlier?" Duo nodded, but still stared at Heero. He wanted something more than that from him.

//You’re irritating!

I want you to care about me.//

Later, Duo joined Heero in his dorm room to work on homework, to Heero’s surprize and dissaproval. He calmed down though when Duo showed that he brought food. "It’s a peace offering, I don’t want you to kill me for joining you for a little while." Duo smiled. Heero grunted at him and took the bag of potato chips then went back to his laptop. Duo settled on Heero’s bed, intentionally of course, because he was Duo.

//The truth is, I’m just a lonely person.//

Heero glanced over at Duo, noticing where he was. Deciding it wasn’t anything to do with him, he went back to eating and fiddling with the computer.

//You’re irritating!

We’re two different people.//

Duo was slightly dissapointed that Heero wasn’t paying any attention to him. It pissed him off. "Um…Heero, do you think you could help me with this algebra stuff? You pay more attention in clas than I do." Not likeley, Heero thought, it seems all he did was stare at Duo. But nevertheless, he got up from his computer and sat on the bed next to Duo and looked over the problems.

"What are you stuck on?"

"That part there," Duo pointed, looking at Heero’s face as he leaned and their bodies made contact. Heero tried to remain focused on the problem, his eyes and mind wandering. Heero cleared his throat and went back to scrutinizing the paper.

"Well, you have to solve it by subtracting the variables." He stared at Duo, who was scrutinizing him instead of the math problem. "Duo."

"Huh? What? Oh, sorry Heero." Duo snapped out of his current state of checking out the soldier’s body. Heero frowned, but on the inside he was smiling, he had caught Duo. Staring at him? He wondered why, did Duo like him the way he liked Duo? "Would you mind repeating that buddy?" Duo’s glimmering eyes stared into Heero’s.

//You’re irritating!

There’s no reason to play around.//

"I said you have to solve it by subtracting the variables."

"Ohhh…now I see. Thanks Heero." Duo gave Heero a friendly slap on the shoulder and went back to his work. Heero wanted to be close to Duo though, so he layed down next to him on his stomach, looking up at him occasionally. Duo got done with his homework earlier than Heero expected. It was still early evening anyways, so Duo asked Heero out to the movies.

"The movies?" Heero looked at him blankly.

"Yeah, movies, you know…those things that come on the TV during weekends when everyone is bored."

"Oh. What do you mean ‘go’ to the movies, if they’re on TV?" Duo slapped his forehead and looked at the ceiling in disgust.

"You mean to tell me that you’ve never been to a movie theater?" Duo looked at him.

"No. I’ve never been to a movie theater," Heero glared. "I don’t have time for fun." Duo laughed and threw Heero his jacket.

"Come on, we’re going. You don’t know what you’re missing." After this he began dragging a much protesting best friend out the door. Yeah that’s right, even though Heero was still cold towards him, he did feel friendship, even more than friendship towards Duo. Neither of them had too many other friends since they were always moving, so they were each other’s best friend, and had made friends with the other Gundam Pilots.

They took a motorcycle Heero had decided to keep after one of their missions. Heero loved the way Duo clung to him so tightly when they rode. At first he simply thought it was because Duo was so warm and the wind was cold. However, as time passed, Heero discovered that the slightest touch from Duo could make him warm all over. As they pulled up, Heero got a deep feeling of dread.

"Heero! Who would have thought I’d meet you out here?" The blonde girl smiled at him as he walked down the sidewalk with the braided boy.

//Just go away.//

Heero glared. "Hey, it’s that chick," Duo smiled. "Who’s the girl with her?"

"I don’t know," Heero shrugged. Dorothy Catalonia smiled an evil smile at him.

"Ah, forgive me, this is my friend Dorothy Catalonia. Dorothy, this is Heero Yuy." Relena smiled that annoying-ly (is that a word?) sweet smile of hers.

//You’re irritating!

To the point I hate you.//

"It’s a pleasure. I’ve heard so much about you Heero. " She stepped forward and shook his hand, then glanced at Duo. "And who is this?" Heero noticed Relena was frowning and trying (key word: trying) to glare at Duo. He gave her a warning glare and then looked over at Duo.

"That is Duo Maxwell." Heero grunted as Duo came up and put an arm around Heero’s shoulders and smiled brightly at the blonde girl with the freaky eyebrows. Duo shook her hand energetically.

"Me and Heero go to school together." Duo tightened his arm briefly, pulling Heero closer and then released him to flirt with Dorothy and Relena. He just wanted them to be frightened off, but Heero couldn’t help the strange feeling inside of him. It was jealousy. "Well," Duo said suddenly, "if we don’t hurry we’ll be late for our movie. It was nice talking to you girls, bye bye!" He waved and began walking away. Heero followed but then was stopped by a light pull on his arm.

"Oh, what are you going to see Heero?" Relena asked in a sugary tone that made him even more annoyed. Heero looked to Duo in distress. Duo got the idea and came back to take him away from the obsessive girl.

//You’re irritating!

You’re not going to be cooperative, are you?//

"We’re going to see that nw gory bloody war movie, something beautiful young ladies like yourselves shouldn’t be seeing," Duo oozed his charm as he removed Relena’s hand from the japanese soldier. Relena was a little mad at this.

"What makes you think that we couldn’t handle it?!" She raised her voice. She wasn’t about to let him take her Heero from her.

//Assaulting me with that abusive language.//

"Well, if you think that explosions and bloody entrails and gory heads impaled on poles is beautiful, then come see it with us," Duo smiled his lopsided smile and walked off with Heero. Dorothy wanted to see the movie, so she looked at Relena who took off after them. Dorothy smiled.

"Thank God, no more whussy chick flicks." She followed them and they bought their tickets and sat in the theater. Relena sat beside Heero of course, hoping for a kiss or a hand hold during the movie, and Duo sat on the other side of him, Dorothy sat next to Relena. As the movie started, so did the secret war between Relena and Duo. Duo would laugh whenever he saw Relena cringe at the gore, and Relena would lean closer to Heero, trying to get his attention, which pissed him off even more.

//You’re irritating!

Now more than ever.//

Heero really didn’t want to get stuck sitting next to her, and Duo could sense his anger and uneasyness. "I know how to make her stop," he whispered to Heero quietly.

"How?" He glanced at the blueish-purple eyes flickering in the projection light.

"Kiss me."

"What?" Everyone ‘shhhh-ed’ at Heero who stared at Duo in disbelief.

//You’re irritating!

Worrying me like that and such.//

"If she thinks you’re gay, she might leave you alone."

Heero nodded and leaned in to press his lips to Duo’s. The brief touch sent lightning flowing through their bodies. They drew back, looking at each other, wondering if the other had felt the same thing that they had felt. Their faces inched closer and they kissed again, but this time they touched their lips together for a longer moment and then Heero’s lips parted slightly to invite Duo in.

Relena watched them in utter shock, she almost fainted from what she was seeing. Dorothy found the pair much more interesting than the movie, so she hopped into the empty aisle behind them and sat down to eat her popcorn and watch. Duo’s tounge gently slipped into Heero’s mouth, darting this way and that, caressing against the other boy’s. Heero’s body seemed to be on fire. Then came that moment of realization of what was happening and he blushed and pulled away, lowering his eyes.

"Sorry Duo," he whispered. "I think I got carried away." From the row behind them came a soft groan from Dorothy.

"Why did you two have to stop? It was better than the movie." Then came a loud thump as Relena fainted. Duo smiled.

"It was fine Heero, to tell you the truth, I’ve wanted to do that for a long time." The God of Death was now blushing. "But at least we got her off your back right?" Heero leaned forward and gave him a thank you kiss on the lips.

"Thanks Duo." Duo was shocked, Relena was gone so why would Heero kiss him again? "Actually Duo---"

"He’s also wanted you for a long time." Dorothy piped in. "Heh, I can see it in your eyes Heero." She smiled.

"Really?" Duo asked as he himself looked into Heero’s eyes. Heero nodded, not breaking eye contact.

//It ain’t turning out to be a joke.//

They kissed again, this time more eagerly, releasing a little of the penned up passion they had for each other. Dorothy continued to watch, she was just another Hentai/yaoi/yuri fan like many of us fangirls out there after all. Very little of that movie was watched by those three, and Relena had to be carried out and revived by the theatere staff.

~Fin~

How was it? Good I hope, longer than I thought it would be though…-_- Oh well.
