Here's chapter 2. Standard Disclaimers apply (I wish I owned these characters, but I don't. *sniff*) Enjoy, and see you at the bottom! Note: this is about a year later after last chapter. Sorry to skip around like that, but they are memories! What do you expect? --------------------------------------- The sun shone brightly into the apartment window, waking Darien up too early for a Saturday. He sat up in his bed, and rubbed his eyes. Serena was already up, he could hear her making breakfast. He rolled out of bed and groaned. Then he walked slowly to the kitchen. Serena was there, her long blonde hair hanging loose. She was also wearing a long T-shirt, but even though it was too big, you could still see the unmistakable bulge of her stomach, an annoying side effect of being about 9 months pregnant. Serena was too busy scrambling eggs to notice Darien come in, so she jumped when he whispered "Good morning!" in her ear. "Darien! Don't do that! You scared me half to death!" Serena playfully scolded, and tapped him on the shoulder with her spatula. "You know I'm just playing!" Darien laughed. "Why are you up so early?" Serena asked, as Darien sat down at a small table. "The sun woke me up. What about you?" Darien asked back. "Someone kept kicking me." Serena said, grinning as she put the scrambled eggs into a large bow. "Don't blame me!" Darien said. "I didn't say you! She's been kicking since about 4:00, and still is!" Serena said, taking the bowl of eggs and 2 plates and forks to the table. When she stood next to Darien to set things down, he reached out and put his hand on her stomach. Sure enough, he felt a small kick from the child Serena was carrying. Darien removed his hand and put his ear against her instead. Serena smiled at him, and stroked his black hair. "Hey, wake up. Your breakfast is getting cold!" Serena told him, and moved away from his head to sit down. "You know what day it is tomorrow?" Serena asked, batting her eyes at Darien while resting her chin on her hands. "Hmmm. I don't have the slightest idea! Sunday?" Darien said, obviously teasing. "No silly! My birthday!" Serena said with a laugh. Darien leaned across the table and gave her a quick kiss. "That was for a Happy Early Birthday!" "Why, thank you!" Serena said, as she finished the last of her eggs. She then stood up to go get a glass of water. Darien took a bite of his eggs and reached for the newspaper, which was on a nearby counter. He started to open it up to the sports section, when he heard glass shatter. Serena had dropped her glass, and it had shattered on the wooden floor. Fortunately, they were both wearing slippers. Her face had paled a little bit, and her eyes were wide. "What's the matter?" Darien said, starting to get worried. He was going to scold her at first for being so clumsy as to break the glass, but the look on his face made him stop. Before she could answer, Serena began to clutch her stomach and double over. A loud groan escaped from her throat, then the pain passed. Darien was standing next to her, asking what was wrong. "Sh**, Darien, you need to get me to the hospital. That was a contraction!" Serena said in a slightly louder voice, and groaned again. Darien jumped up, knocking his chair over in the process. Serena couldn't help laughing over the way he was knocking over everything in his way. After managing to get dressed, and keep her favorite vase away from Darien-Destructo, they climbed in the car, and another contraction hit her. "Darien! SLOW DOWN! I'm not dying here! Or are you practicing for your next high-speed chase! Never mind! We're here." Serena screamed as they pulled up to the hospital. "See, you just have to trust me, Serena!" Darien said, grinning. "Shut up and get me out of here!" Serena barked. Darien got out of the car and opened her door for her. She climbed out, stood up, and promptly sat back down again. "God, this hurts!" she whispered, and waited for the contraction to pass. "Come here, Serena. If need be, I'll carry you in!" Darien said. Serena tried to stand up again, and put her arm around Darien's shoulder. He supported her for like that, stopping every so often when she winced in pain. It seemed to take forever to get to the doors, but they finally did. Darien pulled open the door, and they stepped into the room. One of the doctors that happened to be in there recognized Darien, and went over to them. "Hey Andrew!" Darien said. "Hey Darien, what's up?" Andrew replied, and glanced at Serena, and realized why they were here. "Stupid question. Wait here, I'll get a wheelchair!" he said and left. Darien sat Serena down on a nearby chair and waited patiently with her. Andrew soon came back with the wheelchair and took Serena to a room. He told a nurse to stay with her when her contractions came. Once Darien tried to leave to get a small snack, but the second he closed the door, Serena let out a loud cry, making him rush back in the room. After that, he sort of dozed off, falling into a deeper and deeper sleep, until he was awakened by Serena gently shaking his shoulder. "Huh, what? Yeah? Why'd you wake me up?" Darien asked. This made Serena whack him on the shoulder, and she said, "The nurse just went to go get Dr. Mizuno. This baby's coming fast!" Darien fully woke up, and grasped her hand. Through her cries of pain in the next hour or so, he continued to hold her hand, and also felt the release of tension in the room when crying broke the air of the room. Dr. Mizuno, known to Serena as Amy , took the bloody baby to be cleaned off. Darien leaned over to Serena, who had dropped her head on to the pillow, and was trying to slow her breathing. He gently kissed her forehead, then her eyelids, and finally her lips. She gently responded, and opened her eyes. "You did it, Serena. I'm proud of you!" Darien whispered, then "I love you." "I love you, too!" Serena whispered back. "Ahem!" Amy said, with a now clean baby in her arms. Darien looked up, and took his daughter in his arms. Almost in awe, he sat back down, just staring at the rosy young life he now held. Serena brought herself up to a sitting position, just to watch them. He took in every detail about his daughter, her small, lightweight body, the way she looked so perfect, yet venerable in his arms, and everything else about her. Then, with a small gasp, he noticed the small fuzz of hair on her small head. It was a pale red, almost pink. Darien could have sworn he'd seen that color before, but couldn't place it until Serena said: "Her hair! It's the same as you're mom's was!" Serena then reached out her arms, to take her daughter. Darien handed her over, and watched as his wife cooed over her. "What are you two going to name her?" Amy asked, still in the room. "Umm," This question had caught both of them off guard. "Well, since your birthday is tomorrow, why don't we name her Serena, and call her Rini for short!" Darien suggested. "I like the name Rini, but I don't want my child named after me!" Serena argued. Darien laughed, and said, "I guess its Rini then! How bout we just say we named her after my mom! Her was Katrina!" As if in approval, Rini let out another loud wail. (AN: I have know idea what is mom is, so let's just say it's Katrina for now.) ----------------------------------------- Darien remembered that it was almost exactly the same way when Seth was born. Serena had woken him up at 3 in the morning, and they were out of the house by 3:05. It was just daybreak when he was born, crying as much as his sister did. Rini was in the hospital's small daycare playing with some of the other kids. Twice they had shared the love and joy of holding a new life that belonged equally to them. Seth had a dark brown fuzz for hair, and eyes like Darien's. Both of them seemed to grow too fast, but a few priceless moments were captured in pictures. One was with Darien holding Seth, who then was about 2 years old. They were both laughing at something, and just before Serena snapped the picture, Rini, who was about 6, jumped onto Darien piggy-back style. They didn't even know she was home until they were almost blinded by the camera's flash. Another picture was of them on a beach. It was the middle of the afternoon, and all of them were enjoying a nap. Darien lay in the middle of the towel, with Serena's head on his bare chest. Seth was asleep, with Serena's arm wrapped around him. By now, he was 3, and Rini, who was laying curled up in her father's arm, was 7. One of Serena's friends had come and taken that picture. (it was umm, *thinking*, Mina who took it.) Even after they woke up, it was still a beautifully lazy day. -------------------------- (time = the same as prologue) Back in his room, Darien woke up to find Rini and Matthew gone. Serena was asleep beside him. He took her hand, and fell back to sleep. -------------------------- Okay, that's chapter 2. Hope you liked! Bye Bye! Dragonfly, aka NeoPrincessMars
