*************************** False Marriage - Prologue By: Lillian sailorlillian@aol.com Rated: G *************************** Prologue How could one letter change a person's life so drastically? I looked at the rechid thing once more; hoping it would incinerate to nothingness with my firey glare. They were kicking me out like some unwanted animal! Sure, my friends tried to help me out. They petitioned me and everything. If I wanted to stay in The Land of Freedom, I had to do something fast. My eyes drifted over to the old yearbook that I had in highschool. Something triggered my brain to open it up. Carefully turning each yellowed page, I stopped when it came upon the one man who owed me big time. Dar or Dr. Darien Shields as he was known by now. One of the richest people in America and still single. Would she take the next step of her brewing plan or would she let the crappy government ship her out to Japan? No Way! Grabbing the nearest telephone by me, I quickly dialed the operator. It was then that I heard the most snobbiest voice in my whole life. "Hello, like, how may I help ya?" Cringing inwardly, I answered the operator, "I need the telephone number of Darien Shields, please." Laughter could be heard through the other line as the operator chortled, "You and all the other girls in the world, hun. See ya!" I held back my frustration as I began to think of other ideas to contact Darien. A huge smile overcame my face as I soon realized how I could find his telephone number. Grabbing the telephone book, I searched through it fervently. Giggling, I dialed the 1 800 number. A masculine voice interrupted my rushing thoughts, "Hello?" "Hi, I'm trying to find a person named Darien Shields." The man on the other line began to whisper to someone close by. After a few minutes of silence, the man came back on the phone. "I'll take the job. Since he's famous, it's gonna cost ya $150." My eyes widened when I heard the amount. Me being a poor college student and working at the local supermarket, I wondered if I should accept. It was that or back to Japan. Believe me, I never wanted to go back there after... "Fine, I'll lower the prince to $90 since there's a 40% chance of finding him." All that I heard from him was 90 bucks so I quickly said yes. I just hope he could find Darien in time before I'm deported. Hanging up the phone, I ran out of my tiny condo and out to the nearby park. A delicious smell of vanilla icecream wafted through my nose, making my stomache grumble for food. Making sure I had enough on me, I ran towards the icecream truck. After staring at nothingness and eating my melted icecream, I decided that I had to think things through. Once she found Darien, what was she to ask him? 'Darien, will you marry me? I know we haven't seen each other in years but you owe me!' Even her mental voice sounded funny. "Serena, I'm so glad I found you!" I turned around to see one of my best friends wearing a blue tank top with matching blue skirt. "Hi Aims. What's up?" Amy smiled and held out her left hand. My jaw dropped once I saw the ring itself. It then hit me. "You're getting married!" Amy winked, "Greg just proposed a second ago and then I... Oh dear!" Looking at her friend, she knew something bad must have happened. Giving a stern look, I ordered her to tell me, "What happened Amy?" Amy could only blush with embarrasment. "I was so excited to tell all of you that I ran out the door without saying yes." My face showed no emotions for a few seconds until I rolled over laughing. "I can not believe you did that Amy!" Amy turned around quickly and began running back to where ever she had come from. Serena sighed whistfully at her friends retreating back. "Will I ever find true love? I always wanted to be a bride but not like this..." Tears slipped down her pale face as she let them roll down to her chin. Her she was, thinking about her supposed marriage and she didn't even know where Darien was or if he WOULD marry her. 'Oh kami sama! Please help me.' The person she least expected to see was standing right in front of her!
