Hi, minna-chan! Well my name is Stefanie and this is my first fanfic. Wait! Don't click back! Everybody's got to start somewhere. I'd like to thank Lianne and Nicole Cherre for their encouraging me to post this story. Thanks to my dad too. He told me to start writing and here I am! Thanks times a million! Any way, this fic takes place right after Rini finds out who all the Scouts are. Yes I am using American dub names. The story may be a little confusing at the beginning but read for a few minuets and it'll become clear. Enough chat! On with the story. More notes at the bottom! A *huge* thanks to Lady Spring for her encouragement and very kind words. Not to mention the offer to post on her site! Thanks! DISCLAIMERS: Sailor Moon does not belong to me. It belongs to big, rich, *IMPORTANT* people who could sue the pants off a poor writer like me. Please don't sue me. I'm broke! RATING: PG- very mild violence and mild swearing NOWHERE TO RUN, UNABLE TO HIDE CHAPTER ONE She ran. It was the only thing she could do. The only thing she *knew* to do. The darkness that had consumed her home and her mother was after her. The four guardian warriors, the Sailor Scouts, were protecting the palace and didn't see her run off. They shouted things to one another as they fought. Even as the girl ran away she could hear what they were yelling. "This is no good!" Venus yelled as she desperately tried another attack. She screamed as the attack was blocked, and countered, striking her back. Mars pulled her from the ground, breathing heavily. "We need," she panted, "The Silver Crystal. It's the only thing that can take care of this Nega-Trash!" "No." "What was that Mercury?" Jupiter asked her friend. "What do you mean?" Mercury looked up at the other three scouts and yelled to them, "We need Sailor Moon!" Looking down sadly she whispered, "She-she's the only one who could beat this." The others thought about this but before they could come up with a reply they began to fight again, still not noticing that their charge, their princess had run from them. Tears of fright, sorrow and anger burned the child's eyes as she ran from her home. "It's all my fault!" she sobbed to herself. She fell down and cut her knee, but pulled herself back up only a second later. As she fell she could feel her hair coming out of its 'meatballs', the hairstyle that her mother, too, wore. She could no longer contain the tears and they fell freely from her eyes. The searing pain in her leg was instantly forgotten, as it did not compare to the pain that tore her heart. She turned back to her home, The Crystal Palace, just as four beams of energy erupted from it. One red, one blue, one green, and one yellow. She gasped at the realization of what it was. A shield. A shield that was supposed to protect her. But, the Scouts did not know she was gone. The girl of only five years of age collapsed to her knees on the ground. "This wasn't supposed to happen!" She whispered to herself. An image of her mother being encased in a protective crystal by the four Sailor Scouts dominated her thoughts. Following that one was the one of her father being injured in the monitor room. "Mommy!! Daddy!!" The girl cried out as tears ran unchecked down her dirty, pale face. Another image came. It was that of the four Sailor's fighting to protect their King and Queen. Only now, did what her protectors were shouting become clear in the child's mind. The child's head snapped up. "Sailor Moon..." her voice trailed off. She knew of Sailor Moon, from stories her Daddy had told her at bedtime. But, there was no Sailor Moon in Crystal Tokyo. All the stories of her were form the twentieth century, in Old Tokyo. As for the Silver Crystal, well she had no idea where that was anymore. She unconsciously clutched the Time Key around her neck as she thought out loud. "What if," she wondered, "What if I went back to Old Tokyo and brought Sailor Moon here? Then, she could save Mommy!" Hope flickered in her large, pink eyes for the briefest of moments. "And," she continued excitedly, "the Silver Crystal is sure to be in Old Tokyo, too!" Fierce determination burns where fear once was. Hope is restored to her as she lifts the key into the air. She says to whomever may listen, "I will save my Mommy, and my home. No matter what it takes." With this said a brilliant flash of light consumes the small body of the pink haired child and she is gone. ******************************************************************************** The scene changes and the small girl is in a construction site frantically yelling to another, older girl with blond hair also done up in 'meatballs'. The older one is wearing a short white and blue sailor fuku and her face has an expression of immense pain, but also, fierce determination. Her four friend's, and ally's, look up from their battles with the four Nega-Moon sisters in horror at the site that is displayed before them. The blond is kneeling over the pink haired child, having taken a surprise energy attack for her. She isn't moving and doesn't seem to have the strength to even open her eyes. The child is shrieking to the Sailor Scout who is now nearing unconsciousness. "Sailor Moon?! Can you hear me?! Sailor Moon, are you all right?! Sailor Moon!!" Sailor Moon is about to answer the girl when a masculine voice intervenes. "She will be as soon as she gives up." Looking up, the two see a man with fiery red hair and a black upside-down crescent moon on his forehead floating above them. He continues with a dark and sick sounding sense of humor in his voice. "Face it, you're no match for the power of the Nega-Moon. I've seen the future and you're not in it!" I've seen the future and you're not in it. the future and you're not in it... you're not in it... not in it... Rini screamed herself awake in the bed of her 'cousin' Serena Tusikino, a.k.a., The champion of Love and Justice, Sailor Moon. ******************************************************************************** Fourteen year old Serena Tusikino sat bolt up right in her bed. "What?" she asked groggily as she felt yet another kick. She furrowed her brow. She knew exactly what that kick was. Clenching her teeth, Serena ripped back the covers of her bed. As expected, a little five year-old spore was asleep at the foot of her bed tossing and turning and mumbling in her sleep. Serena was furious at this sight. 'This is what,' she thought to herself, 'the fifth time this week she's come into my bed without asking?!' She glanced around her bedroom, to see if Luna was there, before remembering that she and Artemis were meeting at the Crown Game Center to talk to Central Command. Satisfied that she wouldn't get yelled at by her guardian cat, Serena turned and prepared to let Rini have, for the fifth time in a row. She opened her mouth but closed it when she looked closer at Rini's face. Serena gasped when she saw that even in sleep this child could not rest. Tears were coming down her cheeks and she was calling for her 'Mommy.' She was also promising that she would save her home and get the Silver Crystal. Serena's heart softened as she looked at the young girl's face. Gently, so as not to wake her, Serena lifted Rini off the bed and into her arms. Immediately, she began to calm down, but just as quickly, she began to cry harder. Serena tried whispering comforting words to her, but no avail. Serena was about to wake her up from the nightmare when Rini awoke herself. "NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!" Taken aback at the child's out burst Serena gave a start. But, quickly recovered and began soothing her young charge by stroking her forehead and whispering comforts that she knew would do little good. "Shh. Its OK, Rini. I'm here. Don't cry. Everything will be fine. Rini's crying began to subside as she wrapped her arms around Serena's neck. She buried her face in Serena's shoulder and listened to the words this girl was telling her. When she finally stopped crying she looked up into a pair of big blue eye's filled with concern. Finding her voice Serena talked to Rini. "Are you all right, Rini? Did you have another nightmare?" When the child nodded an affirmative, and Serena held her closer. "You know, Rini," Serena continued, "It always makes me feel better when I talk about my nightmares. Maybe that will help with you, too." Serena said a bit hopefully. 'Maybe the kid will finally come clean with me. Maybe she'll finally tell me who she is.' She looked down at Rini and couldn't help but smile. The kid had grown on her. Although she'd be damned before she'd admit that. She only fought with her mainly to keep up a reputation of hating her. Rini was apart of her life now and she would miss her when she went home. 'If I didn't know better I'd think that Rini was my daughter.' Rini looked up at Serena. 'She sounds so, sincere,' she thought. Rini wanted to tell Serena who she really was, but then she could destroy the future. She then remembered that she still, after almost a week, hadn't told Serena that she knew who she and the other Sailor Scouts were. She also hadn't, and couldn't, tell Serena that *she* was the cause of her nightmares. That she would die young and that the reason she came into her bed every night was just to make sure she was still there. The girl had, even before Rini knew who she was, taken a place in her heart. It often made her wonder how Darien could not love Serena. She was the kindest person in the world in just about everyone's opinion. She had the biggest heart. As big as Rini's Mother's. Because Rini had found out that Serena was Sailor Moon she was, now more than ever, afraid that she might leave her. She knew that she would leave her, although not on purpose. Dying isn't something you do on purpose. Something clicked inside of Serena. A maternal instinct and a memory wrapped in to one. She began to hum a sad and lonesome tune. Her mother, Queen Serenity, had sang this song to her right after her father died. Princess Serenity had woken up crying and her mother had sang her this song to put her back to sleep. She decided for some reason that she had to sing it to Rini. 'I wish I didn't know my future,' she thought as she hummed. 'Because if I didn't I could hope for a daughter just like her. Just like my little Rini.' She almost did a double take. 'MY RINI?! Where did that come from?' She pushed her thoughts aside and began to sing to the child. ROCK ME TO SLEEP (I don't own this either. I don't know who owns it. I know a person who can actually sing and write music wrote this. Don't sue me!) Backward, turn backward o' time in your flight. Made me a child again, just for tonight. Mother, come back from the echo-less shore. Take me again, into your arms as of yore. Kiss from my forehead the furrows of care. Smooth the few silver threads out of my hair. Over my slumber your loving watch keep. Rock me to sleep, Mother, rock me to sleep. Backward, flow backward o' tide of years. I am so weary of toils and of tears. Toils without recompense, tears all in vain. Take them and give me my childhood again. Mother, dear Mother, the years have been long, since I last hushed to your lullaby song. Come from the silence so long and so deep. Rock me to sleep, rock me to sleep. Never hereafter to wake or to weep. Rock me to sleep, Mother, rock me to sleep. Rock me to sleep. Rini fought back tears as Serena finished the song. Her mother used to sing her that song. 'Serena is so much like Mommy. I wish I could know her in the future.' Rini made up her mind. 'If nothing else, Serena deserves to know that I know who she really is.' She considered what may happen if she told too much. 'I won't tell her more and I will keep the future secret like Puu said. But I will try to protect her. That is the duty of a princess.' "Rini?" Serena's voice interrupted her thoughts. "Are you still with me?" Pulling away from Serena she looked straight at her and was surprised to see tears in her eyes as well. 'Why?' Rini wondered. 'Why would that song upset her so?' Rini's voice shook as she spoke. "Serena, I-I want to thank you," she started. Confused, Serena questioned the girl, "Thank me? For what?" Rini looked up, her tear filled looked at Serena lovingly, but it was apparent that sleep was setting in again. "For everything you've done for me. I know I've been a brat, not to mention teasing you is too good an opportunity to pass up, but even on the worst days you would come and save me. And I just want to say, thank you, Sailor Moon." Serena's eyes widened in surprise. "I-I don't know what you're talking about, kid," was what she managed to sputter out. "I mean hey," she began, putting on her best 'ditz' voice. "This is just me, Meatball Head Serena. There-there's no way *I* could be Sailor Moon." She put her hand behind her head as she gave a nervous laugh. Rini smiled sadly as she began succumbing to sleep. "You're a *really* bad actor, Serena. But, I saw you, Amy, Raye, Mina, and Lita transform last week at the Temple. I know all of your identities." Again she smiled, but this time she fell asleep right after she stopped talking. Serena gasped. 'No, no, no, no! Rini can't know! It could put her in *more* danger. She just can't know! But, she did identify all the Scouts. Great Raye'll probably blame *me* for not keeping her in that closet, even though I was with her fighting.' She looked around the room, and then down at Rini. Being mindful of the sleeping child, Serena gently laid her on the bed and then picked up her communicator. Hesitating for a moment on who to call. She finally pressed the 'general alert' button. All the girls' voices responded angrily a few moments later. Raye's came first. "Which ever one of you this is, you had better have a good excuse for waking me up at. *two o'clock*?! Its TWO O'CLOCK! Who is this?" Her other friend's voices agreed and then demanded to know what was going on. Serena inhaled sharply before answering. "I'm really sorry to wake you guys up but-" before she could get any further she was cut off by Raye. "Is there a Nega-Moon attack?" "No." "Are you hurt?" "No." "Is Rini hurt?" "No." Serena began to get frustrated. 'Why doesn't she just shut up and let me explain? It's not like I enjoy being up at two, either.' "Then why the are you waking us up so early?!?!?!?!" Raye exploded into her communicator. Lita's groggy voice came up in Serena's defense, "Calm down, Raye. Give her a chance to explain." "Yeah," came the cheerful and suddenly awake voice of Mina. "I mean, this is Serena we're talking about. She wouldn't be up this early unless it was important. Heck, she's never up before noon anyway. It must be good for her to be up at two o'clock." Mina started laughing as she referred to Serena's sleeping habits. Raye grumbled a response. But did as she was told and shut up. "Enough jokes guys." Serena's voice interrupted the teasing feast. "I'm calling an emergency Scout meeting, pronto." The familiar lilt voice of Amy came through the communicator, "What's wrong, Serena?" "I'll tell you when you get there. Raye's place A.S.A.P." A course of confused agreements came from the girls and the communicator went silent. Serena quickly got dressed and turned to leave. Right before she did she turned to Rini and checked on her. She was sleeping peacefully, and Serena had to smile at her. Planting a quick kiss on the young girls' forehead, Serena turned, jumped out her window and ran down the street. ******************************************************************************** Raye sat down outside her home twisting her shrine robes as she impatiently waited for the others to arrive. Mina came first with two breathless cats coming up right behind her. Amy was next; her face flushed from the way too early in the morning exercise. And then came Lita, who, because of her warrior build, wasn't breathing hard or even breaking a sweat. The girls greeted each other and waited for the arrival of their fearless leader. Raye was first to break the silence. "Ya, think that for once she could be on time. I mean she's the one who called this meeting, right?" She brushed a strand of her raven colored hair from her eyes as she spoke. She looked at the others and asked again, "Well, where is she?!" "Hey, Raye, chill." Lita said with a yawn. "She'll be here soon and then you can start in on her." The girls waited a few more minuets in silence. Amy pulled out a book and caused the others to get sweat drops. "Ames, so you have to study so early in the morning?" Lita asked in almost disbelief. "Yes. We have an algebra test on Wednesday." "Wednesday?" Raye questioned. "It's only Saturday! Very early Saturday!" "I want a perfect score," Amy answered simply. All of the others fell to the ground, cats included. A few more minuets went by and the others recovered, but Serena still wasn't there. Looking to the others, Mina spoke up. "OK, now I'm really worried." The others nodded in agreement. Mina began reaching for her communicator, and just as she did it began going off. ******************************************************************************** Serena ran as fast as she could to the temple. She was running so fast that she didn't notice the figure standing in front of her. She met the barrier head on and crashed to the ground. She didn't need to look up to see *who* it was she had just crashed into. She sighed. Weather or not he loved her, they still had a problem of, literally, running into each other. Ever since the Hypnotica droid incident, Serena had begun to believe the words her EX-boyfriend had said. He had been so cold to her that night, colder than normal. He had crushed a rose and sent the petals into a breeze behind him. A red rose, which had been the symbol of undying love between them. 'Maybe it's best that he doesn't love me any more.' She thought, and then shuddered as she remembered why. 'Rubeus was telling the truth, I see it in the four sisters eyes, and in his eyes as well. I'm not in the future. So it's better this way. Darien can fall in love with someone better then Meatball Head Serena. He can fi-' The sound of Darien's voice brought Serena back to reality. "Serena! What are you doing out here?" She just looked up at him as she pulled herself to her feet, ignoring his offered hand. "Do you know what time it is," he continued in a slightly angry voice. "You should be in bed. It's dangerous out here at night." His anger turned to concern, and he sounded truly concerned for Serena, and the truth is, he was. He still loved her, although he couldn't say it because it would put her life in danger. She gave him a small, yet sad, smile. "I'm Sailor Moon, remember? I can take care of myself. Besides," she continued raising an eyebrow, "What are *you* doing out at this time of night?" Darien wasn't prepared for her to have a good comeback. He couldn't tell her why he was out this time of night. It was that stupid dream. It came to him every night, and had for weeks. He had given up on sleep for this night. Images of the dream flashed through his mind as a reminder to stay away from her. Their wedding day, the kiss and then her death. *Every* night for weeks. He was about to lie to her for the umpteenth time when they both heard a scream. The look in Serena's eyes turned from question to fear and determination as two people ran from an ally way, into the street followed closely by a droid. 'God, what did I do to deserve this?' Darien thought to himself. The answer came to him as he looked over at Serena. 'You fell in love with HER, idiot,' came his inner voices' reply. Darien grinned. 'Yep! Smartest thing I've ever done.' Serena raised her locket above her head and shouted out, "Moon Crystal Power!" As she did this Darien held up a rose and transformed as well. With a sigh Sailor Moon stepped forward and began her traditional battle dialogue. "Hold it. How dare you interrupt people going out for a midnight stroll? I am Sailor Moon, champion of love and justice. On behalf of the moon I will right wrongs and triumph over evil, and that means you." She finished her speech and her posing with a determined look on her face. The droid stepped out of the shadows and the two warriors finally got a good look at it. "Oh, crap," was all Tuxedo Mask could say. Standing before him and Sailor Moon was a nine-foot tall wolf like creature. Its glowing red eyes pierced the blackness of Tokyo's dark night. It was gray and black with sharp fangs and claws that glinted in the moonlight. It growled fiercely at the two warriors. Lightning quick it charged Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask. With reflexes as quick as the monsters Tux grabbed Moon and pulled her out of the line of fire. He threw a rose at the wolfish creature and watched as it created as shield and stopped the rose before it could hit it. "Oh no!" Sailor Moon cried. "What are we gonna do?!" She started to shake uncontrollably. The monster had a shield, which meant that no attacks could get through it. It started to charge again, but this time Moon managed to dodge on her own. "Try your scepter!" Tux called to her from the ground, the place he had landed after the monsters last attack. Moon nodded an affirmative and pulled her scepter from her dimensional pocket. She began her incantation as the wolf prepared another attack. "Moon Scepter Elim-" she was cut off as the wolf slammed into her, pushing her back into a wall, and slashed her with its claws. "NOOOO!!!!!" Tuxedo Mask cried out as he saw his beloved fall, unconscious, to the ground. "Sailor Moon!" He was about to attack when he remembered its shield. 'I have to try any ways.' He threw a rose at its back and to his surprise it struck it. The monster was distracted enough from the rose for Tux to go and rescue Moon from the wolves would be deathblow. He pulled Sailor Moon into the confines of the ally and tried to wake her up to no avail. Laying her on the ground the glitter of a watch-like object caught his eye. He pulled the communicator off her wrist and hit the first button he saw. ******************************************************************************** Mina opened her communicator and listened with shock at what was coming through. It wasn't Serena's voice as they had anticipated. It was Darien's. "Whoever gets this come to First and Main, fast!" "What is it, Darien?" Mina asked very concerned. Darien didn't have a communicator. The only other person who did besides the four girls was Serena. "Nega-Moon attack. Damned thing is strong," he yelled into it. In the background the girls could hear snarling. "Hurry and get here!" With that the communicator went dead. The girls didn't hesitate, as soon as the COM was off they held up their hands. "VENUS STAR POWER!" "MARS STAR POWER!" "JUPITER STAR POWER!" "MERCURY STAR POWER!" The four transformed into the Sailor Scouts and ran to find their leader. Something was seriously wrong if Darien called instead of Serena. But Serena had to be with Darien if he had a communicator. That thought made the girls run faster. ******************************************************************************** After speaking briefly to Mina, Tux turned to see the droid standing next to him. "Hurry and get here!" he finished and turned to face the creature. The droid lunged at Tuxedo Mask with its claws bared and prepared to strike him down... TO BE CONTINUED...
