The avatars are the most beautiful mortal women of their generation, gifted with certain powers related to the gods and goddesses they serve. Five girls were brought to the oracle at Delphi when strange symbols appeared on their foreheads: Rhoswen (Serenity), Mehalia (Mina), Kassia (Rei), Lehana (Lita), and Ayla (Ami). Now, as young women, they have taken up their positions as the avatars of Artemis, Aphrodite, Zeus, Ares, and Athena.

The lives of the avatars are luxurious and opulent, but they are also empty. Forbidden to love, they have only one another to turn to until they break the one cardinal rule - never, ever fall in love.

Aeolus (Endymion) resides on Aeolia, island of the winds, as their king. His four friends have varying opinions on the avatars...and none of them have ever seen the five women who currently hold those exalted positions.

Boreas (Kunzite), the North Wind, is being pursued by the goddess Aphrodite and spares little thought for mortal women who hold no importance to him - for the moment.

Eurus (Jadeite) East Wind, like his four companions, has heard nothing good of the avatars but takes little time to establish his own opinion; beautiful and cynical, women hold little meaning for him, and he has more of female race throwing themselves at him than he needs.

Notus (Nephrite), the quiet South Wind, brings warmth and harmony to his friend. He says little of his feelings, but he, too, knows nothing about the five women known and beloved throughout Greece and Olympus.

Lastly, the impudent West Wind, Zephyr (Zoisite), has earned his bad boy reputation honestly. Unbeknownst to him, he is about to be betrothed to a beautiful Nereid princess, and the deities hope that this will end his numerous affairs with both immortal and mortals. Zephyr has never met a woman whose mind he cared more for than her body...but all this is about to change.

The prince and his winds meet five lovely young women: Selene, Mina, Rei, Lita, and Ami who hold their interest...but they seem to be nothing more than extraordinarily beautiful mortals. When the avatars and their lovers come face to face on Mount Olympus, all hell breaks loose.

Even when the winds and the avatars resolve their differences, a number of gods, goddesses, and mortals are determined to keep them apart - no matter what it takes. Their tale of doomed love takes this legendary generation of the avatars to the palace on Aeolia, the underwater kngdoms of Poseidon, through the Underworld to the river Lethe...and much, much more.
