Okay, so James (Kojiro) isn't the smartest or the strongest of the Team. Kojiro is probably the lesser intelligent of our Rocket Gang. ^_^ Well... let's just say he uses his common sense a bit less than his associates. The truth is, I think Kojiro is very intelligent, but he lacks the common sense to use his smarts correctly. He's very witty, even if he's not so smart...
You HAVE to love Kojiro's appearance. He's the world's cutest bishounen, I swear! He wears a black turtleneck with a white longsleeved overshirt, and it has a big red R on the front. He wears white pants, and black leather gloves and boots. His eyes are green, and his hair is so cute, it's lavendar! Or lavendar-blue, if you want to argue.
Kojiro comes from a very interesting past. He is from a rich family and a huge house, where he was betrothed by his family to marry Jessiebell (Rumika), an extremely annoying "refined" girl with a southern accent. Rumika constantly tries to change Kojiro, follows him everywhere, and wants him to be a "proper gentleman". Abused by Rumika and his parents, Kojiro ran away from this wealthy life. His loyal Pokémon, Growlie (Flame), came along with him. Kojiro faints from hunger and cold along the way, and sees some angels in the clouds (yes, angels.) Whatever happened after that is left a mystery. My theory is that James was found by the Bridge Bike Gang, but for some reason Flame ended up back at the manor.
Kojiro tends to crossdress a lot! Whether it's because the plan calls for it, or because he wants to, he does it at LEAST once a week in episodes. ^_^ It doesn't happen so much in the earliest Pokémon episodes, but when you get the the St Anne eps it REALLY starts up! Once it gets to the point where Kojiro wears a body suit with a chest to get into a swimsuit competition! (This epsisode, Holiday at Acupulco, which was recently shown in the US....but the bathing suit thing was cut out. -.-; Prudish Americans...)
Anyway, onto a lighter subject. Kojiro is a decent Pokémon trainer, though I don't think he's as good as Jessie (Musashi). His favorite Pokémon is Growlithe. ^_^ He owns Dogase, which he got for Christmas one year, and it evolved into Matadogas. He also owns a Weepinbell, which evolved into Victreebell. Victreebell tries to eat Kojiro's head...several times. ^_^ Oh, yes! He also owns a Growlithe named Flame! It lives at his parent's house, though, protecting them. In my opinion...Kojiro should have taken Flame with him. Flame would be an excellent Pokémon for the team. And...a very good pet for Kojiro and Musashi! ^.~
Kojiro's feelings for Musashi? OBVIOUS!!! Well maybe not so much in the dubbed version, but if you've seen any of the Japanese version, you would know that he is supposed to like her. Well, actually he's in love with her. In "The Ghost of Maiden's Peak," there is a hint of this; as Musashi pulls him up to safety he hopefully says to her "You really do care!" (And sadly is let down as she puts on the act as usual and makes up an excuse). He will always avenge her losses (Like the time she was kicked out of the Pokémon badge test ^.^*.) He also hates it when other men get too interested in her, he either sends them the message to 'Back Off' or just acts really hurt (Doctor Proctor, for example). He especially hates the 14-year-old Mondo (Not in dubbed version, for what reason ^.^?), who is a huge flirt and has a crush on, you guessed it, Musashi.
Basically, James is just a sweetheart who likes his freedom. The honest truth: He and Musashi need each other. They make the *perfect* team.
In Japan, Kojiro is voiced by Shinichirou Miki. In the USA, Kojiro is voiced by Eric Stuart.
