~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Japanese Name: Nyasu (there's a million ways to spell it, I like this one or Nyasuu, you can also use Nyaasu or Nyase)
Pokémon: he is one :)
Likes: Being "top cat", power, money, stealing, charms
Dislikes: Persians, da twerp, losing
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He needs no description, he's a Meowth (Nyasu or Nyase, whichever way you like to spell it)! The only distinctive thing I can think of is that he can stand on two feet for an extended amount of time, unlike most Nyasus.
Anyway, our Nyasu is the only Pokémon, other than the Maiden's Peak Ghastly and Mewtwo, who can speak the human language. At first, Meowth did not know how to speak human. He taught it to himself to impress a female meowth named Meowzie (Madonya--which means Madonna), who later said he was a freak and rejected him. She went off with a Persian and left poor Nyasu alone. After that, Nyasu decided to join Team Rocket, since "Rocket" was the first human word he learned.
Eventually, he meets up with Sakaki, who becomes his master, and is Sakaki's best Pokémon for awhile. Then Sakaki loses interest in our favorite cat, and Nyasu is replaced with a Persian and he is sent with our Rocket Gang.
Despite his past, Nyasu is a very experienced Pokémon, who is pretty strong for someone who never fights. If his physical strength fails him he relies on wit. (such as when fighting Onix, he tosses two buckets of water at the rock Pokémon. ^_^ Takes brains, y'know.) So why hasn't Nyasu evolved? He doesn't want to! How would you feel, always being beaten out by your higher form? Every time something goes wrong in Nyasu's life, it is due to a Persian. He loses the love of his life to a Persian. His master, Sakaki, sends him away and dismisses him as his favorite Pokémon in favor of a Persian. When he falls in love with the Paras trainer...she chooses a Persian to stay with her instead of him! He wants to prove himself just as worthy as a Nyasu, instead of a Persian. That is also why Nyasu doesn't fight often.
Nyasu is not actually the mean grouchy cat he is made out to be. He does care about Kojiro and Musashi, although he fervently denies it. I guess...in a way, he sees himself as the humans' guardian. But, if you say they're his masters you'll be lucky to get away with just a scratch. ^_^ He also denies much connection with other Pokémon, but he does likeTogepi. He took care of Togepi until it hatched; he kept it warm, he took baths with it, he refused to eat Kojiro's scrambled eggs...^_^* He also has a thing for human women! When he first saw Rumika(Kojiro's fiancee) he thought she sounded so, so pretty, and once he fell in love with a beautiful Paras trainer. Strange Pokémon, if you ask me!
Nyasu is one of the strangest characters in Pokémon to psychoanalize. (I know, I've done it.) He pretty much hates himself. He hates who he is, what he is, and what he's become. He tries so hard to dismiss the fact that he's a Pokémon, yet he works his hardest to please his master and become Sakaki's favorite once more. One complicated kitty.
Nyasu's fatal flaw is that he works constantly to be loved and accepted by someone. He sort of gets that with Kojiro and Musashi, as demonstrated in the Hollywood episode, but one would never know with the way they all treat each other most the time. If he concentrates too hard on this goal he could become gullible and be lured into the most obvious scemes, becoming a really big hazard to those around him.
In the Japanese version, Nyasu is voiced by Inuyama Inuko. In the English Version, Nyasu is voiced by Adam Blaustein.
