FAITH

Disclaimer: Gundam Wing is not mine, otherwise I would have sure the show continued after Endless Waltz. The companies could have made tons and tons of more money if they did. Gundam Wing could have been a phenomenon like Pokemon. It's sad, really.

Well, I just felt the need to write another Zechs/Noin story. This is really short, but length isn't what matters in a story. Anyway, I dedicate it to all the loyal Zechs x Noin fans, including me! The story is right after the war is over, and people are putting their lives back together.

-----------

She touched the picture frame with great care. Gently sliding her fingers downwards, they came to rest on the cool glass. She traced his outline lazily, and sighed.

Zechs, I miss you so much. Did you really want to die?

All I ever wanted was to stay by your side.

Noin no longer had the strength left to to cry. Night after night, she huddled under the covers, feeling so alone...so empty. And then the tears fell from her eys, softly onto the pillow that cradled her head, and vanished never leaving a trace of her grief. Noin buried her face in the sheets, waiting for the pain to cease ripping at her. Her heart ached fiercely everytime she began to think about him.

****

Suddenly, a draft of cold air ran across the room. She felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. Noin froze where she was. I closed the window before I went to bed, she thought. Her heart began to pound wildly in her chest. That means...

Her hands gripped the sheets tightly. Oh God, she pleaded. This is not happening. Think Noin! Did you lock the front door?! Did you?!

She felt the blood slowly drain from her face as the floor boards of her room groaned. Every fiber of her being screamed in fear, but Noin did not utter a word. She felt her body tense again as another creak came from across the room.

Someone's here. Here in my bedroom. My gun, where is it? Chaos flew through her head. Noin's human instinct was to run, but her training quicking overrided her basic nature. No, fight. Fight! Wait until they are close enough and attack! Remember you are a soldier. There is nothing you cannot face.

She let her body relax, ears open, mind intently aware. A scraping sound filled the air. There's only one thing that can be moved so easily...the chair. She listened as it was pushed aside. It was blocking someone's path towards the bed.

Noin thought her heart would burst when the side of the bed carefully sank down as someone sat on it. She still did not move, giving no indication that she was aware of the intruder. Noin kept her face half hidden in the pillows.

She involuntary stiffened as something brushed against her cheek. Her breath quickly raced out of her mouth, as it traveled down the side of her face slowly. Something soft, incredibly divine that it awakened a sensational feeling deep within Noin. Only...only Zechs had ever made her feel these things. Noin became disgusted with herself. How? How can you feel these things for...a burglar, or worst...a rapist, a murderer?! She tried desperately to smother the tingling in her chest.

Oh God, no. No! Stop! she screamed silently as the hand began to stroke her hair, the fingers running through the dark strands carefully. She wanted to scream, to vomit. Yet at the same time, she wanted to encourage this feeling, to revel in this comfort...this pleasure. Noin felt so torn inside.

****

The plan of attack flew out of her mind. Fear of this strange presence swelled in the pit of her stomach. She felt a hot breath stain her cheek, as someone leaned closely towards her face. Her muscles clenched in shock when her skin grew hot and moist as lips pressed against her skin. Though the kiss lasted only seconds, Noin's sense of time came to a crawl. It seemed like an eternity before they pulled away from her face.

She couldn't stop her eyes from flying open in response. They met an icy blue gaze that she immediately recognized. "Zechs," Noin breathed, and then she screamed.

****

She pushed him away, and jumped up from the bed, a disbelieving look upon her face. "This isn't happening!" she yelled at him. Yet Zechs was sitting there on her bed, staring at her with a perplexed expression.

"What isn't happening?" he asked.

"You! You're dead!" she began to cry. "You can't be real. You left me." She hastily tried to wipe away her tears. "You left me behind, Zechs," she whispered harshly.

He frowned, and stood up beside her. "I'm not dead." He tilted her chin upwards so she could look into his eyes. "I'm not dead, Noin.," he said softly.

She whimpered and latched onto his chest. Testing him, to see if he really was there, that Zechs wouldn't disappear. He stroked her hair comfortingly, burying his nose in it.

"Thank you," he whispered against her hair, "for caring." Her throat burned with unspoken words, things she wanted so badly to say, but fear and doubt stood between them and her lips. All Noin could do was cry.

****

Reluctantly, she let go of his shirt, and forcefully pushed her body away from his. "Zechs, why? Why did you let me, everyone believe you were dead?"

"Noin, there are some things best left a mystery. I will tell you...some day."

She turned her back to him, not having enough will left to keep the pain from showing on her face. "Zechs, I missed you. It hurt so much when I thought you had died. It was like someone plunged a knife into my heart and twisted back and forth. I guess...I guess this must sound silly to you, but I..." she choked on the words, emotion building up inside her, "I love you."

Silence filled the room. Oh God, she thought, he must not feel the same way. I should have known. "Zechs," she said, turning around, "I'm sorry if......."

Noin came face to face with an empty room.

~~~~~
She sat up in her bed, sweat and tears running together down her face. Noin trembled, as reality slapped her in the face. Hard.
A....dream. It was a dream. She hunched over and covered her face with her hands. It was all a dream. Everything. Zechs...is dead.
She sobbed into her hands. Zechs is gone. The same feeling she had had when he died came back, new and more heart-wrenching.
A breeze fluttered through the open window, blowing the curtains aside as came in. It swept across her body in such a soothing manner that Noin straightened and let her hands drop to the bed. She closed her eyes, and breathed deeply. The wind traveled past her ears, speaking softly to her.
Believe.
She parted her lips slightly, and nodded. Yes...believe. I do believe in Zechs.
Wait for him.
She opened her eyes and stared into the darkness. Forever, she promised.
THE END
This is just an idea of mine that needed to be explored. What did you think?
