Webmaster's note: The MS-09 Dom represents a revolution in mobile suit combat, not meeting its match for the duration of the One Year War. The Dom, being one of the first Zimmad Corporation entries into the mobile suit market (along with the MSM-03 Gogg), was a significant upgrade in size and armor over the MS-06J Zaku II and MS-07B Gouf. Meanwhile, the Dom employed large hoverjet engines mounted in its skirt, leg, and back armor. The thermonuclear powered hoverjets provided an infinite propulsion source, the Dom actually having the ability to slide across the terrain on a cushion of acceleration. These hoverjets gave the Dom a huge speed advantage over "ground pounding" mobile suits. Very late in the war the Federation would produce mobile suits that could mimic the Dom using a huge number of standard rocket thrusters, limiting their supply of fuel and making them extremely expensive. Meanwhile, the Dom was versatile enough to be mass produced, and quickly became the fear of even the best Federation pilots. Early attempts at hunting Doms, such as the RGM-79D, would prove ineffectual except in the hands of an ace. An impressive array of weapons made the Dom an even more frighting foe than one with the advantage of speed alone. The standard armament was a 360mm "Giant" Bazooka, a weapon capable of destroying a GM in one hit, provided good accuracy. And since Doms were limited enough in number that few were in the hands of rookie pilots, accuracy was not a problem. In times of arms shortages the Dom could also equip a 90 or 120mm machinegun, and even a 175mm Magella Top Cannon. Also standard in the Dom was a scattering beam gun mounted in the lower right part of the chest, too weak to do much real damage but capable of blinding enemy cameras for a shoot period of time. Finally, the Dom's heat sword, though not as powerful as a Federation beam saber, was significantly longer than one, giving the Dom a sizable advantage. All in all, the Dom was one of the most revolutionary and effective mobile suits ever created.
