08th MS Team Characters

Here are a few of the major characters you'll see in the 0080.

Al Izuruha
Al is a young boy who lives at Side 6, and like most boys his age, he imagines wars as being glamorous and exciting, and loves anything to do with the military, especially mobile suits. While some of his classmates share a love of mobile suits, others dislike the war going on around them, and Al does not see the true face of war until he meets Bernie, a Zeon pilot downed during a battle inside Al's colony. Al looks up to Bernie almost as a big brother and wants to help Bernie and his unit in their mission, but as the team and then Bernie end up getting killed in front of his eyes, Al realizes the horrorific madness of war.

Lt. Christina "Chris" MacKenzie
Christina, or Chris, is Al's neighbor. Her return from Earth to the colony coincides with the Federation's reception of the NT-1 Alex Gundam, which MacKenzie is the test pilot for. She also meets Bernie and the two become fast friends. The two end up fighting each other and Bernie is killed; ironically, neither of them knew who they were actually fighting.

Corporal Bernard "Bernie" Wiseman
While piloting his Zaku in a battle inside a Side 6 colony, Wiseman was shot down and met Al for the first time. Upon his return to Zeon, he is assigned to the Cyclops team, which needed a replacement for Andy Strauss. Bernie is young and inexperienced, but his "partnership" with Al leads him to the NT-1 Alex Gundam and the subsequent death of the entire Cyclops team in the ensuing battle. He and Al fix up the downed Zaku and Bernie challeges the Gundam to a battle to save the colony, and despite beheading the Gundam, Wiseman's Zaku is destroyed and Bernie dies along with it.
