Singularity Tokyo By Battlekrome Chapter 4 As the night approached preparations for the job were went over, and over. Nene and I had decided while dangerous an air drop would get us in faster than the alternatives. As Nene and I drew near the drop zone. We reviewed the procedure for using the parachutes with the hard suits. This was due to the height we were dropping from. While The Knight Wing were stealthed against most forms of detection it wasn't invisible to the naked eye thus requiring a high drop to the target. "ETA to target, Mackie?" "Two minutes now." "Lets get ready, Nene." "You sure this is gonna work?" "Nene, we've planned this out dozens of different ways. Sure it's going to work." For this job we had decided the usual paint job on Nene's suit to be way to obvious. Thus we had toned it down and added some camouflage abilities to it. When Nene and I had gone over it, Nene had wanted something cool, I on the other hand wanted something that actually camouflaged her. This problem was solved by using some urban camo with dark colors and tiger stripes. So now her suit was a deep red with tigers stripes of green. With a painted black mesh over parts of the suit. "ETA to target thirty seconds. Opening door." "Right, Nene lets get airborne." The door on the left side of the Knight Wing opened. Looking out I saw Mega Tokyo spread out below us. "ETA to target ten seconds, nine seconds, eight seconds, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one!" With that I leapt. Turning as I fell I looked up to see Nene look down once and then leap. We fell for what seemed ages before we could see any significant detail. My altimeter clicked downward as we approached the two thousand foot mark. "Nene, hit your parachute on my mark. MARK." With that said I pulled my own and was jerked upwards. Making sure Nene had pulled her parachute as well, I altered course towards our target. "Now was that hard, Nene?" "Not really." "Good now lets get ready to land. Which landing point should we go for?" "Well number one and two are closest but they have a pair of boomers there. Hrmm." "What's wrong, Nene?" "There aren't any boomers down there that I can pick up." "No boomers?" "Yeah It's like either they aren't there or they've all been turned off." "Know what, Nene?" "What?" "Lets go for Landing point one. Tight beam Mackie and tell him to head back to base and give Priss and Yuri the go ahead." The ground approached swiftly and both Nene and I landed with a thud. Switching to cloaked mode I quickly checked for any spotters or video cameras. Motioning to Nene to follow, We moved to one of many doors we'd have to open. Checking for alarms we found none and in we went. Passing through the building like ghosts, we avoided security camera, sensor and sentry on our way to main computer control room. It was after we had gotten onto the same floor as the control room, that we began to get anxious. No boomers, no security personnel, nothing but automated and easily avoidable sensors and systems. It was when we reached the hallway leading to the control room, that we found the dead boomer. "Oh crap. Nene, any chance there's anyone else who could of done this?" "Well..... No, no one I can think of," She replied. "We then have a compromised situation. I don't think they know we're here but I hope Priss and Yuri make enough racket." "Me too." The control room was empty. What surprised Nene and I was all the computers were busily running and an experiment was in progress according to the readouts. While Nene looked over the readouts. I sat down at one of the spare terminals and began to hack into the system. *** Fifteen minutes later..... "Nene, any luck?" "Not yet." "I'm in!!" I exclaimed. "What we got?" "copying all the data now. Seems they're running something called the Rasmussen Project. Shit!" I typed rapidly and brought up another file. "What?" "It seems Genom has been researching time travel!" "What!" "yeah, the experiment running is a full power test of the device." "full power test?" "As in they're opening a portal in time." "Shit!" "My sentiments exactly." As I copied the project data as fast as I could, Nene went over to the closed blinds on the window on one side of the room and peered through em. Her reaction attracted my attention. "What?" "What does the device look like?" I pulled up a schematic for what the final artist rendition of the thing. Nene looked at it and nodded. "Umm. Aika?" "Yeah?" "That thing is in the next room over." "Oh my," I said. "What?" "Power is at fifty percent and rising, someone is turning that thing on. Also... Oh crap!" "What?" "They're going to use it! Target time is 2025 during the Kanto earthquake." "We've got to stop it!" "That's what I'm doing now, damn it!" "I've been locked out. System's shutting all unnecessary activity. Got the data copied though. We have the entire database on that thing." It was then the alarms cut in. They blared and then a rumble came from elsewhere on the factory grounds. Then over the radio came the words we've been waiting for "Nene, Aika, get the heck out!" "Roger that!" I replied. "Let's get the heck out of here." Suddenly a huge shockwave hit the room knocking both me and Nene down. "What was that?" "Nene, a better question do you really want to know?" "Good point, lets get the heck out of here." As me moved towards the door the blinds exploded inward with a spray of shattered glass. Nene and I moved to look out the former blinds. It looked like two fifteen foot mechanical monsters had decided to have a battle royal in the middle of the place. It was then that Nene softly spoke something. "What?" "That's Sylia!" "Which one?" "The ugly one." "Which one's the ugly one?" Nene pointed to one "That's Sylia." The two mecha were in a slugging match. Each was attempting to knock each other out. The problem was, both were heavily armored to the point that they were almost immune to physical attacks of each others. It was then that the doors on the other side of the room blew in and revealed Yuri and Priss. "Guys time to leave?" "Sylia is fighting some boomer." It was then that the other monsters noticed us. Suddenly all around the main room doors opened to reveal combat boomers. A collective 'oh crap' from the Knight Sabers and the battle was begun. We were out numbered two to one. Those were half-decent odds, but weighing against was that these were probably top of the line combat boomers. Nene and I being wary, we double teamed the first one to get within hand to hand range. It was when none of our weapons did a dent on the bastard that we began to worry. Yuri and Priss had managed to empty their knuckle busters on three of the boomers and killed them. Thus slowly but surely all four of us drew together and began to fight as a group. All while the two main monsters duked it out. We were on the defensive and the boomers knew it. I had been charging a blast for almost an minute and then when Yuri pulled back to dodge one of the boomers sweeping punches I fired. The smoking hole in the boomers chest proved the effectiveness of the weapons. Three blasts later and I was beginning to feel tired. There were only two boomers left fighting us. It was then that a misplaced shot hit something vital. The machine seemed to explode into action. Sparks and arcs of electricity shot across the floor randomly. It was then that the two monsters fell into what must of been the transport platform. With a great thunderclap both of them vanished, and then things went crazy. Arcs of green energy leapt across the room. One struck one of the boomers and after the white light had cleared all that remained of the boomer was it's head. This made us avoid the arcs with greatest of care. It was then that the shockwave hit. All of us were knocked off our feet. It was then that I realized that Nene and Priss were gone! The last boomer toppled over as Yuri finally got inside its guard and ripped it's head off. "Where's Priss and Nene?" "Don't know, you see what happened?" "Nope" It was then that the next shockwave hit and the world went white and then black. Authors note: A cliffhanger!!!
