Bunny smoothed her dress nervously as she walked down the hall to the throne room. She had had to change into something more appropriate for speaking with the king; she must not present herself in fighting garmets. For the occasion she had chosen something simple but presentable: a pale lilac gown with bell sleeves modestly covered her figure. Her golden locks had been left down and almost reached her knees, but curled naturally at the ends. She twisted a stray strand of hair around her finger as she knocked softly on the great double doors of the throne room.

The guards let her in and she walked down the carpet, stopping before the king and queen who sat regally on their thrones. She curtsied politely before addressing them. "You wished to speak to me, your Majesty?"

The king smiled warmly at her. "Ah, Lady Bunny. Yes, I have a.. request to ask of you."

Bunny frowned in confusion. What in the world could he be talking about?

"I understand you protected my daughter in the city the other day in the city," King Apollo continued. "Those criminals are dangerous kidnappers, we have been hunting them for many months. You were very brave to take them on by yourself." He stroked his chin thoughtfully. "We don't know much about you, do we, Lady Bunny? You seem to have memory loss, so we have no way of knowing where you are from; whether you are common or nobel born."

Now Bunny was frightened. Were they going to send her away?

"However, you seem like a loyal girl. You have become very attached to my daughter Melody, haven't you?"

It was all Bunny could do to nod in reply.

"She is very fond of you, and she does not have many friends her age here. You are aware that we are looking for a bodyguard for her?"

Bunny nodded again.

"Preferably a female guard who might befriend the princess. I understand Princess Serenity of the Moon is very good friends with her guards."

Bunny frowned. 'The Moon is inhabited? And who is Princess Serenity?' she thought.

"How would you like to be Princess Melody's guard, Lady Bunny?"

Bunny was shocked, "M-m-me?" she stuttered in suprise.

"Yes. I don't know what kind of training you have had, but you are extremely talented as a warrior. You have already demonstrated your skills as a swordswoman and on a horse. You arrived with a bow and quiver, so I expect you are an accomplished archer. And that armabnd of yours has amazing defensive skills. I also sense a great deal of magic emiting from you; with a bit of training, you could be a successful mage. I can give you a few days to think it over, but I hope you will accept postition as Amelodera's personal bodyguard. I know she is hopeful as well."

Bunny thought for a few moments; 'Angel's bodyguard! That's a huge responsibility, but I think I can manage. And I always feel a need to protect those I love. It's a once in a lifetime oportunity, and I really don't have anywhere to go or anything else to do. It's not like my mother is trying to arrange a marrage for me back home.' (a/n: *cough*cough*) Bunny looked up at the king and gave another curtsy. "I accept," she said simply.

The king looked almost relieved, and he was certainly pleased. "Thank you for accepting. We have been having trouble finding a suitable guard for our daughter, and we were afraid that your appearance was just too good to be true. I will have the princess informed immediatly. You may go." He waved a hand in dismissal.

Bunny had given one last curtsy and turned to leave, when a thought occured to him. "Lady Bunny," he said, after a moment.

She turned, "Yes, your Highness?"

"There will be a ball tonight celebrating the princess's new guard. Be sure you look your finest, as it is in your honor."

"Yes, Sire," she answered, and walked gracefully out the door. As soon as the great doors of the Hall were out of sight, however, she bolted joyfully to her chambers in search of Angel. Instead of finding her princess, she ran into Darien. Literally.

"Oof!" she cried as she collided with his hard figure and was knocked flat.

"Excuse me, Lady Bunny. I was not expecting a tornado to be rounding the corner," he teased.

"Watch what you say to your sister's new guard," she retorted, "I was chosen for a reason, you know."

"Well, pardon me, then, 'Sir' Bunny. Please accept my humblest appoligies," he answered, and turned to make his exit.

Bunny watched him with admiration. 'He's so hansome..' she thought. 'Shut up!' the other part of her mind replied, 'The princess's bodyguard does not moon over her best friend's brother!' Ignoring the raging war between the two parts of her brain, Bunny focused on something else. "Matte, Darien."

He turned, "Yes?"

"What did you mean when you said my heart stopped?"

Darien looked her straight in the eye before turning away, "It's not my place to answer that." he replied coldly, almost with regret. Then he was gone.

Confused, Bunny continued the walk to her chambers, wondering what he had meant. Mabey Angel knew something about it. Before she could speculate further, Angel came barreling out of her room and ran smack into Bunny.

"Oww..that's the second time that's happened in the last five minutes," Bunny groaned, pushing Angel off her.

"Oops, gomen ne!" Angel appoligized hurredly. "Did you talk to daddy? What did he say? I heard there was going to be a party!"

"Slow down! Yes, he asked me if I would be your bodyguard."

"And what did you say?" demanded Angel impatiently.

"I agreed."

"SUTEKI!" yelled Angel.

"Calm down, baka! There's going to be a party tonight because they finally found a guard- they must have been looking for *ages*- and it's already three o'clock so we need to start getting ready. It begins at six."

Angel grinned happily, "OK! Let me get Diana- I'll be right back!" She rushed back into the room from which she had come. She was back moments later with a small pink bundle of fluff in her cupped hands. "It's the kawaii neko we found earlier in the village. I named her Diana," she explained when she saw Bunny's confused expression.

"Oh. Let's go, come on!" Bunny recovered quickly and dragged (a/n: *again*) Angel away to the dressing rooms, ordering some maids to bring dresses and other nessesary objects along the way.

"Bunny! Are you done in there yet?" Angel called as she waited outside the door of Bunny's changing room. She was dressed in a floor length dress of lavendar silk. The highish neckline made it possible for the slashed sleeves that showed her arms but were attached to her wrist at the cuff so as to not get in the way. Her golden locks were left down, reaching her waist, except for the woven crown of hair around her head. A silver chain was draped across her forehead as the trademark of the Earth Princess.

"Coming!" Bunny cried as she opened the door and stepped into the light. The royal blue velet dress reached her ankles, and had two revealing slits up each side, yet did not make her look sluttish. The off-the-shoulder style had long sleeves that widened slightly at the wrist and had a V-cut over the back of the hand. Blond hair was pulled into two large loops that covered her ears before falling down in pigtails. All in all, both girls were easily the most stunning in the whole ball.

"Quick, we're going to be late!" cried Angel as she hitched up her skirts and started down the hall, Bunny close behind. They arrived with just enough time to compose themselves before they were announced.

"The Royal Princess Amelodera of Earth, daughter of King Apollo and Queen Aurora, and her personal guard Lady Bunny!"

Angel walked regally into the Hall, a true princess. Bunny was directly behind her, and she made certain not to hold her head quite as high as Angel's, for though Angel herself would not mind, it was a sign of disrespect to act more confident and important than royalty. They were the last ones to be announced, and the party began quickly after. As tradition directed, Angel took the first dance with her brother, but then quickly wandered off in search of better company. Darien confronted Bunny.

"I would be honored if you would dance with me, Lady Bunny," he said.

"Well, all right, but I really don't know how good I am," she admitted ruefully. Endy simply grinned and swept her onto the dance floor. Bunny discovered that she could dance very well, and Darien was quick to compliment her. However, she quickly began to feel uncomfortable. She wasn't used to so much attention, especially from a man. Besides, Endy was one of her best friends, she told herself, why was she worried? She tried to shake off the feeling, but it wouldn't go away. At the end of the song she excused herself and went in search of Angel, whom she found mopeing in a corner.

"This is boring!" Angel whined. "It's all clasical music and old stuff! Don't they ever play anything interesting? Come on, let's liven this ball up!" she grabbed Bunny's wrist and pulled her onto the stage. After a quick whispered conversation with the conducter, Angel turned to Bunny. "Can you play anything?" she asked.

"Well, I think I can play violin, but my memory honestly is not telling me much," Bunny replied.

Grabing the forementioned instrunment from the nearest unfortunate violin player, Angel thrust it in Bunny's hands and pulled a beautiful silver flute out of seemingly thin air. Bunny stared in awe. "Third-dimentional pocket," Angel explained simply. "'Paddy McCarthy'" she directed the band, naming an instrumental piece by a popular new group called the 3 Lights. This particular song's central instruments were flute and violin. That meant Angel and Bunny. As the band struck up, pleased at the prospect of something new, Bunny listened to the music and was suprised that she recognised it.

'Michi's song...' Memory, memory! She tried to grab it, but all she got was a vision of a violin and the song that was playing now. Sighing agitatedly, Bunny stored the picture away for later and began to play. Suprisingly, she wasn't too bad at the violin, but then a few lessons wouldn't hurt. She decided that she wasn't really cut out to play any instrument and let Angel do the playing. Angel was excellent at the flute; she played beautifully, and never missed a beat or hit a wrong note.

When 'Paddy McCarthy' finished, the band took up another new song, titled 'Dreams': this one had words, and Angel suggested that mabey Bunny could sing it. Skeptical, but eager to please, Bunny complied.

Now here you go again

You say, you want your freedom

Well, who am I to keep you down

It's only right that you should

Play the way you feel it

But listen carefully to the sound

Of your loneliness like a heartbeat

Drives you mad

And the stillness of the memory

Of what you had and what you lost

Yeah, what you had and what you lost

Bunny didn't even notice that the only sound other than her own voice was Angel's flute. All the other instruments had stopped and all people were silent, just listening to her voice, which sounded like a multitude of tinkling glass bells. Her singing was beautiful and crystal clear.

Yeah, thunder only happens when its raining

And players only love you when they're playing

Yeah, women, they will come and they will go

When the rain washes you clean you'll know

You'll know

Now here I go again,

I see, the crystal vision

But I keep my visions to myself

Well, it's only me that wants to

Wrap around your dreams

And have you any dreams you'd like to sell

Dreams of loneliness like a heartbeat

Drives you mad

And the stillness of the memory

Of what you had and what you lost

Yeah, what you had and what you lost

Thunder only happens when its raining

And players only love you when they're playing

Yeah, women, they will come and they will go

When the rain washes you clean you'll know

You'll know

You'll know

You'll know

You'll know

You'll know

When a heartbeat drives you mad

Remember what you had

As she hung on the final note, Bunny dared to open her eyes. The whole room was quiet, all eyes were on her. Suddenly she was scared. Had she been horrible? Was her voice scratchy? Did she get the words wrong? Her fears were washed away with the thunderous applause that followed. Angel leaned over and whispered in her ear: "I think they want an encore."

Bunny grinned. Tonight was going to be fun. She really had a talent for singing.
