HEY MINNA! I decided to post my lame excuse for a fanfiction here because.. um... I think I was on hyper-active-drive when I made the decision. Anyway, enjoy the story, if that's possible, and I promise to have SOMETHING out within a week, whether or not it will be chapter two of this story is another matter altogether. As of now, my list of priorities looks like this:

1) Destiny's Kiss

2) Millenium Sisters: Ivy's Story

3) For Better or For Worse

4) Angel

5) Dead as a Doornail (please don't ask)

6) Forgiving

7) Be Careful What You Wish For

8) everything else; and YES, there is more. I probably have more unfinished

stories going right now than any other author.

Disclaimer: I don't own Sailor Moon- yet! Can anyone give it to me for my birthday?

Author's note: I think this is gonna be a first season romance but it might take a little while to get that far. Have patience, please! Don't leave! This is gonna be good- I hope! Warning: This is one of my darker fanfics. I decided to lay off the comedy for a bit and try something a little more serious. Since this is (not yet, but will be) a first season romance, there is no Minako. Sorry, V-fans! I think that's everything. Enjoy!

For Better or For Worse

Part 1

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

The forest was dark and empty. The silence filled her mind like water seeping through a sponge. The clouds overhead blocked all light from stars and the moon alike. It was cold, and her clothes flapped around her, as if being blown by a breeze, but there was no wind to be felt. She shivered and rubbed her arms. Everything was cold. She couldn't feel anything else. It was like there was nothing else to feel. Slowly, something pricked the edge of her mind. She realized she could feel something else, something just as cold, but in a different way.

The negative energy slid ominously into her mind, seeking to take over. It pried and pushed, forcing its way in. She fumbled in her pocket for her broach, hopping to halt the process if she were transformed.

It wasn't there.

She panicked.

The energy was stronger now, shoving through her memories, exploring every nook and cranny of her mind. It shuffled through her thoughts as though it were playing cards.

She was loosing. She was loosing the battle for control of her mind and her body.

"You are weak," an evil voice hissed quietly in her mind.

"You were always weak. This is how you will die."

Memories came flooding back to her.

<"You're such a klutz. You fail in school, you're late to every

Senshi meeting, and you eat like a pig. How did *you* get chosen to be the leader?"

"Failed any tests lately, Odango Atama?"

"You really should study harder."

"Can't you ever get anywhere on time?"

"I suppose your daily rush to school takes off all the weight you gain from those donuts."

"Detention again?"

"Why can't you be more like Ami?"

"Why can't you be more like Rei?"

"Why can't you be more like Makoto?">

She gasped as, in her mind's eye, she heard everyone yelling at her again. She saw all her failures for the second time. And she felt the negativity expanding inside her brain. She felt death approaching.

"Weak," the voice repeated. "Weakling. This is how you will die. This is how you are dying."

Then darkness took over.

Tsukino Usagi sat bolt upright in her bed, gasping for breath. Reaching under her pillow, she pulled out a small pink compact. Opening it, she stared at the crystal, which glistened in the moonlight that came streaming in her open window. She thought of the dream.

This was the third night it had come, always exactly the same, and she was suffering dreadfully from lack of sleep. Makeup kindly took care of the bags under her eyes, but it couldn't do much in the way of instant rest. She had told no one, not even Luna, about the dream, and did not ever intend to. They wouldn't care anyway.

"It's just a dream," they'd say.

But it wasn't just a dream. Usagi knew better than to think that.
After watching the light of the crystal dance for a while, Usagi finally came to a decision. She knew what she had to do. It wasn't going to be easy, but she had to try. She had no other choice. She had to start tomorrow.

I apologize for such a short chapter. It was meant to be longer, but, um, well, I don't really have an adequate excuse except that this was a good cliffhanger. Please send feedback! I'll accept flames, but I did warn you that this was going to be a dark fanfic. It will get lighter, eventually. But probably not too soon. (Heheh!) Please stick around though. I promise it will get better!
