Chapter 12: Confessions
(Jessie)
James and I walked back into the Mansion hand in hand, followed by the rest of his family. As we entered the Hall, I turned towards him and he was smiling softly at me. I smile back, but now I realise I’ve got to tell James why I did this, for the fact it had absolutely nothing to do with the inheritance, and the reason is because I love him. Hmm, I wonder where Meowth and Victreebel took Jessiebelle? Oh well, I’ll deal with her later.
James’s family lead us into a different room where the reception would take place. We walked up to a desk at the other end of the room where the Marriage Certificates where waiting to be signed. James signed his and moved away so I could sign. Then it hit me. I have to sign in Jessiebelle’s name, but if I sign her name, James will be technically married to her instead of me. Well, I’m just going to have to hope no one notices I’m signing Jessica instead. I sign and walk back and the priest takes the certificate and puts it in a file. Phew.
I turn to James’s Grandma and say in Jessiebelle’s accent:
“If you all don’t mind, I’d like to have a word alone with my husband.”
Husband. That sounded weird. I lead James into a separate room and close the door.
“I hope that is you Jessie otherwise I’ve just signed my life away.”
I smile at him quickly, then look at him sternly.
“How DARE you compare me to that street rat!”
His expression changes to one of pure terror, but then I just burst out laughing. He fell for it.
“Jessie! Don’t do that!” he yells at me.
Still laughing, I manage to choke out a few words.
“Sorry James, I couldn’t resist.”
“Jessie.” He whines.
I cough I little and try to stop laughing. He stands there frowning angrily at me with his arms crossed in front of him.
“That’s not funny Jessie.”
“Are you kidding that was hilarious!”
Maybe that wasn’t quite what I meant to say. He scowled at me.
“You know maybe you shouldn’t have bothered trying to get me out of this. Maybe I should have just married Jessiebelle and be done with it.”
I cannot believe he just said that.
“What?! Well that’s fine with me, I was trying to get you out of marrying her because for some strange reason I thought you didn’t like her.”
“I don’t, no. But isn’t it just a little coincidence that you now own half of the inheritance I get?”
“This has nothing to do with inheritance James, I did this for you.”
“Oh please. All the plans you come up with to rich and this was your one big chance. I bet you didn’t even think about me, you just got Jessiebelle out the way so you could get the money.”
Now he’s crossed the line.
“What is wrong with you James!?” I yell angrily at him, “I don’t care about the money, if your so worried about me having some then you take it all, I’ll just go somewhere else.”
“Well if your gonna be like that you might as well go somewhere else! I didn’t want to get married at all, whether it was to Jessiebelle or you! I don’t care the money either; I just wanted to have a life to live. But thanks to you we’re now stuck together. This is a big enough Mansion why don’t we just stay out of each other way!?”
He wants me to go away? That hurt. He didn’t want to get married at all? Not even to me? Maybe he doesn’t feel the same way I feel about him. I can’t take this; I have to know if he really means what he’s saying.
“Well what about that kiss?! Do you think I kissed you like that because I had to!? I could have just quickly pecked you on the cheek or something but I didn’t! I kissed you like that because…” I paused. I’m I going to tell him?
His expression softens and he looks at me calmly, waiting.
“Because what?” he asks softly.
“Because…because I love you.”
There, I said it. He stood there with the same expression on his face. Maybe I shouldn’t have told him. Maybe I should have just left it. But I have to know how he feels.
“Is it really that hard to believe?” I ask softly.
His expression suddenly changes and he smiles shyly.
“No, it’s just…” he pauses.
“Just what?”
“Just…that was exactly what I was going to say.”
Does that mean he, he loves me? I can’t say anything; I don’t know how to act. I, feel, I feel so happy.
“Is it really that hard to believe?” he copies, smiling.
I grin, and then smile lovingly at him.
“No.”
He walks towards me and takes my hands in his.
“I really am grateful for what you did, and I didn’t mean anything of what I just said.”
“Same here.” I say shyly, “Does that mean you don’t want me to go away?” I ask hopefully.
I can’t believe how I’m feeling. I was so angry with him just now, and now, now I feel so in love with him.
He smiles at me softly and gently strokes my cheek.
“Defiantly not.”
I smile back him.
“You know James, this really does have nothing to do with the inheritance. Just the thought of you marrying that Jessiebelle makes me cringe, I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to tell you it was me instead of…”
“Are you kidding?” he interrupts, “I feel so happy that you did this for me. We’ve been best friends for nearly 10 years now, and it’s strange, even though we’re married, it doesn’t feel any different.”
“I know what you mean.”
We feel into a silence as we looked into each other’s eyes.
“Jessie, how much do you really love me?”
“As much as you love me.”
He blushes slightly.
“That must be a lot then.”
“It is.” I reply.
I slowly lean forward and kiss him gently. Suddenly, something behind us burst’s into tears and we both spin around to see Meowth sitting on top of Victreebel in the corner with a fuming Jessiebelle still tied up in Victreebel’s vines.
“Dat was beautiful.” He sniffs, “I knew it all along. I can’t wait ta see what your family is gonna say when dey find out ya married Jessie instead of dis t’ing ‘ere.” He says, pointing to Jessiebelle, squirming trying to get out of the vines.
“Hey Victreebel!” James exclaims, patting it on its ‘head’. He turns back to me and sighs.
“Well, we’d better go tell everyone.”
“I’m not worried, they can’t do anything now.” I say perfectly calm.
I take his hand and walk out the door into a crowed room.
“Can I have everyone’s attention please?” I shout into the room in my own voice. Everyone stops talking and faces towards us.
“Jessiebelle? What on Earth has happened to your lovely voice?” James’s Grandma asks.
“Absolutely nothing because I’m not Jessiebelle.” Everyone gasps, “In fact, Jessiebelle is tied up in that room by a Victreebel and hasn’t married anyone. I am the one who married James, my name is Jessie and yes I expect you all remember me.”
“YOU!? THAT, THAT STREET RAT?” exclaims James’s Grandma.
“She’s not a street rat!” yells James.
“But, but James she’s poor. Don’t tell me you love her?”
“Yes I do, and now we’re married you can’t do anything about it. Plus there’s no point in saying ‘what about the marriage certificate’ because she signed Jessica, not Jessiebelle, so I am married to Jessie, I love Jessie, and I want to stay with her forever.”
I wiped a tear from my eye. He really does love me.
“So if you don’t mind, this is now my Mansion, my property, so will you all kindly get off it and go back to where you came from.”
Wow. James is standing up for himself.
“James?”
James stood there pointing outside. His Grandma shook her head in disgust.
“Come everyone, we must leave this Mansion.”
“Don’t forget Jessiebelle.” He said. His Grandpa went into the previous room and got Jessiebelle who was fuming with rage.
“HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!” she yells at James.
“Very easily,” James replies, “Bye.” He says, waving as she’s dragged out the door with everyone else.
When the room was empty, James recalled Victreebel back into its Pokčball and Meowth walked out beside us.
“So now what? We’re all rich toge’der, what about Team Rocket?” he asks.
James and I look at each other and I can tell we are thinking the same thing. We walk back out into the Hall to the Video Phone and call the Boss. He appears on the screen and immediately yells at us.
“It’s about time I heard from you three!? Why have I had no pokčmon these last 6 months! If you don’t catch at least one pokčmon by…”
“Boss.” James and I chorus, “Shut up!”
The End (?)
(James)
Jessie and I walked back into the Mansion hand in hand, followed by the rest of my family. As we entered the Hall, she turned towards me and I was smiled softly at her. It has to be Jessie. She smiles back at me. It must be Jessie. Jessiebelle would never smile at me.
My family lead us into a different room where the reception would take place. We walked up to a desk at the other end of the room where the Marriage Certificates where waiting to be signed. I signed mine without hesitation and moved away so Jessie (I hope) could sign. She pauses for a second, then signs, almost as if she was having second thoughts. After she signs, the priest takes the certificate and puts it in a file.
Jessie turns to my Grandmamma and asks:
“If you all don’t mind, I’d like to have a word alone with my husband.”
Husband. That’s true, I am a husband, but to who I’m not entirely sure yet. She leads me into another room and closes the door. Now I’ll find out.
“I hope that is you Jessie otherwise I’ve just signed my life away.” I say, half sarcastically.
She smile at me quickly, then looks at me sternly.
“How DARE you compare me to that street rat!”
No. No, no, no, no, it can’t be, please it can’t be!! Suddenly, she bursts out laughing. I feel a rush of relief run over me, then anger.
“Jessie! Don’t do that!” I yell at her.
She doesn’t stop laughing.
“Sorry James, I couldn’t resist.”
“Jessie.” I know I’m whining, but that really was not funny, “That’s not funny Jessie.”
“Are you kidding that was hilarious!”
Did she just say that? I scowl at her.
“You know maybe you shouldn’t have bothered trying to get me out of this. Maybe I should have just married Jessiebelle and be done with it.”
Well, I’m not sure about that, but right now I’m angry.
“What?! Well that’s fine with me, I was trying to get you out of marrying her because for some strange reason I thought you didn’t like her.”
“I don’t, no.” I reply, still angry, “But isn’t it just a little coincidence that you now own half of the inheritance I get?”
“This has nothing to do with inheritance James, I did this for you.”
“Oh please. All the plans you come up with to rich and this was your one big chance. I bet you didn’t even think about me, you just got Jessiebelle out the way so you could get the money.”
That hit her. But I bet it was true.
“What is wrong with you James!?” she yells angrily at me, “I don’t care about the money, if your so worried about me having some then you take it all, I’ll just go somewhere else.”
She pauses, taking in what I just said. You know, I don’t really mean it. You always say things you don’t mean when your angry, and you always regret it.
“Well what about that kiss?!,” she suddenly blurts out, “Do you think I kissed you like that because I had to!? I could have just quickly pecked you on the cheek or something but I didn’t! I kissed you like that because…” she paused again. Was she going to say what I thought she was going to say?
Suddenly I don’t feel angry.
“Because what?” I asks softly.
“Because…because I love you.”
She, loves me? Me? Loves me? She…WOW!
“Is it really that hard to believe?” she asks softly.
I hadn’t replied, she must think I don’t feel the same way. She wrong. I smile shyly at her
“No, it’s just…” I pause, am I going to tell her?
“Just what?”
“Just…that was exactly what I was going to say.”
She smiles, almost grins, but doesn’t say anything,
“Is it really that hard to believe?” I copy, smiling.
Now she does grin, then smiles lovingly at me
“No.”
I walk towards her and take her hands in mine. This is really happening.
“I really am grateful for what you did, and I didn’t mean anything of what I just said.”
“Same here.” she says shyly, “Does that mean you don’t want me to go away?”
Perish the thought. That’s the last thing I want her to do. I smile at her softly and gently stroke her cheek.
“Defiantly not.”
She smiles back at me.
“You know James, this really does have nothing to do with the inheritance. Just the thought of you marrying that Jessiebelle makes me cringe, I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to tell you it was me instead of…”
“Are you kidding?” I interrupt, I can’t believe she feels guilty, “I feel so happy that you did this for me. We’ve been best friends for nearly 10 years now, and it’s strange, even though we’re married, it doesn’t feel any different.”
It’s true, it doesn’t feel any different.
“I know what you mean.”
We fell into a silence as we looked into each other’s eyes. I have to know how much she really loves me, but I don’t really know how to ask her without it sounding stupid.
“Jessie, how much do you really love me?”
“As much as you love me.”
I blush slightly. I hope she knows how much that means.
“That must be a lot then.”
“It is.”
She slowly leans forward and kisses me gently. This really is a dream come true.
Hey, Victreebel is doing as it’s told. How come it doesn’t listen to me? Oh who cares, he kept Jessiebelle out the way.
“Hey Victreebel!” I exclaim, patting it on its ‘head’. I suddenly realise I now have to face my family. I turn back to Jessie and sigh.
“Well, we’d better go tell everyone.”
“I’m not worried, they can’t do anything now.”
She seems so calm. Well, I’ll be all right whatever happens if I’m with Jessie. She takes my hand and we walk out the door into a crowed room.
“Can I have everyone’s attention please?” Jessie shouts into the room in her own voice, not Jessiebelle’s. Everyone stops talking and faces towards us.
“Jessiebelle? What on Earth has happened to your lovely voice?” My Grandmamma asks.

“YOU!? THAT, THAT STREET RAT?” exclaimed my Grandmamma.
How could she call Jessie a street rat?
“She’s not a street rat!” I shout back at her.
Wow. I really do love her a lot, a lot more than I thought I could.
“So if you don’t mind, this is now my Mansion, my property, so will you all kindly get off it and go back to where you came from.”
I pointed outside and waited for everyone to move. What I’m I doing? This is a strange feeling.
“James?”
I still stood there pointing outside. My Grandmamma shook her head in disgust.
“Come everyone, we must leave this Mansion.”
“Don’t forget Jessiebelle.” I say. My Grandpapa went into the previous room and got Jessiebelle who was fuming with rage.
“HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?!” she yells at me.
“Very easily,” I reply, “Bye.” I say, as I wave to her as she gets dragged out the door with everyone else.
