The Asian American Voter Project will conduct their first annual Summer Youth Political Forums beginning in June. The forums are for youth of Asian or Pacific Islander descent who are interested in being involved in our community. This will be a great opportunity for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors to learn first hand about the political process: how it works, and how it applies to your daily life. The group workshops will focus on a specific area of government and require situation assessments and problem resolutions.
The speakers and facilitators will be made up of leading Asian American political leaders from the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Each participant will have an opportunity to meet and discuss with these leaders the critical issues affecting our community.
These forums will be provided to the participants at no cost. Breakfast, snack and lunch will be provided. We will be accepting no more than 75 participants for each forum. Applicants will be accepted on a first come first served basis. Complete and return the enclosed application.
The forums will be held on Saturdays, from 9:00AM to 3:00PM
First forum: June 28, 2003 applications due: June 16th
Second Forum: July 19, 2003 applications due: July 7th
Third Forum: August 16, 2003 applications due: Aug 4th
Students accepted into the program will receive a certificate of participation. All participants are eligible for a scholarship based on overall assessment including, but not limited to: writing, articulation, and leadership skills. Winners will be chosen from the total attendees of all three forums. First Prize: $2000, Second prize: $1000, Third prize: $500 and three Fourth Prizes: $250 each. Winners will be announced in September.
