Gate Keepers Review

Content
[disc 3] I love this show.

This disc was awesome. It had some good action, mystery, and sweet animation. The first episode introduces us to Fei-ling Fen, a chinese gatekeeper who controls the gate of fire. The enemy at one point gets kinda goofy, with a plane that has teeth.

The next two episodes seem to take a darker turn. We get to see a lot more of what the invaders really are. While there is still a lot we don't know, it shows us that the invaders can be closer than they ever imagined. We also get another gatekeeper to join the team. Megumi, with the gate of protection. She is jealous of Ruriko, and tries to compete with her at school. A lot more goes into this, and I enjoyed the episode a lot. The last episode brings in another new character, but I wouldn't quite say he is friendly. This episode had a lot of good action sequences and also a nice piece of history. Since the story is in 1969, the Shun and Ririko talk about Apollo 11 and you even get to see them land on the moon at the end of the episode. I thought this was the best episode on the disc, and it kinda of ends on a cliffhanger (sorta).

[disc 1-2] I found these episodes to be very entertaining. It had a good mixture of action, comedy and introduced the characters well. After watching it I am definetely going to be picking up the rest of the series. The only thing I have to complain about is that it only comes with 3 episodes per disc, which means a total of 8 discs, 3 episodes each. But the good thing is that they are (or at least the first two discs) loaded with extras. I would still buy this series even without the extras though. It's just so fun to watch. I can't wait to get the next disc. [9.4]

Animation
The animation is very good. It is very sharp and very smooth looking. It sometimes combines 2-D animation and 3-D CG animation and looks really good when mixed together. You have to see it in action, it looks amazing. The images are so clean and sharp, and the colors look really nice. [10.0]

Music
The opening is really upbeat and catchy. While the ending has a slower pace and is nicely done. The background music was good too, no complaints here. [9.0]

Extras
[disc 1]A lot! We get textless opening and ending, which is a big pluss in my book for getting them both on the same disc, and on the first disc. We get special endings, which shows clips from the episode, with the full opening song playing (one per episode). We also get the Japanese commercials (there are four of them). Also, if you pick the title up in time you can get A.E.I.G.I.S. cards for the gate keepers, 1 per disc (except the first one, which comes with a blank one too, I think so you can put your own pic there and write your name on it and stuff).[disc 2] The second disc comes with images of the japanese VHS and DVD covers (they are the same as our covers, so you get a preview of what they will all look like). There is also a ton of line art. 39 pages of it to be exact. We get some more special endings as well.[disc 3] Images of the gatekeeper's ID cards. 30 more pieces of line art and some more special endings. Sweet. [10.0]

Comments
The first two discs are great and the third one is no different. This show also has an amazing dub. Strongly recommended.
