The Second Meeting

Lara came home around three o’clock the next afternoon. She thought about Cell the whole day. She just couldn’t seem to get the previous day out of her mind. Oh! I wish I’d stop thinking about him. Why am I thinking about the guy that wants to destroy Earth? Why? She thought to herself. She went to her bedroom to change into something more comfortable. Sitting on a table in the corner of her room, she noticed the sketchpad that she had drawn Cell in. She picked it up and turned to the page with Cell. She smiled when she saw it. Placing it back on the table, without closing it, Lara searched her closet for her jeans.
After changing, Lara went to the kitchen and searched for something to eat. She made herself a turkey sandwich, and leaned over the sink as she ate it. She starred out the window at the blue sky. Then her mind shifted back to Cell. Oh! Get out! Yesterday was a one-time deal. She began to feel depressed and lonely. She would’ve called one of her friends, but if she told them that she flew with Cell, they’d think she was crazy.
Lara finished her sandwich and decided to take a walk. She grabbed her jacket and left. As she walked up the hill she thought about various things. She tried to think of everything but Cell. Her mind went to that day when she was late for work. Lara worked as a part time assistant at the Capsule Corp. office. She walked through the woods almost tripping over a tree root that stuck out of the ground.
As Lara approached the spot she usually went to, she heard the ocean waves smacking the rocks below the cliff. When she stepped out of the woods she saw a strange shaped shadow on the ground. Looking up she saw what it belonged to. Rather, whom it belonged to. Standing at the edge of the cliff was Cell. She stopped dead in her footsteps. She was almost convinced she was dreaming. I must have fallen asleep at work and this is all a dream. That can’t be Cell standing there…But she was wrong. It wasn’t a dream at all.
Cell turned around and faced her. “I didn’t think you were going to come.”
“You’ve been waiting for me?” Lara was shocked. She didn’t know what to say.
Cell walked over to her and as he did she asked him another question. “Why did you come here?”
“Isn’t it obvious? I came to see you of course.”
Me…she thought. He came to see me…why me? “I don’t understand…why would you even care to come back here?”
Cell gave a half smile. “Two reasons actually. I’m bored out of my mind standing around waiting for my tournament, and two I want to know what that kiss was all about.”
“The kiss? Oh…” Lara tried to think of a good answer. “I…oh I don’t know. It was just a friendly sort of thing I guess.”
“You guess? Well, I suppose that will have to do for an answer.”
Lara looked at a dandy lion on the ground. Looking up she said, “Why did you come here if you’re bored. Wouldn’t you rather blow something up?”
“Who said I wasn’t going to?” Cell gave another one of his grins.
Lara put her hands on her hips. “I don’t believe you. You’re not going to kill me now.”
“How would you know?”
“If you wanted to kill me you would have done it yesterday when you found me drawing you. I know you now, Cell.”
“You do huh? Well, if you’re so smart, then tell me why I came here.”
“You already said to see me. What I want to know is, why me?” Lara was trying to trick Cell into telling her something she hadn’t heard in a long time.
However, Cell was smarter than that. “Nice try, but you’re not going to play with my mind trying to trick me into saying something that’s not true.”
“Who said I was going to trick you. I don’t have to get you to say something to tell me what you’re thinking.”
“Oh you don’t,” Cell said sarcastically. “So, how are you going to do that?”
“I’m not sure if I should tell you.”
“You’re scared.”
“I am not! I’m not scared of you like everyone else is.” Lara could feel butterflies in her stomach. Cell was starting to play with her mind now; and it was working.
Cell let out a quick laugh. “I don’t believe you. Prove that you’re not a coward like every other human there is.”
Lara’s blood began to boil when she heard the word “coward.” “I am not a coward! Stop making fun of me.”
“Well, then prove to me that you’re not a coward.” Lara didn’t answer right away. “I can see that I’m just wasting my time here.” Cell turned and started walking back over to the edge of the cliff.
Lara felt the braveness she had yesterday. She marched over to Cell, stepped up onto the tree stump, (which Cell conveniently stood near), turned his head towards her, and kissed him before he could realize what was happening. Lara held his head in her hands and gave him the longest kiss she had ever given anyone. Cell stood there not moving. He didn’t know what to do at this point. He narrowed his eyes to look at her. Her eyes were shut directly in front of his.
Finally, Lara ran out of breath and broke the kiss. Then she realized what she had just done. I just kissed him…on the lips…what was I thinking?
Cell didn’t know what to think. She kissed me again…every time she does that I feel so weird. He saw that Lara’s face was red with embarrassment.
“I’m so sorry…I don’t know what came over me. You just got me angry and I…”
Cell put his finger over her mouth, telling her not to talk. She looked up at him. His eyes looked into hers. He gently lifted her chin and tucked her hair behind her ears. Then he ran the back of his hand over her cheek.
“Cell…” she began.
“Shhh,” was all Cell said. He looked over her face, running his fingers through her hair, his other hand still holding her chin. Lara relaxed when it sank into her head that he wasn’t going to ever hurt her. She slowly closed her eyes.
Cell smiled. That weird feeling inside him got bigger. He tried to fight it, but finally just gave in. He looked at her closed eyes. Slowly, he leaned down to her, his lips touching hers. Closing his eyes he kissed her just as she had kissed him a few minutes earlier.
The two kissed for what seemed like hours. When Cell stopped the kiss, Lara opened her eyes and looked into his. He smiled at her. I can’t believe this is happening to me, she thought. I’m falling in love with him…
Neither said a word. They just starred at each other for the longest time. As if on cue, they started to kiss again. Only, they both kissed the other this time. As time progressed, the kisses got deeper. Eventually they even started French kissing.
Both were in a bubble; a bubble that nobody could pop. Everything that was going to happen was forgotten. Lara’s lousy day at work didn’t enter her mind once; and Cell completely forgot about his tournament.
